Okay, I've added a great deal, but I don't want to discredit the person that did all the work before me. If you are that person... I'm thinking Tricks, Quantum or Quimper... please IM me and we can hash out how to word "what I think" versus "what you think", and how we may overlap.

Wow. That's kinda cool.

By the way, I think quite a few folks on the wiki aren't on the messageboard at all -- Squinky might be in that camp.

The author of the Salon article has a blog he does over here, which I dig a lot as it features music and comics geekery. He has also just started a stand alone blog about 52 here.

Picked up TPB #3 today. The only major extra is the cover for vol. 4, which is NOT the cover solicited, but a continuation of the nested group covers, with Frankie doing his best Shadow impersonation.

I don't have a scanner, unfortunately, and DC doesn't have the proper cover up. But if I find it somewhere, I'll post it.

Hmm. I read the third volume todya, and re-read the other two.

I like this story, and I want to like all of it, but the Frankenstein one just had me wanting to be ill. It was classic Invisibles-sort of stuff (I expected King Mob to blow off Uglyhead's...errr...head...at some point), but at the same time it was by far the most disgusting off the seven books.

Zatanna continues to be pretty cool, though. I liked the Mr. Miracle stuff. It was a weird but kind of nifty take on the New Gods.

The Bulleteer was great. That was pure laughs. I kind of miss Shining Knight, though.

Klarion, though, is proving to be my favourite next to Zatanna. That weird occult American Gothic feel to it is wonderfully done, though I still think that Zatanna's duel in Slaughter Swamp was also pretty dan cool.

Its a weird comic. Kind of mind bendy. And I'm always trying to figure out what parts of continuity it touches on that I don't know about...which is where my confusion often comes into play. I don't know what Morrison has changed (or, more to the point, how the Sheeda have altered the DC universe the characters exist in) and what is based on past continuity.

Volume 3 doesn't have Issue #1 in it, innit?

Volume 3 doesn't even have the last parts of the minis. That'll be 4 you're thinking of.

Given that Seven soldiers #1 has - if rumours are to be believed - not even be written yet, tpb#4 is unlikely to ship
in july. Any word on when it will come out?

Mario
21:03 / 03.06.06
7S #1 is still scheduled for this month. Assuming it keeps to that schedule, a trade in July is not beyond belief.

Still scheduled for July 26th.

SEVEN SOLDIERS #1 has been cancelled and will be resolicited at a later date.

I wouldn't expect to see it until at least September now...

Ah well. More money for food

BTW, are you Hawaiian, Malio?

Our Lady Has Left the Building

This is just ridiculous, I thought the whole structure of SS was supposed to stop precisely this type of pissing about...

Mario
11:41 / 07.06.06
I get the impression that Grant bit off a bit more than he could chew on this. SS#1 has to wrap up a lot of plotlines.

Aertho
13:24 / 07.06.06
Not necessarily. I don't care about Mister Miracle's commission to save the New Gods, or what the other seven treasures are, or who Misty's parents are, who the Seven Unknown Men are, what Oracle/Aurakles has to do with anything, or even Alix's superhero ancestor. I just want to see them kick Sheeda ass in hurricane-leveled New York City, put Gloriana on trial in SHADE HQ, and teach us all a lesson in cultural appropriation and respecting our parents. And then everyone can go home.

These extraneous plotlines can be resolved in future stories/future books.

Like "Mindee".
grumble.

Is...is that Zatanna and Ali Ka Zoom chatting it up in the hospital in 52 #5?

The final Stepford Cuckoo as named by Chuck Austen?

JHW3 had this to say on the Newsarama talkback on the 7S rescheduling:

>> hey all, just wanted to pipe in here and give my two cents for what it's worth. i apologize that seven soldiers has gotten so screwed up. the script wasn't fully ready until recently and i needed to have some work so i did a single issue for detective. i know that DC has solicited the following issue of detective as me doing that as well. however that is wrong info. i had to finish the 821 issue of detective while waiting on script for seven soldiers. that came in while working on detective so now i am fully working on seven soldiers fulltime. but one of the other reasons it will take so long is that it will be a monster of a task. the issue is loaded with all kinds of stuff that is taking some serious care from the drawing side of things. hopefully you will all see what i mean when the issue does make it to your book shelf. i will be returning to batman stuff when seven soldiers finally wraps

He has given a similar statement here on Barbelith when the news of his drawing Dini's Detective run came up, as I recall.

BUMP
So who's got issue one and how good is it?

Ignore me, in my excitement I didn't read a few posts up.

Sorry for the fuck up...

Behold as Frankenstein slots Bulleteer into a giant space-gun!

See, now if this doesn't happen, I'm going to be disappointed. Damn you, sir.

ONE SOLDIER MUST DIE! Who do YOU choose? Karion or Zatanna : we don't need two masters of magic. I say the emo kid with the cat gets it!

Ignoring the various cameos in 52 and OYL issues...

...it makes the most sense to me if Manhattan Guardian sacrifices himself, inspiring Bulleteer to win the battle.
This is very much influenced by my unequal love of the characters--I don't think my heart could take the death of Klarion.

Good point about Mahnattan Guardian: and he is a mascot/franchise so if one dies they can easily employ another. Frankenstein: well ,you cannot kill what does not live. Bulleteer, rubbish at fighting, but mostly indestructable. Shining Knight, who knows, indeed who cares? Though i think it's unlikely to be one of the women. Mister miracle and Zatanna are both pretty established, so i'm not sure if he'd be allowed to kill them off.

So maybe the Manhattan Guardian would be a likely candidate. But my money's still on the witch-boy never making it to witch-man...

13:22 / 27.06.06
My bet is Shilo Norman. He's been mostly in limbo for years, and Scott is still around to play Mister Miracle.

Aertho
13:25 / 27.06.06
I vote Frank.

Shilo's already dead.

And Cassandra, check the wiki -- Squinky wants to play.

Oh ze didn't need to do all that. I tried to credit hir with hir contributions while also allowing for alternative interpretations. Now it seems as though ze feels badly... It's too badd we can't have direct dialogue.

And I reallllly ought to finish my write-ups. I've been playing so much Warcraft that I've neglected that, as well as my explanation of my design of Big Barda over on Project Rooftop. Oy vey. I'm a l37 Druid! Rawk.

Another reason I like MGuardian as a choice is that he's been trying to prove himself a hero to win the hearts of his family, but in so doing has pushed them away. For him to sacrifice himself would prove once and for all that he is a hero! and with no powers to boot!

FinderWolf
14:06 / 29.06.06
But then McGuardian can't join the new JLA (as so many have speculated/hoped he will)!

Aertho
14:55 / 29.06.06
Jake WON'T die. He'd sooner cheat on Carla.

And I doubt Guardian's part of the new JLA. There's an image floating around.

Plus he has to have a kid first. Tru fax.

Our Lady Has Left the Building
17:08 / 29.06.06
It's the old cowboy fella from issue #0 that was in Bulletteer stopping Spyder from attacking Alix. He'll die.

Aertho
18:06 / 29.06.06
He's a ghost. Or a "spirit of the gun", as he says. Dead already.

Frank and The Bride's differently active; Vigilante and Ali KaZoom are ghosts, Mister Miracle got better, Lance Harrower's line went flat (or was that Alix's?), Miracle Mesa team died, Helligan's kaput. Who's "alive"?
