Finished Metroid Prime recently, and that was fab. And we just got our advance GBA:SP in, so I've got to run out and buy Fusion. Can't wait.

You can hear my productivity rating scream as it plummets from a high window.

Oh, and Unreal 2 - got that, too, but beside being quite pretty, there's not all that much to it.

I Want Unreal 2. Badly. But given the performance of UT2003, or lack thereof, on my machines, I just can't bring myslef to spend $70 on a game I'm (almost certain) I can't run without an extra $200 video card. I only want to make levels, and single player ones at that, and the Unreal engine is the best for it, but the editor won't work on my machines. the game runs fine, but the editor is out of video memory on startup. Cursed progress.

So i'm playing Return to Wolfenstein, which is good, single player. Better than the first Unreal, but no Deus Ex. Close. I think I'll try my hand at finding someone to code Captain Amerikka into RTCW. I'm also tempted to reinstall "Heroes of Might and Magic 4", because I live to waste time.

Yes, videodrome, you must. It is possibly a tad easier - everything you kill basically replenishes you, and Super Metroid seemed way harder... but it's SO much fun, and so slickly designed. And, like the other games, it really is more than just a platformer... the whole exploration thing is great.

I don't want a Cube, nor can afford one, but I'd love to try Prime... it does look interesting.

Oh, and you have a preview SP? Is it as nice/shiny as we are led to believe? The frontlight and rechargable battery are the really interesting factors but it's so... shiny...

The rechargable battery seems a bit dumb to me. You knock the whole point of the machine - the fact that it's portable - on the head, especially when the battery life is as short as the reports make this out to be. I've changed my mind on this over the last couple of days - it's a lovely piece of kit, but not something I'm going to be in a rush to get. The standard GBA does me fine.

Got Amped. A true successor to 1080, with only the expertise required to land the board missing (although I get the feeling that I'm the only person in the world who liked the extra challenge that provided in Nintendo's title). I can't work out why, but ripping music to the hard drive and using it in-game feels different to the usual trick of turning the game music off and sticking the stereo on. It works brilliantly - pulling tricks to Eddie Bo's Check Your Bucket has to rate as my favourite Xbox moment so far.

And JSRF is as essential as I knew it would be.

I've been playing Fusion via the VirtualBoy emulator, and it's pretty cool. need to pick up the game today so I can play it on the GBA:SP.

I like the Cube a lot - it's far more slickly designed than the clunky XBox, and there's finally titles coming out that take advantage of it. And Prime makes it utterly worthwhile, if nothing else.

So far, there's good and bad re: the SP. It's a little small - obviously designed by Japanese hands for Japanese hands, and anyone with hands bigger average will get cramped playing it pretty quick. The shoulder buttons are a little small, and the lack of a headphone jack is just stupid. There's no reason to leave that out, and I've yet to read a decent explanation for having done so.

That said, the backlight is great, and it's a cool as hell little design. I like the rechargable battery - it's lasted quite a while for me, nearly the ten hours promised, and I can't see playing it that much in a single day. God, I hope not. The charger is very small, so if you've got a mind to carry the SP with you, keeping the charger in yer bag shouldn't prove a problem.

So it's a mixed bag - the clamshell and backlight make it even more portabkle, but the lack of a headphone jack makes it untenable for plane or other public transport.

I'm playing the Sonic Pack for Gamecube at the moment. Other than spinball and sonic3d, the games are as fun as I remember them.

The 2 player on sonic2 is still one of my favourite competitive two player games.

You can also unlock a full version of FLICKY(an old old game) and RISTAR(another kid oriented game, but still fun to play). As well as some other extras.

Also playing WRECKLESS. I can tell once it's beaten I Won't revisit it much. Would have been perfect if it had included a roam or 2 player option. But it's still fun and only cost me 6 bucks.

one problem with the sonic pack though. There is still a slowdown on sonic2 two player game. Anyone who's played it beofre will know what I mean. If there's was one thing I thought would have disapeared on the gamecube, it would be slow down.

Sounds like they knocked up a Genesis/MD emulator and just let it run on that... slowdown tends to carry over on emulators, I think, unless you set them to unlimited framerate- something Nintendo/Sega probably wouldn't do to ensure compatibility.

Yeah, they're emulations rather than conversions, and emulated games will run exactly the same as the originals.

What sadist came up with this chocobo racing mini-game? It's horrible. Why would someone want to do this to innocent gamers? I remember the simpler times of the 8-bit and 16-bit era where if you wanted to get the super-ultimate-badass weapon of destructive doom you went on a quest, kicked much monster ass and got it for a reward. Now players are reduced to this mockery of a mini-game. Not only do you have to dodge birds and collect balloons while fighting with an unresponsive mass of bright yellow feathers, but your total time has to be under 0.00. Why? Why would anyone want to subject people to this?

