Maybe it's a post-modern Spear of Longinus. I'm sure it'll come up later on. Quitely doesn't tend to put in random stuff unless Ganesh asks him to.

I'm as excited about this as the next guy, but it seems anything but super compressed. It may be a lot to expect the same info-to page ratio as a Mort Weisinger/Curt Swan book, and I have no doubt we'll be getting great single issue stories full of sci fi goodness, but, but you just don't get as much out of four panels to a page.

I think its going to be interesting what kind of techniques get used to condense these stories into one issue at a time.

well, for one thing they'll be big cosmic self-contained stories, which makes it supercompressed enough. more even if you buy into GM's statement of writing 50 pages of script then cramming the same ammount of action in 22.

in Swan's day there were less pages to be used, but more self-contained stories, with of course some ongoing[s] subplot[s] - like Superman's rushing to avoid death from overtanning in this case.

it'll be great to see Supes solving an übber threat every issue. most of today's writers would take at least 3 issues to have him reach those helionauts...

While I don't think that's untrue, it's a backhanded compliment at best.

for those who buy their comics online, Discount Comic Book Service is offering ASS #1 for US$ 0,75 and US$ 1,49.

They could switch over to TiTS if Heinlein hadn't got there first.

Apparently on the preview at newsarama (the same 8 pages from the WIZARD preview), they've changed the "S" symbol on his chest back to the usual standard one...

hmm, yeah, they did. bleh.

I was marvelling at that 2 page spread with Supes circling the sun that I didn't even notice...

Is it me, or is the coloring darker too?

Are Being Stolen By Bandits
00:11 / 01.10.05
I thought that at first, but looking again, I suspect it's just that the images which were circulating a few weeks ago were amateur scans from the Wizard preview, and the colour reproduction was a bit off. I could be wrong, though.

Colors are also always off at Newsarama. Has to do with the CMYK files just being straight posted up, greens & blues get all out of whack.

I really wish there was a better acronym than ASS.

When there's an "All Star" one convention that has been used before on other boards is 'A*'

so it could be A*S

but then, All Star Squadron is the same too.
Oh well.

In ways, I wish all the All Star books could be acronymed to ASS, just for the arguments about 'Who draws better ASS, Quitely or Lee?' Watch the fanboys threaten to glass each other.

It's just an acronym, guys. Christ on a bike.

DC just announced that Neal Adams will be doing a variant cover for issue 1.

Michelangelo could be doing the variant cover and I'd still pick Quitely's one up.

Incidentally, and not completely off-topic, he's supposed to be signing and sketching at the Glasgow Comic Mart, Henry Wood Hall, Claremont Street on Sunday 27th November. Quitely, that is, not Michelangelo. I'm still weighing up the £115 return air fare so I can get a sketch of Lord Limbo in my Flex hardback...

I really wish there was a better acronym than ASS.

There is NO better acronym than ASS. For anything.

Do you think this "variant cover" thing is in response to criticisms of Frank Quitely's cover which DC fear may put people off buying the comic? (For the record, I love the Quitely picture- and despite what they may say on the JBF, it never once occurred to me that Supes was inviting me to do anything smuttier than look down on his city).

ASS! super-GAY-vision! Skintight Luthor-buttocks! I, for one, am glad DC is getting rid of this filthy, filthy, homosleaze from our shelves one cover at a time. Excelsertron!

Does Millar have a hand in Morrison's ASS?

Just to clarify, when I said that some of my best friends were gay, I wasn't counting Grant Morrison. Not because he is not my best friend - he is - but because he is absolutely, positively not gay. Have you seen his wife? Well I have, and she's real. Not a bloke, not a tranny - Grant doesn't like 'em that much, gentle readers! - just 100% pure prime lady. And if anyone wants to argue, I've got a signed certificate from Grant certifying that he is my best friend and hetero porn pal, and will never, ever, hold me down with his strong arms and do me bad things.

I've got a wife, too. And a lovely daughtahahaahahahhhaah.

You should change your name to Mark Millhaus, Haus.

Sometimes I am very, very scared of Haus.

Which is weird, cos I'm not scared of Millar. I reckon I could have him. (Not like that, you understand. Though I probably could if I wanted to).

Apparently on the preview at newsarama (the same 8 pages from the WIZARD preview), they've changed the "S" symbol on his chest back to the usual standard one...

And it looks really wonky. The right-hand edge [as we're looking at it] is miles longer than the left-hand edge. I didn't like the redesigned 'S', but this ruins it somewhat.

Has This Interview at Silver Bullet Comics* been mentioned?

*not to be confused with SilverBulletComicBooks.com

(rather unfortunately, the Superman splash page JPG is named ASSMSPREAD, which looks a bit rude to me)

'Good sense, politeness and a bit of circumspection before posting will generally see you through.'according to the 'posting etiquette guide' for Barbelith users.

Haus - would it be too much to ask for a little restraint in future when you feel compelled to take yet another of your sleazy and abusive potshots at my wife ?

Thanks

Grant

I think you're missing the point, Grant.

ONLY NICE THINGS
08:49 / 06.10.05
For reference, Grant, I have never, to my knowledge, taken a potshot of any kind, sleazy, abusive or otherwise, at your wife.

The above was a potshot at Mark Millar's editorial style, or more precisely a humorous reference to a previous potshot at Mark Millar's editorial style. If you have evidence to support your accusation, then please present it, either on the board or by private message, and I will be happy to discuss it, as the maintenance of Barbelith as a safe space for its readers is, of course, important to me. However, it is my sincere belief that in this case you are mistaken in your understanding, and that this has led you to make an incorrect and offensive misstatement of fact.

That was like when a skyscraper-size Godzilla is stamping across the city but then a massive robot turns up and makes the monster look tiny. It prompted a queasy mixture of awe, envy, fear and sadness.
