I'm in Barnet so this probably isn't of any use but I can probably offer crash space tonight to any Barbeloids that can't get to their actual homes.

TfL say they're starting to re-open mainline stations in London. Not the big ones, though.

Which is exactly what I feel like doing this afternoon... It's fucking surreal...
You think that's bad, I'm feigning interest in an article about golf clothes.

Like Flyboy says if anyone needs a bed...

Thameslink are running emergency trains North and South out of central London so if you live on the fringes and want to get home...

Oh, and I've got space for a few people down Battersea way. Bring a plunger, the lav got clogged this morning.

"Bavarian fire drill. Everyone, out of your cars."

Sheesh, I'm a sick puppy, my immediate thought (as with 9/11) was:

"Bastards. They've gone and changed gear."

Who are "they"?... Al Qaeda, apparently..... BTW, did anyone notice how George Bush still couldn't manage to completely hide that little curl of a smile he always has on the one side of his smug, dumb, fuck-wit face? Cunt.

At least you can divert yourself. I'm interviewing analysts about what's likely to happen next. Frankly, I'm terrified.

I also might be able to provide accommodation for Lithers in need in the west end.

I've probably got crashspace too, but if you can get this far out you're probably okay... PM me if need be, though.

So what do these analysts say? Actually, I don't want to know. I've done zero work today - oh, I took a call about sponsored mugs. The world goes on, I suppose.

Thanks, by the way, for all the good wishes from the non-London Lithers. Would feel more isolated and under siege without you.

*deeply impressed*

My employers have offered to finance all the staff's requirements for getting home or finding a bed for the night - hotel bills, long distance taxis etc. Every now and then my employers really really surprise me.

My place is also open to any of you as always, but as Mr Stoat said we're a bit far out, in any case PM if you need.

Stoatie> I don't think he's in London at the moment and he'd probably be posting if he was, although i'll let you know when Gecko gets here.

Cheers, Yoda... couldn't get in touch what with the mobiles being all fucked and everything.

I've now managed to contact pretty much everyone I have numbers for, with the notable exception of my best mate (who only lives a couple of streets away but whose address I don't remember...)

I'm fairly sure he's totally skint and can't afford to leave the house, but I do have a tendency towards worry...

I'd like to thank all you 'lithers who kept us updated. It helped me keep a grip on what was going on and how bad it was. All my friends have checked in OK, but I won't know about various members of my family until I can call home. Good vibes from me and I hope everyone is OK.

Mine (02) wouldn't send or receive for a bit but seems to be OK now. Sent text messages are getting through but very slowly - an hour delay or more last I checked - and most people's mobiles (all networks) are going straight to voicemail or just make the engaged tone.

Mine's working okay.

The Met have opened an emergency hotline for those concerned for friends and relatives:

From the statement of the group claiming responsibility:

Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

Pfft.

It's fucking surreal...

I have to go home and prepare for a presentation for a bloody job interview tomorrow... Christ... hope it's cancelled.

On a less self-centred note, Barbelith has been thoroughly wonderful today. Cheers all.

Oh yes, and echoing all the thanks for out-of-town 'lithers (and, indeed, the London posse too)... Barbelith has been fucking indispensible today. Especially with the phone troubles.

Speaking of which- mine's been "crashing" a few times today... not quite sure how network problems could affect the actual performance of the machine itself, but now you come to mention it...

Just returned from lunch- all the pubs in soho have been asked to shut by the police- they don't want lots of people drinking all day in central london. CX road is apparently shut- no source just a bloke in the pub.

I'm looking forward to the long walk back to finsbury park a bit later.

God what a horrible day, thanks for all the kind words from you guys

It really doesnt seem to be "burning with fear, terror and panic" at all though, what I'm getting most of all - from pretty much everyone I've spoken to - is some kind of weird residual "spirit of the blitz" type of vibe. London is hard as fuck.
