Captain Zoom
21:42 / 22.01.03
I was so happy with Xander's speech at the end of this week's ep. Finally the character's promise for the last 7 seasons is fulfilled. We watch him try and try to "progress" with the others but now realize he's grown up and accepted his place in a way that none of the other characters have. To me this was a huge pay off for his character. It sort of made me feel that if this is the last season, that the character of Xander Harris, after whatever apocalyptic thing happens at the series end, will be able to walk away from the fighting, realizing that there are people whose job it is to keep the world safe, that for a while he did his part, but now his path lies elsewhere, in becoming a productive member of the society that his friends protect. That's the feeling I've been getting from him for the last couple of seasons anyway. He has the job, has his own place, almost got married, did stereotypical things that people do when they're not a superhero. He's the everyman lense of the show, and once the show ends, the everyman needs to walka way and muse on what an interesting time it's all been.

I think about this far too much.

Zoom.

As do I, Zoomie. Mr. Cynic in my head kept waiting for, as X walked away into that all-too-wide shot, the Bringers to leap into the room and cut his head off. Executive Producer Joss Whedon.

I am so fucking glad that the Mathelete from Freaks & Geeks is a potential, by the way. She's rocked in everything I've ever seen her in and now she gets to kick some serious ass. The Potentials just might be a kick ass show in its own right next season (oh, you know it's going to happen). If I ever get to write comics for a living, though, I definitely want to do a Potentials mini. Fuck that. A Mathelete solo one shot. (Why can't I remember her character's name?). I'll just call it MATHELETE: A SQUARED PLUS B SQUARED EQUALS C SQUARED.

WHAM!

03:40 / 23.01.03
HAHAHAH the Mathelete! I loved Freaks and Geeks and I was super fucking siked that Millie (on Buffy her name is Amanda) is a potential. And she's the potential with the most potential. All the other p's are basically background characters. Kennedy is the best but she's too good so there's very little room for improvement. Amanda is a horrible dork and I think she should get the powers when Faith bites it! (not a spoiler just guessing.) It would be great seeing her grow sorta like Willow did.

I love Ben's, plans for the p's. It could be like charlie's angels and the powerpuff girls rolled into a Buffy-like package. Hey, wasn't there a p missing this episode? The cute hispanic looking one with short hair?

You know, I'm a spoiler junkie. Anyone know where I can get info on how this season's going to end? I'm dying here.

Two things of intrest. The hispanic girl that impulsivelad has alluded to is actually Maranda from LIZZE MUGUIRE. Hey I have to watch it at work on Saturdays. Leave me alone. And on Dark Horizons the big Buffy scoop yesterday was that after Buffy ends that Xander is the leading canidate to make the leap of stations over to Angel. maybe they could use that as a Xander, Angel, Cordellia triangle.

the MATHLETE! i KNEW i knew her... thanky... i have to agree the Zeppo is a GREAT episode... in this last episode i was bothered by the lack of Giles

(thread rot) you and yr dark horizions! freakwolf you movie dork! sorry, he's the first guy i know in real life that's a lither... sigh... i'm lovin' this too too much (/thread rot)

so what do you think the plans for Andrew are? i suspect he's gonna be there for more than just comic relief in the long run... and what of the Princible Wood? we haven't seen him in a while...

in this last episode i was bothered by the lack of Giles

Yes, what a coincidence that Giles disappears when the first goes into remission. I knew that nigga was evil!!! (oh course, he cause very well be picking up another P but if he comes back empty handed he's evil!)

And thanks for the Xander tidbit FreakWolf.

14:19 / 23.01.03
Well sadly I read today on Dark Horizons that Xander is NOT moving over to Angel and that even if it was mentioned that he would not be interested. That makes me sad as Xander is one of my favorite characters.

06:27 / 24.01.03
awww i just read my fancy "trade magazine" about TV and the president of UPN was saying that she REALY hoped that Buffy would return even if somehow w/o SMG and said that she and the fox people were gonna try and talk Joss into something... i have NO idea what this means... but oh well... that's what the report said

01:01 / 26.01.03
So Im watching this weeks ep. for the second time and the thought comes to me. Xander would make the perfect watcher...Not Willow. I think that the seven years he had being in the line of fire, involved in the whole slayer duties would more than equal Giles' teenage dabbling in demonology. Like he says in the last but of the ep. " I watch and I listen"...wasnt that almost the exact same phrase that Buffy's first watcher used in the movie?

..and besides with the council gone its not like there's going to be a rigorous entrance exam.

Finally I'm able to read what you guys have been talking about! Watched eps 7-11 on Friday night and loved them, glad everyone on here is enjoying it (you'd think I was involved with the show or something!).