I feel for you about the whole Chocobo racing mini-games...that was the part of FFVII that I hated with a passion. The good thing is that once you get some of the faster Chocobo breeds, you can run the races while talking on the phone or doing other things that don't need as much attention.

I'm playing Solider of Fortune on my computer when I have time. I LOVE FPS games, but the brutality of the game disturbs me a bit. Yes, I know it's meant to be more "realistic", but giving more points for crotch shots just strikes me as brutal for the sake of being brutal, rather than pushing a reward for playing the game intelligently.

And when I get done with it, I will make the dive into Final Fantasy X...

I'm playing Sega's new SHINOBI game for the Playstation 2 lately. And depending on when you ask me, it is either the shittiest, cock-thieving, kick-you-in-the-balls-and-take-your-lunch-money ripoff ever or the coolest high-octane tribute to the classic games of old. More often than not, it's been the former.

This thing is incredibly goddamn hard. It's a slick game, especially with the 'tate' kills (wherein you basically rack up minion kills to culminate into very cool cutscenes of Hotsuma slashing/paralyzing his foes, only to see them fall apart in a delayed moment right in front of you) and the ghost dash (which leaves a trace image of yourself for bad guys to attack and for you to use to strike when their back is to you) but it's so incredibly difficult to get that down when baddies are coming at you from every direction. It definitely does not let up. Ever. The camera angles also run the gamut from very cool and cinematic to hair-pulling blindness when it comes to seeing just where the fuck your enemies are.

Along with that bundle of fun, the bosses are a trick and a half to defeat. I'm at the final boss and I honestly believe they set this thing up for a person to NEVER defeat him. I've wasted 4-10 hours a day for two months now trying to best this guy. And I always always always have my ass handed to me.

It wouldn't be so bad if the little pissant didn't have such stupid hair. It's like getting smacked down by the squeaky pimpled kid on the Simpsons.

My only consolation for sanity in playing this thing was finding thatthe reviews for it on the ezboards by Panos Pallaris are absolutely spot-on, especially when referring to the final boss as a "cheating jammy fuckface". It was worth it just to read someone else sharing in the aggravation.

If you like your games mean, brutal and challenging instead of the usual drive-through-the-park ease of most Playstation toys, then pick this one up and charge through it. Otherwise, avoid it at all costs or at least keep your firearms well out of reach. This fucker doles out frustration like kisses. *flips the TV the bird in case it's listening*

If you're having trouble with the last boss, take a look at this video. Some guy recorded himself beating it and it doesn't look too hard. Of course, that's what I said about this damned race. "Oh, it can't be that hard". What was I thinking? I was this close to beating that damned race. 0.08. One more balloon and I would have won! Dammit all!

Don't play games much so currently going back in time and playing Dune 2000. I did play Return to Castle Wolfenstein and found it irritating, as lots of it was in the pitch black, even with all brightness levels on max. The fact that it's gone all Aliens Vs. Predator and one shot and your dead is interesting but meant I had to use the cheat after the Supersoldiers turned up. I'm not going to bother with Doom III as it looks like it's going to be the same, I like seeing where I'm going.

Havinga new Pc is awkwardly tempting me to buy new games, which is pointless as they depreciate incredibly quickly anyway, and I rarely have the time or attention to devtoe to them. I've just finished American McGee's Alice, which is not that great as a game - after Deus Ex, it felt astonishingly linear, and the Ai of the bad guys was just embarrassing. However, it scores big for being absolutely *beautiful* - more like an interactive screensaver than a game in some ways.

Hmn. Alice is quite pretty at times, especially in the whole fucking-with-perspective department, but conceptually it just pisses me off... there's this whole "yeah, we're so mature we took a perfectly good book and like, made it fucking angsty and black, man" and it really irritates me. I believe American McGee is now working on American McGee's Oz, where he does a similar take on the Wizard of Oz. Still could be interesting, and visually lovely, but might piss me off even more. That said, I really don't care what people do with L Frank Baum, but I do care about Carroll.

Whereas conversely I'm disappointed that the "death by fire" bit was so half-arsed; far more interesting to examine Victorian sexuality as a casus belli, but also rather too demanding, one suspects...

I beat that dragon guy in Final Fantasy X last night - I've never been so happy in my life

Well maybe not quite that happy but after starting at the beginning again I think I might have cried if I hadn't beaten it!

Rose: is Soldier of Fortune one of the Rainbow Six-style games? Where the emphasis is on equal parts preplan and performance(Get a briefing, pick your teams, plan an approach, then actually play the FPS)... I liked R6, but the type of clinical sociopath it required me to aspire to was pretty scary.

