Am I the only one who, in a trainwreck kind of way, desperately wants to know what ShadowSax actually thinks we should call former rapists?
In ShadowSax's defense, I think he's saying they are human beings. I have to agree with that point. Although I disagree with his defense of He Who Must Not Be Named, it is true that there's a tendency to demonize people who have been convicted of doing bad things in the past and to make it impossible for them to live a life after the fact. In the US, in particular, this tendency has disproportionately affected black and brown men.
I tend to have quite a bit of skepticism about the "justice" available in the US justice system, which I suppose is why I find myself still able to rationally engage with ShadowSax, whose main beef is with the US family law system, even though he and I fundamentally disagree about many issues. |
