Although it's that whole "assuming everyone else has the same cultural reference points" thing, isn't it, which never ends well, really, however well-intentioned it may have been.

If there's anyone left here who can identify the source, that would be... inspiring?

Williams?

I know it's probably one of those, "if you have to ask" kind of things, but I have to ask. Are you talking about a comics thread or something? I'd read those threads more often, but whenever I do I'm instantly confused, I feel like a fourth-grader walking in on grad school. I believe my comics experience probably extends to the equivalent Jethro Bodine level of math.
Of course, you are probably being oblique (there's that word again) and humorous in making a comment, so yeah, it probably is one of those "if you have to ask" things.

If you don't read the Barbelith comics forum on a daily basis, Tsuga, how can you possibly expect to be taken seriously in your sexual or (as if there's a difference!) business life?

I hope you're not insinuating that my contributions to those threads were meant in anything other than utmost deadly earnest. Because, as a person with a strong interest in both progressive politics and comparative religion—not to mention as a scholar of pop music—I find any aspersions to that effect highly offensive.

I would just like to say that David Sim's small but irritating impact on the Comics makes me want to shoot myself in the head. He's like a cylon-- end the debate once and he comes back again in an identical body.

Barb-annoyed with self for using the ashtray instead of the syringe in the latest episode of the TAGE in Creation; such an elementary, schoolboy error, which seems certain to have dire consequences, going forward.

Well, you don't know what's in the syringe yet. It's a bit of a gamble either way.

I call upon all good Barbelithers to come post in the TAGE.

To be fair, that thread did elicit a bit of WTF until my brane caught up with Seth's latest nick. Also, the idea that one or more of the resident failtrolls with little imagination and axes to grind could start a bunch of copycat threads and then be all "but Seth's allowed to do it! Why are you picking on me? It's not faaaaaiiiir!" when asked to pack it in is not, alas, beyond the realms of possibility.

I wish the pages for each of the fora included the [prev.] notes on people's suitnames with the "started by," actually-- I had pretty much the same reaction at first until I realized it was Seth. I can see arguments from both sides, particularly given that Haus's presence and reaction was quite delayed.

Lighthearted comedy. Sideways looks at life. Not funny, maybe, but not serious either.

Mordant: To be fair, that thread did elicit a bit of WTF until my brane caught up with Seth's latest nick.

Yeah, okay, but by this point the nature of the thread had already been established.

For a moment, it was like everything that the "I'm sorry - sorry that you've got no sense of humour" knobbers had ever claimed about Policy was actually proving accurate. Feeds directly into their hands, innit.

Ah, Alex. What would we all do without your fearless quest to speak truth to power? I'm sure that anyone who cares to read the supplementary material will recognise that your words arise, as ever, from a passionate commitment to the cause of righteousness, and not from a six-pack of Red Stripe and a lackluster shedual on the telly.

That's a bit unfair, TtS. As far as I can see A's G is saying that we, perhaps, shouldn't get worked up about things that haven't happened yet and aren't guaranteed to.

Well, I wasn't worked up when I wrote that but I'm getting slightly worked up now.

That post was a response to another poster getting a bit cross about some comments in Policy regarding the Hitmanning Haus thread. Personally I don't see any problem with it, but was outlining in more detail why one might. I find it difficult to see why I'm being pulled up on a perfectly reasonable comment.

Erm, I'm the one that everyone seems to be moaning about, being all killjoy just for asking for some clarification of why the thread was happening. You'd think I'd locked and deleted the thread, stolen your suits and burned yer blogs for all the fuss it's caused.

I'm barbannoyed that the Grant's influence on your life thread has been locked. Grant, in this case, being Grant Morrison.

While it's true that Barbelith isn't a Morrison fan-site etc etc, it does seem a bit much to shut down the possibility of this discussion taking place in its own dedicated Comics thread. Deviant's first post may not be brilliantly written and is a bit skimpy on detail (maybe this is a language thing - ze mentions living in France prior to moving to the UK, then Africa), but it's not mean-spirited, or offensive. And it's not as if ze has proposed a suite of separate threads, each focused on how, say, Zoids, or Really & Truly, or those ghosted issues of Millar's Authority have changed one's life. Isn't Barbelith a broad enough church, and a robust enough community to allow Deviant to talk about this with whoever would like to join hir? If nobody wanted to, the thread would have died anyway. If they did, it would still have been a single thread which any uninterested reader could happily ignore.

Regrettable Juvenilia

I don't understand why the thread was locked, to be honest. It would have been good to give deviant at least the opportunity to clarify who "Grant" was, since it's not made clear in hir first post that it's Grant Morrison being refered to.

Thought about mentioning this in the Policy, but... couldn't be bothered, really.