Not sure about the whole Giles thing, that was my first thought too.

So how are they going to be able to get rid of the evil then? Lots of happy positive thought?

If they carry on this way though it's going to be a great season to finish on.

12:26 / 30.01.03
Trailer for the next episode is available now, looks a bit vicious doesn't it??

The Killer in Me?

Faith's on the way too episode 16 or 18 right?

Rev. Orr
01:23 / 31.01.03
Ep 18 apparently, after some Angel hijinks which can't be mentioned here.

01:27 / 19.02.03
Well... that was a pretty kick-ass last shot.

And Spike throwing his jacket on like a cape. Great moment.

01:55 / 19.02.03
I fucking shit myself. What a suck in....literally...you're just hanging on Buffy's breath and then GREAT JEEEORB! What the fuck do they do now?

More swearing....must swear more.

Hey, where the fuck was Giles? And where there always this many entendres on this show?

FUCK!

At least next week's trailer didn't have any whinging girl-pop. But that "Deadliest Home Videos" is just as cunting bad.

"Waaaawaaawaawaawaawaawaawaawaaaaaawaah!"
-The song from the commercial for this week's episode.

05:23 / 19.02.03
wow... suprizingly i didn't get worked up over this episode like i usually do (cussing at the screen, tossing ink pens at it, much like it seems Ben Birdie did this time (but he tossed in a homestar ref so go Ben))... it was good but once again it seemed like Buffy was calling her self Human... isn't she not quite human anymore? i mean did i miss something? i mean, she came back last season and like Spike could hurt her "you came back wrong love" and all that, did i just miss something? i don't know... i drink a lot... can't wait for next week... damn i need to stop drooling

07:06 / 19.02.03

Yup another good episode, glad Spikes got his old coat back that short greenish thing wasn't working at all

And the last shot was pretty cool very Lord of the Rings, makes you wonder how they're going to finish the season though??

I was looking forward to the next episode with Andrews documentary but the trailer doesn't look that great.

From an interview with good ol Spikey -

James Marsters talked with E! Online about the rest of the season 7.

"The end of the season will be very romantic and that's all I can say," he said. "The Buffy-Spike thing is going to end very romantically and very dramatically."

He also discussed what that means to his character and whether or not the pair will be getting hot under the collar again.

"We're talking about something larger than sex, but it doesn't preclude sex.I don't want to spill the beans. For the first time, I know something that will happen, and I don't want to blow it.

"It's both the coolest thing and the worst idea I've ever heard of. It's the last thing I ever would have thought about doing, but when you say it, it almost seems inevitable."

What does he mean? Anyone have any ideas, how about a Slayer baby first thing I thought of and possibly also the worst idea I can think of

It was established that, contrary to what Spike and Buffy assumed, she had come back fully human (or as human as the Slayer is, see other Heretical Musings thread). His chip didn't recognise her because her death and resurrection had rescrambled her molecular configuration, or some such nonsense - so, different molecular structure, but still human? That's possibly the shittest explanation for anything ever, but that's the middle of season 6 for you.

Yotsuba & Benjamin!
10:54 / 19.02.03
My God, Bear. It all makes sense. It explains why they'd introduce Wood with that origin ("I didn't know slayers could have kids") and it would explain what could kill the first. Pure love and a wicked combo of evil and good. Fluid-wise.

Oh, she'll get that evil in her one way or another *wink!*

But seriously...I can see this happening.

Flyboy: The trailer NEVER looks that great. They're worst representations of TV shows since the Simpsons commercials. ("Are there any scenes with Homer and beer?" "One." "Run it!")

But, again, no girl pop so, yay.

Regrettable Juvenilia
11:42 / 19.02.03
Er... I didn't say anything about the trailer. And girl pop can be ace.

Check yourself, before you wreck y'self.

Yotsuba & Benjamin!
11:48 / 19.02.03
whoops. sorry. that was bear too. that spoiler space jammed me up fiercely. and hey, i like some girl pop. but that song was just not my cup of tea. it might have much musiacl merit that i'm missing, i'm sure, but its total lack of any kind of connection to the actual episode is clouding my judgement with rage.

"Ever thought about teen suicide? Then ROCK OUT GIRL POWER to this weeks Buffy The Vampire Slayer! (And keep it LOCKED ON for another episode of the RED HOT SMASH HIT Abby!)"

Bear
11:50 / 19.02.03
It was me that mentioned the trailer I'm sure the episode will be great just because I love Andrew!

I doubt the baby thing will happen but they obviously need some major mojo to defeat the First. Wish Buffy had taken that extra power though, wanted to see her all superbuffy.

