You mean there is a football game going on at the moment?

I hadn't heard anything about it.

Haus Of Pain
15:59 / 20.06.06
Yeah there is, well there was 2 in fact. Germany beat Equador 3-0 and Poland were victorious over Cosat Rica 2-1. The Germany match was quite exciting really and relatively clean compared to Poland/Costa Rica that resulted in 10 bookings (yellow cards).
More on this eve at 8pm gmt. I'll be watching England v Sweden whilst eating pizza in my "double damage" t-shirt avoiding the sun at my mums.

I hear that the great troll god Ro'ney is prepared to ward off the Nordic Invaders in tonights game of kick-ball. This gives great happiness to the Anglo-Saxon peoples, yes?

Too much football-related excitement for an anti-World Cup thread, people. Get a room. Or a thread. Of your own. With a wide screen tele and lots of beer. And some Ribena for little Pato Banton.

Went to a lecture today where the guy suddenly drew our attention, à propos of nothing at all, to the motif on his tie that said: England expects. Wearisome.

Lama glama
18:42 / 20.06.06
Maybe it wasn't about football. If you had asked him, he might have told you that "England expects strong economic growth in conjunction with lower inflation."

Or "England expects a rip-roaringly fantastic Doctor Who finalé."

I'm currently listening to Phantom of the Opera incredibly loud just to drown out the soccer noises from next door. People are horribly inconsiderate when it comes to having a loud television for sporting events.

I'll be watching England v Sweden.

And I'm a 37th level Magic-User who's been arrested on a number of occasions for exposing myself to the children in the local McDonald's.

Perhaps, Banton, you and I hav something in common.

Yeah, what's with all the football-lovin' in the football-h8rz thread, eh?

This should have been designated a SAFE SPACE, goddammit!!!

This would never have happened if we'd kept the original title, you know.

Perhaps, Banton, you and I hav something in common.

I doubt that Alex, I may like the kids but I don't eat McDonalds.

As much as I hate the World Cup, that England v Sweden game was a nail biter! Second Sweden was terrible defending by England, but we're actually starting to look like a side to be reckoned with.

P.S I hate football etc...

Yesterday for the first time since it all started, I went into the city and was surprised to see a lot of people with the flag being painted on their arms or cheeks. It looked a bit forced. Because the flag was so tiny, maybe a bit more than stamp sized (oh lets not overdo it!). If I was to show my sympathies, I´d at least have the whole cheek covered.

And yesterday, I met my first Barbeloid in real life ever (Hello skolld ), and we were interrupted several times, by honking cars or howling fans half naked walking past our café.

I did the we thing too yesterday

When all the cars honked past the café, I said to skolld, "sounds like we´ve won".

as I've definitely said, i hate football.....

but did you see that cross from cole to gerrard? that was some beautiful curving parabolic well placed on the head hsit right there. i was climbing the walls and hooting in time with the neighbours.

does this happen to any other football haters?/ i basically hate it, but get peer pressured into baying like a wolf whenever that 'rooooooney' chant whips up.

bloody football.

I know what you mean Bitch, I also kind of hate the football thing but have found myself enjoying the World Cup or at least I've enjoyed the matches.
Totally agree about Cole's cross, what a corker! Shame Owen hasn't really been able to get into the tournament and now he's bust his knee.

Any news on his knee by the way? Will he be coming home or ploughing on?

I do hate football...

09:31 / 21.06.06
i know what you mean, i definitely hate football. did you see the slo-mo of owen's knee as it popped-out and popped back in again when he went down so hookerstyle? it was like - pop! and your world cup is over. amazing really - soccer superstar at eighteen, absolutely fucked for walking to the shops at twenty-seven.

it's a shame because who could forget his magnificent surging goal against argentina a couple tournaments ago? that was another climb the walls moment where the delinquent soccergods grabbed my unathletic arse and threw me into the mass-hysteria of three lions-yelling joy. gah, i feel so ashamed...

next up: Sunday afternoon at four pm! ave it!

