Toksik, Firstly, it is not 'baulking' not to wish to discuss it in an irrelevant thread. If you really want to discuss it then find a thread that is relevant, or start one and I'll willingly talk about it with you. Secondly, what I object to is discussing it here, with you as Judge and Jury and being 'interrogated' by you. What makes you suitably qualified?

No, we haven't though, have we? Toksik's issue is not that my choice of words annoyed him, but that he thought I should not use the word 'bitch' as in 'bitch about' if I have previously objected to someone calling a female a 'fucking bitch.' He thinks, I think that it smakes of 'one rule for one' whereas I do not think it does.

I am happy to have this conversation somewhere else. I am not significantly bothered to start it, but I will continue to put my case forward, if asked.

i was curious about your comfort with the phrase in question, but perhaps i've misjudged your level of comfort or the connotations of the phrase.

Actually, both of those threads, and in particular "Seven Soldiers Sucks" contain cases argued and supported with reference to the texts under discussion. Some of the arguments are better and better-supported than others, but to be honest I'll take either over the Swingball brigades pretty much any time.

I'm a little bit barbannoyed that the initial post seemed to disavow all knowledge of the artists involved in the project and did put the blame for all the problems squarely on Morrison, but I'm enjoying the thread itself (although, really, coudln't it have been part of the main thread?) for kicking up some healthy criticism and examination right before the work's final piece comes out. The Comics has been a little slow of late but it's starting to pick up...

I worry that the swingball metaphor dissuades people from expressing delight and having a bit of a gush, and I think Barbelith could do with a bit more of that stuff frankly. I seem to remember Tom used to be rather good at it.

Although, yeah, some people do seem incapable of levelling any criticism at their creative heroes, and it does get a bit… annoying.

Well, the swingball thing for me comes in when people either ignore completely or utterly misread the content of the thread, in order to get in a submission for the role of court poet. There are posts in those threads which barely mention the work and don't reference anything, really, said beforehand. Swingball's not really about people being delighted and having a gush about comics - it's more about people refusing to talk about comics at all.
