Yo Sax, I saw my mate again over the weekend, and if you do have another story idea, he's definitely up for contributing. You'll have to email it to me so that I can print and post it - the fucking luddite has no email facilities whatsoever. He'll probably draw the whole thing in wattle and daub oh hessian, or something.
As for me, got started on page 3 last night. I've got no other art commitments for the next couple of weeks so i hope to be able to get quite a lot done. Don't know when i'll actually be able to email anything though - i need to make a trip to the copy shop to shrink 'em before they'll fit on my mate's scanner.

I posted that before noticing this thread that the Fool started. Jade, maybe you'd like my friend to have a go at your script? Seeing as you're now without artist and Sax has got one story in the pipeline already.
Disclaimer: Not wanting to be uncharitable to him, but he's not the most reliable person in the world - this is the same guy who bailed out of putting up an exhibition with me last month. I'm only saying this because I'm sure you won't want to have your script not get off the ground again. On the plus side, he is extremely talented.

PS. - to the Fool - I feel slightly bad about you having to pull out as it was me who originally PM'd you to join, I hope I didn't make you feel unduly obliged. Good luck with all your other projects anyway. Can't charge your sigil right now as I'm at work, but I will do later.

That's cool by me. The story I had hasn't made it into written form yet, and I'm away for the next couple of weeks. So it sounds like a good idea.

And I can't wait to see this stuff, Lentil. But don't let me rush you.

Well, we'll have to wait to see what Jade wants to do anyway. You out there, oh stealthy turquoise one?

Yeah, I'm here. I'm just not sure if there's still time to do anything... Lentil, if you're up to try and draw the thing, I can e-mail the script to you tomorrow (don't have it here right now). It isn't an 8-pager, it's a 12-pager, a story in two parts, first part: 4-pages, second part 8-pages.
If you're willing to do the thin, let me know, ok? Thanks for the interest, mates.

Jade, check back a few posts - it's actually a friend of mine who was asking me if there were any scripts knocking about that he could have a go at. I don't really think I'd have time to commit to a 12 page story, and somewhere further back in the thread moriarty said that the first comic wouldn't feature more than one story by any artist, so even if I did do it, it wouldn't be in this issue.
I'll speak to him tonight, he's unemployed at the moment so i reckon he could get the first part done in time, I could maybe arrange something with him so that we share the duties, maybe i do the second part or whatever. Or were you hoping to get both into the first comic?
I'll post later once I've talked to him.

(I hope I'm not being too optimistic by assuming that we'll manage more than one of these babies!)

Well, I thought a 12-pager wouldn't be that much bigger than an 8-pager, but if that's the case, the second part of the story could appear in the second issue of the zine (like if I could wait that much...)
Sh*t, too bad I don't have'm here or I could send it right away...

HOKAY!

I have spoken my friend and explained the deets of your script - are you up for this? I told him that he'd need to get at least the first part done sharpish. I'm sorry that I can't guarantee having the whole 12 pages in time for the first issue, but hell, you never know. I'll totally understand if you want to try to sort something else out, but if not, my email's on my profile and I will snail mail the script to him soon as I get it.

moriarty - do you have (however vague it might be) a completion date in mind? I reckon I can be ready to go in about a month.

Mate, I'm sending you the script right now.
Forget it for today... problems with the diskette... Aaaagh!!

Re: completion date for first issue - yes, good point. Having not spent much time on the board of late, I'd been assuming that Jenny's initial jaunt into the popular consciousness would almost be upon us, and that Flyboy and myself would have to wait until issue 2 to get our (heavily delayed) wares displayed.

We're like a Warren Ellis/Frank Quitely collaboration, aren't we... Er, sort of.

Anyway, jumping the gun a bit but since I have big Nemo aka Nelson Evergreen's permission and have discovered the joys of image hosting, I thought I should share a couple of the character sketches he's sent me based on my script. They've made me a very happy man indeed.

This is Bradley.

And this is Clea - and yes, her t-shirt really does say 'What Would Chomsky Do?'

The Evergreen version of Jenny will follow if someone asks very nicely. It rocks...

Hi everyone. I'm sorry I haven't been around much recently. Things have become very dire in Moriartyville.

The completion date has always been when we have enough material to print. If someone else wants to suggest one, feel free.

On a personal level, I have this massive portfolio to complete for school and I wonly be able to complete Captain Zoom's story for at least another 3 to 4 weeks. I might sneak in another page or two for the portfolio, though. Two birds, one stone.

So, keep on rockin' in the free world, kids.

I certainly did. I didn't realise they had come from him and not you, otherwise i would have let you know earlier. I like them a lot actually, it's a cool idea, I kinda wish I was drawing it! You're not too shabby in the art department either, I must say. Anyway, the whole kaboodle has been forwarded to my good friend "Panoramic Head", he emailed me today to say that he's got it and is ready to dive in. All systems go!

Hey, that guy 'Bradley' looks so much like the complete personification of "gig-going hipster" .. he just has to acquire tight trousers, converse shoes and a Royal Trux T-shirt..

I'm slowly ploughing my way through page 3 (of about 7) by the way, though I can't be sure yet whether or not it's gonna be any good..

You didn't ask, but I'm still going to give it to you cos you were nice about the other drawings...

This is Shifter/Jenny Everywhere as originally conceived by Nelson:

And this is a more recent version with my nefarious influence at play (well, okay, so I added a parka jacket...):

Hopefully this will encourage others to keep plugging away...

Yes, yes you must. I'm waiting you know. Actually, I'm quite raring to go at present, I even found some paper which is quite essential to the drawing and painting of images, I find. *happy*

Hey, I've got some finished comics (short things, the longest is 8 pages) but they are not 'shifter comics. Could they be included in this or would it be outside the intention of the project?

I have a technical question, can anybody help?

I smudged some ink on one of my pages, and used some bleedproof gouache that I had lying around as whiteout, but now if i try to ink over that area the ink flakes off. I can't quite understand why this should be as both media are water based. It's not a massive problem as I can sort it out when I scan it, but can anyone suggest a better substance for making corrections? For future reference as much as anything else.

I can't remember for the life of me how I used to sort out cock ups 'Before Photoshop'. White acrylic, possibly... tippex, even. Alas, you don't get the most even of surfaces with either.

Sax

Should be some Shifter panels from the lovely Lentil's art for my script here:
