So:

  • Shifting F1 back to before SS0 in agreement with you there, Chesed. As an intersection with 'our' plane it is a lot less full-on than the end of SS0, and there's some history therein, so I'd move it between Z1 and SS0.

  • SK2 has to occur over three days, I think. The attack on Vincenzo's casa involves his getting speared, then off-camera being put in the cauldron for the aforementioned 5 hours. But! SK4 on the same night is one day prior to B2 & Z3, alongside K3 and, therefore, MM3. (And G3's flashback.) So shifting SK2-4 to Day 3, and leaving MM2 as Day 2 alone. B2 moves from Day 3 to 4, between K4 and Z3 in that order. This means either Vanguard must be incorrect in his assertion Ali saw Ystin two nights prior, or Zatanna is incorrect in believing Vincenzo's last stand occurrred 'last night'. In which case, Z3 would be Day 5, but I believe the horse mistaken.

  • Also, for super-analism, I think JLA:C occurs about 11 months before SS, given the date (oddly) listed in JLA:C #1 (November 18) and the fact that Z3 is entitled 'Three Days of the Dead', for which I can discern no reason other than it occurs somewhere over Hallowe'en - All Souls Day (31/10-2/11,) probably the latter, for Ali and the Don's departure.

    All?

As in, no other Soldiers? As in: Alix is DEAD?

I really don't think character appearances in Infinite Sadface have any bearing on who dies, or who betrays the team come to think of it.

My ideal Seven Soldiers #1 will surprise me in terms of the death, and the traitor, and will also surprise me by being neither a retelling of an earlier Morrison comic, or an exposition of a flaky, rigourless, quasi-philosophical, quasi-psychological theory/system/methodology. Given the amounts of reaching and ignoring the comics themselves involved in attempts thus far to tie it into the latter*, I'm optimistic that it won't be, and it will just be a kick-ass story with some emotional pay-off.

*Franky represents the holistic worldview? Really? Are you quite sure he doesn't represent shooting monsters in the face?

Well, no Cass. Everyone else shows up too. But Ystin was the last hold-out.

    And also, I Vote Flyboy.

Alix is on the cover of Infinite Sadface #7, anyway. As near as I can tell 8C is underway in the latter part of the 7S storyline anyway, all the guff in Franks #2,3'n'4 would seem to suggest it, along with Zatanna's allusion in her last ish.

Wandering the country (+ time, the solar system,) occasionally encountering monsters, and then shooting them in the(ir) face(s) is a wee bit holistic, innit? Not that I particularly disagree in any regard about vMemes, just wish we could've had more conversation about the actual comics that didn't involve them, alongside.

And yes, as rumored, Ystin does something nasty to the Riddler.

In the context of a comic book universe, yes, he represents a holistic worldview.

When he shoots monsters in the face, he represents the goals and strategies of the S.H.A.D.E. organization, rather than his own. Growing up is the overall theme here. He realizes there a patterns in the grand system that he can't be personally and completely aware of, so he joins S.H.A.D.E., who seems to have a handle on the new century and all the wacky things that are going on.

    Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
    20:43 / 03.05.06
I leafed through the latest 8C shite. Alix is in there. Two page spread with her AND Klarion. Klarion was attacking some bad guy with Teekl.

And then I put it back down and went back to my business.

I suspect 7S happens in April, since it happens the week before 8C, and then 52 begins the day after 8C and happens in real time (and the first issue comes out next week). Infinite Crisis itself seems to happen over a very short period of time...

All the Soldiers (save Shilo) appear in the final double-page spread hilighting all the heroes that will take care of things in the absence of the big 3.

in this week's PERMANENT DAMAGE column, Steven Grant uses his favourite series of the past year - 7SOLDIERS - to discuss how publishers have delt with lateness since the 70s.

he apparently wasn't aware of JHW3 on DETECTIVE and of GM stating the script was ready and being trimmed down, which I'll be happy to inform. but it is, as usual, good reading.

You know what I'm starting to wonder?

What if the MM in 8C #5 was Scott, not Shilo?

What if the MM in 8C #5 was Scott, not Shilo?

That's my guess. He's wearing Shilo's costume, but has Scott's cape and is riding Scott's flying disc, neither of which we ever saw Shilo in possession of in his own series. And as Mr. Tricks pointed out above, Mr. Miracle is the only one of the seven who's absent from the stylish "future of the DCU" spread at the end of IC#7.

Surely we all want Mister Miracle to die because his series was really, in the end, quite shit compared to all the others?

What's an "Infinite Crisis"? I know the people reading it are sick of the hating, but I imagine that will stop when people stop trying to figure out which Soldier will cop it on the basis of cameo appearances in po-faced "we heroes, we stand united" spreads.

Let's get back to some decent tabulations like how people would rank each series now all seven are done. Here's my current one, with gaps to indicate where there's actually anything to choose between them.

    FRANKENSTEIN!
    Guardian
    Klarion

    Zatanna
    Shining Knight
    Bulleteer

    Mister Miracle

(I fully admit that Franky may be top just because it's fresh in my mind - still, the purple prose of the narrator is pretty hard to beat with a stick or a bat.)

    YAY lists!

This is based on my feelings now that I have read them all, when they were coming out MM was higher then a couple of the others, but the last issue left me wanting something else.

    Frankenstein
    Shining Night
    Guardian
    Klarion
    Bulleteer
    Zatanna
    Mister Miracle

    Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
    16:52 / 05.05.06
    Arrrr!

My list goes: Zatanna (swoon!), Klarion (sigh!), Frankenstein (arr!), Bulleteer (tinkle!), Manhattan Guardian (pow!), Shining Knight (bam?), and Mister Miracle (phbbt).

With some variation depending on time-of-day and whether I'm in the cosmic burlesque mood (Miss Zatanna), tawdry puritanism (Klarion) or whatnot. Klarion has to stand-out as the one I wasn't looking forward to hardly at all, didn't even pick up at first (you know, thinking that the modules were more modular), and then fell utterly and stupidly in love with. Or Mister Miracle, which was one of the ones I was really looking forward to, only I ended up walking away with a bad taste in my mouth. It did not feeling like it was trying.

I'm really bad at these sorts of lists. Pass.

With some margin of error, the rankings appear to be:

    Frankenstein
    Zatanna
    Klarion
    Manhattan Guardian
    Bulleteer
    Shining Knight
    Mister Miracle

    Quimper
    19:41 / 05.05.06
I feel all lists should be reformatted a la Papers.

    Imaginary Mongoose Solutions
    02:11 / 06.05.06
Well, allow me to voice an unpopular opinion.

    Zatanna
    Shining Night
    Frankenstein
    Bulleteer
    Mister Miracle
    Klarion
    Guardian

But, man that's a hard list to make... and I'm thinking I may just be giving MM too much credit despite the poor execution because the Ideas are so right on target for me.

Did anyone else like Mr. Miracle the best? I mean the last issue kinda saved the series, but man what a last issue!

The Mr. Miracle series is at the top of my list and I thought I was all by my lonesome. Loved it. Especially that last issue. Even the art changes worked for me, in the context of the story.

Franky comes next and close. He's my favorite soldier.

Zatana and Manhattan Guardian follow, with Z#4 being my favorite single issue (followed closely by MG#3).

Klarion has my favorite artwork and some of my favorite lines, SK surprised me & demanded a fresh reread, while The Bulleteer supplied the most laughs.

7S#0 was bloody awesome, and I can't wait for #1! This is definitely one of my favorite GM projects.