But it's all ok, Faith will be back soon.

Tamayyurt
13:55 / 19.02.03
You guys have pretty much said everything I was gonna say but about the legion of ubervamps. I think Willow at full power (which she's going to have to be) will be a lot more effective than fucking Gandalf. She can probably take out half of those things.

RadJose
07:08 / 20.02.03
i too love Andrew and found myself asking where he was this last episode... but i DID miss the first 15min due to my roommates girlfriend and my forgetfulness

Bear
08:36 / 20.02.03
Yeah you missed him he was near the beginning, he was baking a cake and he'd made a big board showing the First in various forms.

So is there an episode of Buffy next week or is there a break?

Regrettable Juvenilia
09:11 / 20.02.03
Off-topic: I just found a quote that explains everything that was wrong with Season 6. Apparently Marti Noxon once said that her vision of Buffy was "Party of Five, with monsters". Aiiiieeee...

Bear
11:52 / 20.02.03
Best to forget that Season 6 ever happened..

I imagine that things are really going to kick off after next weeks episode because after that there's only about 5 episodes left right? Just read that next week Willow heads for LA - boy oh boy

Regrettable Juvenilia
13:01 / 20.02.03
What worries me is that the reports I've read of Season 7 suggest that not all the bad bits from Season 6 have been excised, and that some of the retconning that has been done to try and get the show back on track has merely fudged things even further (eg, Spike and Buffy's 'relationship'). Part of the problem is that a lot of the more negative aspects of Buffy's personality (that have been there all along, and previously helped humanise her even when she was being annoying) are now dominant and don't necessarily seem to be *intended* to be unsympathetic character traits (self-obsession, neglect of friends, misplaced priorities, constant whining).

Hopefully Faith will give her a much needed slap.

Bear
13:08 / 20.02.03
Well yeah Buffy has been getting a bit over the top on her friends, maybe they're trying to show that she's really stressed but she's not coming across too nice.

I think that Faith idea is possibly the best one I've heard -

Buffy opens the door
*SLAP*
"Sort yourself out B"

From what I've heard Giles turns into a right bastard next week too.

Still like I've said I've really enjoyed this season.

Flyboy- (self-obsession, neglect of friends, misplaced priorities, constant whining)

On the contrary. Buffy is anything but self-obsessed. If anything she's the most clear thinking, realistic one of the group. Her priorities are firmly placed on The First. She's neglecting her friends because she's the only one who seems to realize that play time is over. And I actually don't remember her whining once this season. She's become almost a motivational speaker/drill sergeant. If anything She going to quickly put Faith in her place and put her to work if she walks into the base of operations (no longer referred to as "home") with that 5x5 bullshit.

FinderWolf
14:02 / 22.02.03
"...that 5x5 bullshit"!!! *LOL* Imp!! I love it!!!

Anyway, so who's up for discussing the most recent episodes??? I missed the last two (the 'everyone has a date' one and the one after that where Spike does some cool shit, apparently). Aarrgh!! Give me spoilers!!!!

Saint Keggers
02:16 / 23.02.03
The final scene reminded me of the Army of Darkness undead marching scene. I was expecting one of them to say in a highpitched brit accent: "Im getting out of here!"

I found the Asian S.I.T. cant speak english concept from the last ep. annoying. It seemed that she was just a plot device thrown in to get some jokes. Although the stick figures drawing was funny it just seemed sooo damn forced.

Just posting this up cause I thougth some fellow nerds might find this interesting -

It's an article written by some guy from the Guardian on why he thinks Buffy Rocks

Buffy!

Also would any of the London Buffy nerds be up for going to see James Marsters band when the play in June?

Antoher bit of Buffy news today, looks like Eliza might not be getting her on spin-off show, well not Buffy related at least -

Comingsoon.net :

Eliza Dushku has been cast as the lead in Fox's untitled John Feldman drama pilot for director Phillip Noyce.

Variety.com :

Eliza Dushku has signed on to topline Fox's untitled grad student project. Dushku, known for her steady gigs on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," has inked for the lead role in the 20th Century Fox TV/Original TV untitled project. The drama from Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious") and Jon Feldman ("American Dreams"), revolves around a woman who graduates from college and discovers that she's able to save lives by changing the course of events. Cohen is set to direct. Feldman said Dushku embodied all of the characteristics his lead character had. "Eliza was always the prototype for the role," Feldman said. "To actually get the prototype is an amazing thing. She's incredibly smart, sexy and strong off-camera as well as on. She is in every sense of the word the lead," he said. Dushku, who recently signed with CAA for representation, starred last year on the silver screen in "City by the Sea" and "The New Guy." She is managed by The Firm.
