Why? Threads still get locked and deleted without anyone being identified as a troll or having their suit banned.
I think in an ideal world everyone would just stop engaging with him and would get bored and go away. If we delete the current ones, I expect he’ll just start more, either in the Creation of further afield – he seems remarkably dedicated in his attempts to impress people he professes not to care about.

His latest thing seems to be to post his replies several times. Are there mods around to delete the duplicates?

Yeah, we do it to Morph all the time.

Flowers> Does it matter? I mean, given that *everything* he's posted is currently being considered for deletion or locking, including the threads themselves, wouldn't it just be easier and less time-consuming to let him get on with fucking his own topics up in that way for now? It's not like he's taking a shit in threads that are worth a damn or are likely to remain active for very much longer.

Since we’re waiting for Tom to make an assessment of Hawksmoor, I think we should leave his posts untouched and not delete anything, even for cosmetic purposes. Least of all for cosmetic purposes maybe. Like Randy says, why bother rearranging the deckchairs?

Deleted threads are still accessible via their url, so I don't see that as an issue. Beyond that, I honestly don't see why we shouldn't treat Hawksmoor as a banned poster. Lock and delete those threads and delete anything else he posts. He's gone so far over the line that I don't see how there can be any argument about this.

Assuming someone takes responsibility for cross-linking all Hawksmoor's threads - perhaps starting an index thread here - it'd then be perfectly possible to delete the threads and maintain them as 'ghosts'.

Should we really? The consensus so far seems to be to leave Hawksmoor's nonsense untouched until Tom weighs in.

Why the sudden rush?

I've proposed the deletion for that particular post, it was a bit of a rabid impulse, sorry. (It can always be disagreed.) There's probably enough evidence within the Creation threads to have him banned I think.

Why the sudden rush?

It doesn't seem sudden to me but, to be honest, the point is that we don't need Tom to verify that hate speech is hate speech.

Sometimes we have incidents where out of ignorance, stupidity or whatever someone makes an offensive remark which they then subsequently deny was offensive and take offence themselves at the suggestion that they could have been racist or homophobic or sexist or whatever. These people can exacerbate the situation in their desire to spare their egos. I tend to think that we should give these sorts of people another chance and see how they respond to being reminded of the guidelines here, and to let the emotion from the initial situation calm down. I can see the value of patience in this kind of case.

The situation with Hawksmoor is really nothing like that. He is being deliberately offensive and demonstrates complete disregard for the repeated objections that have been made to him, including reference to board policy. The discussions about whether this is an elaborate joke or whether it is our famous troll seem irrelevant to me. There can't be any doubt that he will be banned and I have no problem in using those tools we do have right now.

I'd seriously recommend *not* initiating a policy of deleting everything he posts as he posts it. Not unless you want to be up until five in the morning doing it. Posting limits aren't that low that he couldn't cause a real headache just by saving copies of anything he posts and reposting as soon as you delete.

Might be worth deleting the whole threads, though.

As you say, available as ghosts, deletion proposed.

I suggested someone put that one comment up for deletion not because it was from Hawksmoor, but because "Jack Fear, fuck you" was not a particularly fruitful contribution to a discussion no matter who said it.

Your post now looks like some kind of weird snark on Stoatie though!

Could someone please delete this post by Hawksmoor? In the context of what occurred in Creation it's hilarious but there's no need for it in the thread in question, completely off-topic and bizarre.

Link

I'll copy it into the Hawksmoor Thread for ref, should any want it preserved.

'salright, I take no offence and am moving to delete my repetition now there's no need for it. (However, would it be rude to ask you to edit your response to it as well, grant, for no other reason than if I come back to that thread in many years' time I may well get really confused?)

Heheh -- I was reading your repetition as a snarky answer. That's funny.

OK, consider it deleted.

Cheers. (For the record, in case anyone's wondering, I repeated grant's question in a Paxman-esque frenzy of vainly attempting to get Hawksmoo back on track. Although on further reflection, the track was doing just fine without him).

Hmmm. I don't think it's a bandwidth issue, the URL doesn't appear to point to an image. Have PMed the tokster.

Should the "Video Games Megaton" thread be moved from Conversation to Games? It's a helluva a little archive of reviews, nostalgia and just overall good game wankery that the forum should have shelved somewhere handy.

Double posted topic on Gene Clark in the music. I had a lot of trouble getting it to post, and received at least three or four error screens before it posted itself twice.

If any other F,TV&T mod is getting the same confusion over Modern Maenad's requests on this post then the answer is to decline them both. It appears to read correctly now but the mod requests are still pending.

Shrug
23:48 / 25.01.06
Ah they were actually my own requests. If you read modern maenad's subsequent post it is just a reiteration of the first with the addition of a "+" instead of a ",". The repetition doesn't seem to add a further element to the post unlike yawn's downthread. I thought it good housekeeping to at least request the modification of the first and then the deletion of the second and I thought it a safe bet that mm wouldn't feel any imposition on her posting style if I did so. Infact I had the suspicion that mm may have only double posted to kindly avoid putting in a moderation request for such a small change.*
But yeah feel free to disagree of course, that's why the vote system is in place. And apologies for any confusion.

*sorry if I'm speaking out of turn or misrepresenting you in anyway maenad.

Olulabelle

But it reads right now. It has the = instead of the +.

Is there more to this than I am seeing? If so, apologies.

23:56 / 25.01.06
Oh frick! I didn't even notice the addition of a "=" on the second iteration. Please disagree, thanks lula.

Today I have learned a lesson.

You have read her double post and see what I was trying to do though, or did I completely stuff it up?
