Aye that getting more like, t-shirts with weird little cartoons or phraes that kind of stuff, its not easy to find stuff like that on the net if you don't know the name of the companies that make them.

bear, there are quite a few cool t-shirts to be found at Airside - with designs by Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly), Peter Fowler (SFA) and others.

Check out the Battle Royale and Sabbath - the early years shirts.

Verry nice.

Question for U.S. 'Lithers with the W.B. who, you know, care:

What the fuck happened to Angel? I can't find it in the TV guide listings, and the link to it's own wee page on the WB website also appears to be gone. Did it shift timeslots, or networks, or planes of existence?

Another one from me sorry !

Does anyone know of a shop in London with a large collection of tarot cards, I've found online shops but its not quite the same - a new age type shop would probably cut it.

I've checked in the yellow pages but its all crap about Mystic Judy giving readings from £20 a pop....

Where the **** has Nick got to? He hasn't been around for at least a month, it seems. Surely even writers don't go on holiday for that long?

villagephoto.com ain't bad. I think Mordant had another one.

There's also a dodge I've noticed if you use Movable Type for a blog, since you can upload an image to a Movable Type server and get an address for it - my Movable Type blog is set up by a friend of mine, so I don't know if he's paying for the space or if it's free, so I don't do it much.

Barry. No, it wasn't a 'lith brainchild, although I have no idea where it actually started. I think it's just one of those inexplicable - much like 'All Your base...' - which just seems to pop into existance and then spreads like a virus through pretty much everyone. It's already spread to comics, so presumably the next stage will be urban legend, then myth, then Hollywood.

Is there any non-criminal way for me to cash a cheque that is made out to someone-else? It's a really contrived situation involving rent and deposits on a flat and stuff... Basically I'm owed the money by the friend (and ex-flatmate) who the cheque is made out to, but he's gone back to his own country and I've got no way to contact him.

iivix23 -- I don't think it can be done legally.

To be honest, if he's left the country without a forwarding address, what are the chances of there being anything in his account to cover the cheque?

to cover the cheque

I meant, to cover the debt. I would assume he had a sizeable overdraft before he skipped town.

Um...Ignatius, doesn't iivix23's post read as saying that the cheque wasn't written by said friend, just made out to him? I thought he was trying to cash it in order to recoup the money owed. Unfortunately, the answer is still the same. Without breaking the law, or finding an unperceptive cheque cashing service, it looks like you're stuck with the debt, iivix23...

Tez got it right there. Cheers for the advice ppl. Assuming I managed to get in touch with my friend, is there any way I could get him to sign something to authorise me to cash the cheque? Or would I be best giving him the cheque and hoping that he's honest enough to write me one back with the money owed?

Alright I was thinking about posting this in the lyrics but maybe it's a bit rotty - This might be hard for me to explain, I was wondering if there is a specific name for certain types of songs.

I was thinking about Iron Maiden lyrics and the way most songs aren't something you can relate to on a personal level, for example being a tailgunner in world war II or Highlander or living your last few moments before being hanged. Is there a name for that type of music?

There are probably more bands that do the same thing, probably other metal bands.

Does anyone follow that?

iivix23 -- OK, blood sugar's back up. I don't think there's any way you can cash this cheque (if memory serves me correctly, you used to be able to do things like this but not since anti-money-laundering legislation was enacted). It will have to be paid into his account. You'll probably have to do that yourself over here so you'll need his sort code and account number. (Foreign banks won't take UK cheques, though he may be able to find an ex-pat branch of the UK bank willing to take it. But why bother adding this complication?)

Then I guess you could get him to write you a cheque using his old UK chequebook, send it to you and you pay it in over here.

I really think you're going to hit problems though. Why did he leave the country without this money he was owed? Without a forwarding address? Could it be his overdraft would have swallowed up the cheque? If the writer of the cheque was a mutual acquaintance, maybe you could arrange a swap?

.
15:43 / 28.11.02
OOOh, it's such a palaver isn't it? Unfortunately the cheque was made out by the letting agent, so there's no swapping there (plus we have a few dodgy things between us and them) and my friend can be described quite accurately as honest but utterly unreliable. He left the country without a forwarding address because he travels around a lot, and he left without his money because he obviously thought that since he'd owed it me anyway, I'd deal with it... My advice is to avoid having flatmates at all costs.

I have this PC-Illin 'personal firewall/antivirus' software running, and it flashes on when I get a ping from someone, or a 'NetBIOS attack'. Regarding the latter, is this something I should worry about? Is there anything I can do about it, or should I just ignore it, or disconnect?
