Whoah, that SO wasn't clear! I can't remember- it was a couple of weeks ago, though. And really shit.

That was way back when, in the gift ideas thread.

i'm sorry the keffiyeh thread was annoying you, haus.
it was kinda annoying me too, but i feel your annoyance is perhpas at my conduct as much as anything else.

i'd have dearly loved it not to be a discussion about the word 'antisemitism', but i guess i should have just left calgodot to himself if i really wanted that to be the case.
maybe in the years to come someone will add something to it that informs us all of the issues around the garment in question, and i'll be all a-happy.
as it is it seems i am destined to be dissapointed.

such is life.

i did learn that i need to read barthes, though.
i'll probably deal with that some day, and perhaps it will all have been for the good.

ps:
if it's gone galactus for you, who's reed?

It was a toss up between this thread and the quote thread, but today I am partly annoyed and partly entertained by this post in the by-now Millennium Dome sized mistake that is the atheist thread in the Temple;

Dude, the sunrise is beautiful. Do. You. See?

It's the spurious use of the doyousee there mostly, which somehow accidentally conveys simultaneous arrogance and error. A thirteen page long inability to grasp your interlocutor's position combined with the faith that that they are both wrong and deluded is not the best foundation for sarcasm IMHO.

yeah that thread stabs me in the eye every time I'm foolish enough to open it.
It's been a while but I believe all the Atheists I enjoy discussing POV with on the board have bailed on that thread anyhow...
It's a holding pen No Exit style now.

Dude, your argument is lame. Do. You. See?

The headshop one (Richard Dawkins) is a bit better. At least it doesn't make me want to weep with pain, much.

Illmatic,

Weeping... you should read Gonfly, Norbok and Witscheem. Your analysis is predictably 'naive', coming as it does from the 'spectacle'. Have a link to something almost totally unrelated. Enjoy it, it's the only link you're getting. It is just as Rosamondo said. I do not need to refute your point, as Inkleparg did it so very well... Maybe then you will understand how you should be weeping.

Stop it! That phrase reminds me of the scene in the movie Red Dragon, where the killer shows slide photos of his victims to the captured yellow press reporter (who is glued to his seat), while saying do.you.see? again and again.

Mistoffeles post in turn reminds me of the classic 1984 Swayze/Sheen US cold war propaganda flick Red Dawn for some reason.
The invading armies planned for everything - except for eight kids called "The Wolverines."

Oh, the Head Shop thread had already annoyed me. In fact, I intend to use it in my defence when I am tried for last week's senseless, brutal and ultimately messy rampage through Wood Green's famous Shopping City with a variety of automatic weaponry.

Oh, didn't realise we weren't actually having a philosophical discussion, rather we were acting as a vent for poison. Oh well, that makes it all okay. It's certainly not trolling in any sense of the term is it? Certainly not wandering in looking for a rumble.

I honestly don't care about the reason. It's no excuse.

Grrr.

i, like you, am flabbergasted at the 'apology makes it all okay' attitude, and the dodgy apology that is being trotted out to do that making. i also feel that posting to the thread will do no good, much as it has done no good before.

i think i said it before.
don't be sorry, just dont do it.

i'm loathe to even engage with it here, as engaging hasnt gone at all well before.

Meh. Take it or leave it, that's what it is. I hardly think I've said 'that makes it OK', only recognised it was wrong and said sorry.

It's all very well saying 'Just don't do it', but sometimes people make mistakes. Then apologise. It's a tried and tested formula.

Sorry if you're still flabbergasted but Barbelith is a message-board, after all.

16:20 / 19.12.06
it's nice that you're sorry i'm flabbergasted.
that sorry thing seems to come awfully easily to you, and i'm not sure what currency it has. you didnt say explicitly that you thought sorry made it all okay, but you apologised in that thread a few times and still continued to... well, there's no need to go on about it.

i'm not saying you don't mean it this time.
it's just i feel you havent meant it before.
you may well mean this one with all your heart.
i'm aware that i a prejudiced against your apologies as a result of my interactions with you so far, and i'll be upfront in saying that it will take more than a post or three to make me change that opinion.

it's a thing.
a thing i'll try and get over, but i wouldnt be surprised if it takes me a while.

you dont have to care, obviously.

This is a really, really minor thing, and I wouldn't normally mention it, but it's happened several times in succession recently, and it's not so much annoying as just not, I think, in line with people's intentions.

The only real reason to say "I am loath to.." rather than "I'd rather not..." is to give an impression of cleverness. If you use the verb (loathe) rather than the adjective (loath or loth), this impression is not given.

%Yeah, it's a pity people expect posters to show a modicum of consideration. After all it's just a message board. Why get bothered about anything anyone posts? It is, after all, just a message board. Anything written on a message board should be taken lightly. In fact I'd say that having any expectation of politeness on something as light and frothy as a message board is nothing more than political correctness gone mad. Message boards should be where everyone can say whatever they like without expectation of censure by anyone about anything.%

To be fair, it is - but only to the ignorant and easily impressed.

i was trying to say exactly what i said, it's just i spell like an impatient chimp using cheap voice recognition software in a wind tunnel.