I know poor old Owen. Wasn't quite sure why the hell they pulled Ferdinand off for Saul Campbell, he was having a great game. Much as I like Campbell as a defender he seems a little off the game at the moment. maybe he just needs some time to get back into his swing, reckon they should put him in the starting line up for Ecuador. Although I hate footbal so who cares...me...

God Football is shite.

Ferdinand apparently had a minor groin strain.

It's the least he deserves, as a footballer, and therefore just as bad as a Luftwaffe flying ace, after all.

Agreed I think I will conjour groin strain on Ecuador!

Pato - you do really need to get your 'football hating' in gear - it's SOL Campbell, as in "not content with plastering football crap over the back pages, various newspapers have exploited Sol Campbell's troubled private life to insert unwanted football related nonsense where it doesn't belong."

Regrettable Juvenilia

I think even knowing that information is tantamount to being "in on" Stalin's purges.

I did wonder around then if Campbell was the elusive 'gay Premiership player'; I think I'd like him even more if it were so.

Oh yeah, Michael Owen is injured for five months.

Hate football (not really.)

Sorry was to excited about hating football, I will refer to him as The Sol in future. Many Apologies.
Would really like to see Campbell starting in a few games though, he's a bloody good player and it would be a good fingers up to the tabloids seeing as they're obsessed with his mind not being on the game because "Sol's got a screw lose". Twattage!

3pm gmt Portugal v Mexico. Look out!

Football hatred...aaaaarrrggghh etc.

how do people who like footbaal and who support the england team deal with the fact that england are so rubbishy? theyre not even bad enough to be comedy value, theyre just rubbishy. how do they carry on believing that the england team will actually win the world cup of footbaal when the MINUTE that the second english player kicked the ball into the net i was thinking 'of course, sweden will score another goal in the next three minutes'. and lo it came to pass. you can just call me cassandra. and that is what really annoys me about the world cup, its just this great big emperors parade, and those of us who care almost as much as we know about the whole farrago are endlessly cast in the position of the child, saying 'but waitacottonfuckin', this team are really rubbishy' in the face of the ENTIRE NATION. and yet i keep watching, waiting for them to get good, because i sometimes think that i only dislike footbaal because i enjoy being a contrarian and besides gary vinegar says theyre a very talented team. but really, after a while you have to ask yourself, if theyre so blinking talented, then why are they so rubbish?

Haus Of Pain
11:53 / 21.06.06
Well I think the main problem is something that has plagued the England team for years. Basically it's full of very strong individual players that don't mesh together particularly well. Lampard, for example, plays outstanding football for Chelsea and sets goal opportunities up beautifully. However sat further back in the England line up, he just doesn't seem to have the intuitive relationship with 'our' boys upfront.

I hate it though...

Sol's not meant to be the one. Highlights allegedly on Cole and JJ these days.

What 'cos of the phones thing? I thought that was a stunt by vodaphone to save the sinking ship. Fucking tabloids. All that 'Are Sol' shit in The Sun was repugnant. Can't they just leave him alone and focus on his football ability.

Anyone catch the Portugal v Mexico game? What a CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACKER!

I obviously didn't enjoy it etc etc...

Banton, there's a perfectly good World Cup thread over in Games and Gameplay, where you can discuss the wretched thing in a more relevant and welcoming fashion. It's the bright orange forum. You can't miss it.

People keep asking me at work how various matches are going. I stare at them indifferently for a few moments and they quickly catch on. Is there much more of this thing left?

Llama, don't think I'd be welcome over there as I hate football. Although I did enjoy Agentina v Holland last night, very skillful game involving lots of men kicking a small sphere around a garden whilst a man shouted at them and showed everyone his 2 birthday cards. Very nice chaps by all account too.

Fucking hating the ASDA adverts at the moment - the underlying assumption is that everyone not only loves football, but would find shopping more fun if it was couched in the terms of football.

I would very much like to explain that this is not the case to whatever ad firm produced this campaign. Using a chrome baseball bat, an electric eel and a bathtub if at all possible.

Hell, I'd love to do similar to the bosses at ASDA (those fin Wallmart folks) for matters entirely unrelated to fcootball...
