Last week Edith Bowman read out a text from someone who didn't like Rush Hour 3. One of their major criticisms was tha Chris Rock just gets Gayer and Gayer.

Edith Bowman should be hung. Public Service Broadcasting! That means I should, be able to listen to it without wanting to hang the DJ! (Oh shit, I'm sure I should be ashamed that the Smiths reference was entirely un-intentional).

Also, at work, a while back, I was on a till that couldn't accept cash transactions. A young couple finally got to the end of my fairly long queue, and wanted to pay cash. I regretably told them they couldn't. The woman said "Shit! OK then." Surprisingly cheerfully and started to pack their stuff back into their trolley. The guy then grabbed her by the wrist, said "No! We aren't fucking queing again!" and pulled her out of the store.

He literally pulled her out of the store.

This guy thought it was OK to grab his partner by the wrist and without a single word of discussion LITERALLY, I cannot stress that enough, LITERALLY pull her out of the store.

Sailor Warrior Pacific State, re: Edith Bowman, was this on Radio One? Because, thanks to Chris Moyles it has been made policy that 'gay' is used as a derogatory term because that's how 'da yoof' use it, although strangely 'da yoof' argument isn't effective when it comes to arguing that racial terms of abuse should therefore be broadcast on Radio 1 as well.

It's a bit worrying about how this thread started with a complaint about food-porn and has now reached states of real violence and hate.

My hate for today is my old nemesis, the Daily Mail. And the question which is worse, the article about Cornwall villages who decided to dress up as Muslims or the comments allowed through by the moderators afterwards.

Why, oh why, won't people realise non-violent protest is a legitimate form of political engagement.

That's strange because Moyles appears to be, physically, a fully grown fucking adult.

Why isn't Racism 101 taught in England? Heck, why isn't taught in the States? Oh wait, it affects people of colour.

Clearly a waste of resources.

Moyles is projecting. Sure, some of "da yoof" use it; and other youths regularly get the living hell kicked out of them because of being gay. Sensible youths, whether gay or straight, will realise it's pretty disgusting to use "gay" as an insult with this context.

Is there some sort of policy document or news story out there about a) Moyles pushing for this and b) it being policy? If so, I find that quite staggering.

And I'd add only slightly jokingly, who exactly do we have to kill to get that policy changed?

People are refering to this.

The governors' programme complaints committee - which operates independently of the BBC - acknowledged Chris Moyles' description of a ringtone he did not like as "gay" could cause offence.

But the use of the word "gay" to mean "lame" or "rubbish" was widespread among young people, it said.

"In broadcasting to an audience of predominantly young people, it was to be expected that Chris Moyles would use expressions and words which the listeners used themselves," the committee's report said.

How do you get the BBC to change? First, you become Prime Minister or Principle Private Press Secretary, then you kill a scientist...

So, yesterday I heard a news clip of an NAACP official defending Michael Vick, and I'm not gunna lie it made me wonder if drinking the Kool-Aid to get on the spaceship wasn't such a bad plan.

For those of you across the pond who may not know, Vick is a profession American football player and pretty high profile in that regard. He just plead guilty to running an illegal dog fighting ring on property he owned, and i'm 90% sure he plead guilty to strangling, drowning, and hanging dogs that weren't good killers.

Then, R.L. White, president of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP said that Vick made a big mistake, and should be allowed to go back to the NFL after his punishment.

THIS comes from the same organization that hailed Don Imus as a partner to the fucking devil, and that Imus should NEVER work in radio again, even after being fired from his job RIGHT BEFORE doing a fund-raiser for children with fucking cancer. But ya know, saying a stupid joke based on a reference to an old TV show is so much worse then snuffing out an animals life because it wasn't vicious enough. I just don't get these people, Vick the dog-killer, he deserves a second chance, but not old Don Imus. Its just so...hypocritical it makes me want to scream.

A report recommended a community service order, but Recorder William Featherby questioned how Read would fit it in around his long working hours.

Oh, BOO FUCKING HOO. Nasty little shit's got time to brand his wife with a steam iron, he's got time to pick up some crap off the verge.

I seriously hope something of equivalent vindictiveness befalls Read. I mean, I hope he gets drunk down the wrong pub and opens his smirking overpaid mouth to the wrong bloke. I really do. Him and the judge.

