Jack and Chad are quite clear on the connection between the post and Hawksmoor the poster, toksy.

Tell you what, I'll move for the deletion of my follow-up question on the possible nature of Jack Hawksmoor the character's short fiction - would that set your mind at ease, toksy?

i wonder...
why are you calling me toksy all of a sudden?
did some mendacious creep suggest that i like it?

delete what you like, dude. you usually do.
i dont need nor desire deltion; all i really want is your assurance that you arent trying to make hawksmoor feel your patented 'please leave the board forever' vibe and to feel that you mean it.

maybe an apology too, if ze wants it.
i dont know if ze does.

Shaftoe:In the same vein, I've moved to delete the three posts starting here.

I'm assuming you're talking about my posts. My use of the phrase "Political correctness gone mad" was intended to have quotation marks round it: I wasn't using the phrase seriously, and never would.

If it wasn't that, and more that the post was off-topic, then fair enough.

No, Legba dude, that link went to a thread-rotting post by 'Tits win' in which he said that Brian Harvey was a 'chav' ("although I wouldn't go as far as to call him a gypsy"). Nina then responded with (I'd say justified) anger, 'Tits Win' then posted a PM Nina had sent him. I moved to delete those posts, but Haus is right, I should have clarified all this so it was clear after deletion.

Re: flux posting in albums of the year-

I don't think 'read my blog' is sufficent answer to why he only wants to post a list- this is a seperate website/ forum- the idea that in this thread we condense stuff down- what is it like, who does it sound like, how does it make you feel? Even a one liner on each of the favourites or a cut n paste from previous writings plus a link to fluxblog would be preferable- The reason i'm a bit annoyed is that other posters have had their posts deleted- i know he was asked by name and writes lots and lots on the subjects- buuuut I'm pretty sure the posters wanted an insight into the why these were on the list without trailing through Google and other websites. It feels a bit lazy and not very forum friendly to me.

Its worth pointing out that where many Barbelith users have their own blogs- many of us don't follow them, read them or even know about them- especially with the 300 odd new posters that have joined in the last six months or so.

toksik, if you didn't have a clear picture on what was going on in that thread why did you feel the need to start throwing out terms like "horrific" and "harrass"? Items in the world continue to exist without constant injections of drama, as will you.

I see Copey's point on this one. A list in a "no list" thread is undesirable, even if the person posting the list has been invited to contribute - Flux had the option of saying, for example, "I'm sorry, I don't really do albums of the year" or "Sorry, I'm a bit busy for this". On the other hand, Flux is a) a highly respected and long-time contributor to the Music forum and b) a leading music blogger. Could we maybe just ask him to change it to a link to his Pazz/Jop list online, to save real estate? However, I don't moderate Music anymore, so that's just my personal opinion.

I really hate that it's one set of rules for one lot of posters, and another set of rules for the rest. Fair enough lots of the one set of posters have history here and are respected, but don't you see how cliquey this attitude makes Barbelith seem? There's got to be a way around this.

We've had to invent a new category since you showed up, 'Tits win'. For the record, I don't think anyone giving Flux a bit of leeway was motivated by his place on Barbelith as much as by his highly prolific writing about music elsewhere.

Still, Haus, fair enough - have done a bit of Googling and tried to fill in the blanks on Flux's behalf.

Well, TW, it's more that people are known and trusted more if they spend more time contributing value to Barbelith. That's pretty much inevitable, and means that people get more leeway one way or the other. It's also a sad truth that people are going to feel that one poster or another contributes more value in their posts, which will be expressed in a number of different ways. Personally, I feel that having Flux post a list in a no-lists thread is unfortunate, although I can see the arguments in favour. If the exception is to be made, the reason for that exception has to be outlined, which it has been. One then agrees or disagrees with that reason, as a moderator or a private citizen.

However, if you are comparing this directly to the deletion of your post in the Head Shop, I suspect that you're likely to find that the level of difference between the situations will make for a largely unhelpful comparison. Since I didn't see the deleted posts, I don't know for certain if this is the case, but it seems the two experiences are quite different.

No not comparing it to that, more the idea that Flux gets an easier ride because he has history here, and other, prolific posters, know him. Just doesn't seem fair, is all. Kind of like an old-boys network thing.

Weeeel, (even speaking as one of the people who DIDN'T approve of Flux posting a list in a no lists thread), the situations are very different in that all Flux did was not follow the rules, or misinterpret them, rather than making comments which (deliberately or not) actively caused offense. It's not just apples and oranges, dude, it's apples and tennis.

I'd say no, probably not. Hawksmoor uses sentence case elsewhere, ergo he knows how not to write in caps lock - he has chosen to do so there and presumably chose to do so for a reason.

A moderation was proposed, which I agreed - on reflection, you're right, I think - in this case emendation is justified for the sheer awfulness, the likelihood that it would lead to threeadrot, and the ptoential lag while we go through the arguments about censorship, OCGM, etc...

Either that or assuming that the combination of tits + spam + Morrison = specific troll = Scorched Earth troll policy.

No point speculating on this evidence. Tom's been informed - he can check IPs and ISPs as usual. Could be an honest mistake, but it looks like a first post, which suggests the suit has changed hands.

Sorry, to err on the side of caution I disagreed GGM's request for a deletion of the opening post in (I assume) the remaining version of that thread. If my assumption's wrong and the deletion was for duplication, then the topic delete will take care of it. But if my assumption is right then I don't see why the post needs deleting.

Either that or assuming that the combination of tits + spam + Morrison = specific troll = Scorched Earth troll policy.

Yeah, although now it's been pointed out that the multi-post was a mistake it looks a lot less that way, so apologies. I think even the name might have less to do with "a breast" than "abreast".