Haus: I've found that, after Deus Ex, every FPS feels too linear. I can't figure out why professional level designers (and storywriters) keep building environments with only one access road. DE made it look so easy... granted, the scripting of the multiple plot threads is a bitch, but something as simple as a couple extra air vents is laughably easy in the Unreal editor.

I tried to play "The Getaway" and hated the gameplay so gave up after two levels. I was looking forward to it so much.

I'm playing "LotR:TTT" on PS2. It's just running around killing things, but the killing orcs and Uruk-Hai and you get to play as Aragorn so that's okay.

I played a little bit of "Kingdom Hearts" at a friend's place and it is such a cool game. I am eagerly awaiting his completion of it and subsequent hand off.

A copy of "Ratchet and Clank" has just been placed on my desk. From what little I've played of this it seems like a great platform game.

Downloaded Command & Conquer Generals yesterday and I must say that it's probably one of the best computer games I've ever had the opportunity to play.

You'd need a pretty high-end machine, but the graphics are simply sublime and the game play - well, the game play starts off almost insultingly easy but quickly escalates into an 'aaaarrrgghhh, what the fook's going on?' scenario. But a very enjoyable one, rather that some patronisingly difficult dying festival.

It's one of those learning curves that cheats you into thinking, "Grrr! There's no way I should have died then. One more game and I'll prove it!", ad infintum. Notwithstanding the fact that the graphics are simply awe-inspiring; there's so much going on at once a lot of the time that it seems like you're watching a virtual; depiction of some particularly bloodthirsty historical battle.

I can't recomend Command & Conquer : Generals enough. Great game.

Are any of the sim expansion packs worthy of purchase? I know people who loves the game, it could provide me with easy presents... but I'd prefer to buy one that's actually worth it. If such a thing exists.

Wait till you start messing about with skins for Sims Chairman, I got hooked dowloaded wallpapers and clothes - oh yeah and turning my family into characters from Buffy and Angel - think I might start playing again tonight.

So a few people here have completed Final Fantasy X right, what's with the Fayth in the cave? Do I really have to pay 3 million for him? I only have 1 million

Look up Dr Frankensim. Nowhere else is there a more pleasing collection of Dictator skins for Sims. Adolf Hitler seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning the toilet in my Sim household.

I'm thinking of getting a PS2, actually, as a "woohoo! You've moved out! Spend money until you can only eat beans, even though you don't like them!" kind of present.

So. What PS2 games do I neeeeed?

3 million? Are you sure you're reading that correctly? I swear his first offer was 300,000. Of course, I didn't have that much when I first met him and I still don't. Probably because I'm spending so much time on that damned chocobo race. If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to talk him down to 250,000, or 2.5 million, or whatever the right price is.

Yeah your right Trijhaos, well kinda. He should have offered me his services for around 300,000 but I picked the wrong choice when you first talk to him. Luckily I've saved it before the battle with that other Aeon.

I was checking a site all about the game, and it's amazing how much I've missed out. I want all the black magick for Lulu and it says I should have them all by now.

If you could skip through all the movies I'd probably play it again but if/when I do finish I think it'll never get used again!

I'm having a crack at Metroid Prime on the Game Cube.

That big dopey flower monster in the sun chamber - you knock the four dishes out of action, the beastie collapses, you morph into a ball, roll into the tube and let off a bomb. Suddenly the dishes re-activate and the bastard jumps up again. Now, I assume you have to do this once for each tube. Is that right and, if so, is it possible to do the same tube more than once without realising it?

Having carefully avoided the Sims for the last month or so, it's got me again. In the meantime I've been playing Age of Mythology. It's amazing how well you can besiege Troy when your army consists entirely of Minotaurs and Hydrae...

I started Metroid Prime yesterday after picking up a gamecube Friday night. I've only gotten up to the first save point because I had to stop and go into work, but I'm enjoying it immensely, going around scanning stuff, and making other stuff go boom. It's odd really, as most first person shooters I've played weren't all that fun. The only other one I really liked was Deus Ex, although Wolfenstein 3D wasn't too bad.

Bear - possibly. All I'm saying is *cough* emulation *cough*. But seriously: SFA3, Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars, and the Tony Hawk ports are all pretty superb. Advance Wars is addictive beyond belief, Fusion's great fun, SFA3 is brilliance in an 8mb cart. There's a lot of shit for it, but there's also some gems. And lots of fab SNES ports - Mario World and Yoshi's Island (oh, the crayoned loveliness of Yoshi's Island) are worth a shout. And Mario Kart's probably the best incarnation of it ever - slicker than the SNES, better than N64.

The original gbas should be around £30 now, they're £50 new beause of the big shiney frontlit rechargable SP. Games can be cheap secondhand, and there are some might fine ones. Seriously, Advance Wars is just one of the best simple-yet-difficult strategy games ever.