GarbageGnome - my SO listens to sports radio every morning and has been losing his shit listening to people defend Vick. It's not just the NAACP. But I agree it's infuriating. I heard one talking head liken his crime (not once, but twice) to sports pool betting at the office - it's illegal, but everyone does it, so it doesn't seem bad when you do it. Yeah, NOT THE SAME. I also call bullshit on the popular talking point that "you have to understand, this is a subculture." No, goth is a subculture. Torturing animals is an activity that's cruel, unethical, and illegal.

Oh God, that is horrible.

Am I wrong in finding it really icky that Elizabeth, despite having filed for divorce and reverted to Axe, her maiden name, is continually reffered to as Mrs. Read, or most often, His Wife?

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Well, I guess the reason they would give is that, until the divorce is done, she is legally still Mrs Read.

I'm just concerned that the only place I'm hearing this story is from noted bastion of women's rights, the Daily Mail. Will have to check the South London Press this weekend...

Etc etc.

What's your opinion on the Don Imus controversy, GarbageGnome? Do you think that it's just harmless fun for a couple of white guys on radio to talk about Women's Basketball players as "hard-core hos" and "nappy-headed hos"? Do you think doing charity gigs compensates for these kind of remarks? Do you think the NAACP are wrong when they say that the media coverage of Vick has assumed guilt before the investigation into his alleged mistreatment of animals has concluded? Do you have anything you'd like to share explicitly, rather than insinuate, about why you think the NAACP might be saying that about Vick, and why you think they took such objection to what you clearly see as harmless banter on the part of Imus?

People heard the "joke", they know that Imus made the "joke" so they judge Imus for his actions.

Vick the alleged dog killer has not yet been found guilty.

Is it too much to ask you to 1) think about the facts and 2) think about entirely separate incidents that have no bearing on each other and aren't similar in any way separately?

Not content with continuning to keep hold of a small country now the chinese govenment do this. They have introduced laws banning Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission!!!!!!!

Starting next month, the State Administration for Religious Affairs will begin instituting stipulations regarding "the procedures by which one is to reincarnate." It will be illegal "to identify the child reincarnation of the Dalai Lama" without the approval of Chinese authorities. Quite a shift, given Beijing's official atheism. But is the move totalitarian mumbo-jumbo or could there political motivations? Washingpost

Vick the alleged dog killer has not yet been found guilty.

Actually, he agreed to plead guilty last Monday (officially entering the plea next week) and will be sentenced in November.

He maintains he didn't actually kill dogs himself - and the NAACP fellow said Vick might be copping a plea - but those familiar with the "sport" say that's likely hooey, and one of his co-defendants has alleged that he hanged, drowned and electrocuted the animals himself. But either way, he was funding the business that did this. He was the boss.

On the other hand, the substance of the NAACP statement is that he should serve his time and be done with it, which seems fair enough.

TBH, my only intent was to show that the two situations don't constitute a case of "this guy's white so we crucify/this guy's black so we defend", which I felt was lurking in the subtext of GG's post. But, having reread now, I totally see where you're coming from and I'm glad you pointed it out.

To stay ontopic, dogfighting makes me a very, very angry monk.

While this is on-topic, and, at heart, fundamentally rage-making, I find this development in the Vick coverage so joy-making it runs counter to the spirit of this thread. For which I apologize.

But, man.

Quite frankly today hasn't been very good to me.

About 30 minutes ago I got chucked out of a club by my neck.

Basically, the other week I tried to get into The Village but got knocked back by the head bouncer who claims that he barred me the week before because I tried to smuggle in vodka. Never mind that I wasn't even out this week.

Tonight me and my friends went to the Late Lounge which is adjacent. Spent two hours there, no trouble. Come out of the toilets and suddenly I'm grabbed by my neck and forced out, in front of about 100 people, to the doors. The bouncer (the same bouncer who accused me last week) going, all the while, "If I see you again I'm gonna fucking kill you, you cunt". So what do I do? Do I fight back? The guy outweighs me by about five stone and a foot.

Sorry to unload all this on you but I've been near to tears for quite a bit and it's, well, it's shit.

It's fucking shit.
