Doesn't Skeets just let the wheels of the plane down?

On first read I wasn't sure what Skeets was doing, but he *is* just lowering the landing gear while Booster tries to slow it down.

COBRAnomicon!

Maybe this would be better in a Mythology Surgery thread, but why is Black Adam tolerated in the DCU? I recognize that, in the context of 52, it's not possible for Superman and Wonder Woman to take him out with extreme prejudice; but over the long haul, how is it that there's never been a concerted effort to either put him out of commission or at least get him to knock it off with the sorta-villain sorta-hero thing?

Couple of other 52 thoughts, sort of muddled because I read #2 and #3 both for the first time last night:

1. It hit me this morning that with Booster's arc, Morrison's sort of reprising the Sheeda: Booster's make-superheroic-hay-out-of-knowledge-of-future-history sure sounds like someone coming from the future to harvest the past to me. I wonder if that was intentional, or if that theme just happens to be a Morrison hangup at the moment.

2. I'd bet American money that there's editorial swimwear (well, editorial lingerie) in the scene where the Question sneaks into Montoya's bedroom. In fact, in at least one of the oblique shots, they forgot to draw lingerie onto Montoya's partner.

They didn't forget. The Question was sniffing the discarded underwear of Montoya's companion. And I wish my grandmother was alive to hear me say that.

I disagree, and started to type out a panel-by-panel defense of my position. And then realized where that defense would stand on the all-time list of Conversations With No Possible Profit. So nevermind.

I wondered about that as well COBRA, because it seemed in at least one frame there were 3 pairs of panties.

damn you DC, look what I have become.

Basically, Black Adam claimed that his mortal form, Theo Adam, had been a corrupting influence on him, but that he was now free of Theo's evil. (Sort of an inverted Kid Miracleman, really).

There was also some deal with a brain tumor, but I'm not sure how that played out.

He sure does rip a lot of people in half, doesn't he? (or drive his fist through their skulls)

and I giggled at the blood facial he gave to Lois in the process...but to be fair, he did the same to himself earlier on.

yes, many pairs of panties in that there bedroom--but I didn't see him actually sniff any. It appeared to me he hid his note in them, and was merely holding them up.

Bless you DC, for stroking the inner-perverts in us your readers!

Interesting that public execution took place over his new embassy. He'll presumably make use of diplomatic imunity but I'm wondering if Booster or Steel or someone will actually step up and try to vindicate that cowboy's death.

Black Adam's all very 'Authority' isn't he? Offensive rather than defensive 'heroics'.
The Booster stuff's so good though - a corporate media/hero done in a pop way, unsaddled by heavy handed satire. It works brilliantly, especially when alligned to the morose clunky Elongated Man scenes.
52 is surprisingly reminiscent of Seven Soldiers. The whole team-who-don't-know they're a team vibe, and the tonal shifts. Whether it's intentional or not it works to the book's general benefit.

Does anyone know which writers are writing which parts?
I remember reading that Grant is in charge of the Steel parts.

There's apparently not a specific division of who's writing what parts. I've seen rough versions of the first five scripts, and so far I'm pretty sure all the Montoya/Question stuff is Rucka, all the Black Adam stuff is Johns, and everything else is up in the air--I think at some point within the first few issues everybody writes a Booster scene. (Also, several of the scripts had parts where one writer would note "hey Geoff/Mark/Grant/Greg, can you fill in some appropriate dialogue/background information here?") All of the interviews I've seen with the writers so far suggest that the writing is VERY collaborative.

In the Dept. of Apologizing for Self-Promo: I've been doing a weekly blog about 52 at http://52-pickup.blogspot.com . Sorry for the autoplug.

Somewhat, but it's almost more accurate to say he's "old school". Much like Hawkman (a character he shares some backstory with), he's from an older time, before such niceties as "trial by jury"

I remember reading that Grant is in charge of the Steel parts.

Really? They haven't been very good. Hence, I had thought GEOFF! JOHNS! was writing that.

I'm enjoying the Booster Gold and mad scientist kidnapping stuff, which is dripping Grant, imo. And the Dibny mystery, Organised People for the Resurrection of the Kryptonian or whatever it is, is likeable enough - I assumed that to be Waid.

It's actually quite nice having a weekly comic with at least a modicum of quality; bit've a weird experience getting the full 22-pager at that release rate. Enjoyable enough, although I felt the latest was a comparative stinker, centring on Steel and Black Adam (who're shaping up to be the worst parts by a distance, thus far) as it did.

52 is surprisingly reminiscent of Seven Soldiers. The whole team-who-don't-know they're a team vibe, and the tonal shifts.

GM pretty much named 52 as picking up the modular story telling techniques he began developing in S7. This time with more people helping out which seems to make hings easier... according to his words on it at Wonder Con.

He also mentioned his regard and excitement for the Will Magnus storyline he's responsible for.

Black Adam's like Kid Miracleman. Evil dark haired superman smashing people's faces, popping out eyeballs, and ripping body parts off.

All the gore is a little bit surprising to be honest. Not that I care, but that dude getting ripped in half was pretty strong for a 'PG' comic.

That's Black Adam's thing now. I think he's ripped people in half or popped their heads off every issue now. It was kinda cool when he popped Psycho Pirate's head in Infinite, but he's been doing it in a comic every week since.

There's a lot of Johnny Bates in Black Adam, and not just because of details of appearance. Interestingly, though, in this case it's his MORTAL half that's evil, or was.

Anyway, at present Adam's not taken an innocent life, which puts him ahead of KM.

Isn't it an odd synchronicity that Civil War #1 and 52 Week 3 both had scenes where spotlight-hungry heroes say a pithy line and then are asked to repeat it for the camera because the sound didn't pick up the first time? (CW #1 Speeball's "And in you're case it's totally true, chuckles!" and Booster's whatever he says in Week 3)

This just in: The new Batwoman, debuting in 52, is a 'wealthy, buxom lipstick lesbian'. And she has a history with Renee Montoya... a sexy history.
Why must the comics industry be constantly chasing the wealthy buxom lipstick lesbian market? Don't they realise men read comics too?

The new Batwoman's really Bruce Wayne, innit? I mean, this is what he's doing during the missing year, gallavantin' around with some fierce falsies and a wig, vamping for the crowds and picking up unsuspecting policewomen? Yes? I mean, we all knew, in the end, that's how Bruce would end up. And by 'we' I mean just Joker, and myself. And possibly Talia and various folks with ill-fitting homemade Robin costumes in the back of their closets.

I feel, if we're intent on seeing the man inside Wonder Woman, they owe us the woman-shell of Batman, the femme facade, if you will, of the Dark Knight Detective.

And if you make Superman a hermaphrodite and electric, they could be the new Doom Patrol. By Grant Morrison and Cameron Stewart.
