I just can't muster any enthusiasm for this, especially since there are ALREADY hints of the next Big Event coming down the pike.

Oh, and fair money has the New Warriors being the ones that get slaughtered (the "reality show" thing is their latest shtick)

yeah, you didn't think that was from Civil War, did you?

Me? No, I was confused why it was in this thread.

FUCKING GODDAMMIT. Do they HAVE to go and kill the New Warriors for absolutely no reason???? I AM SO SICK OF THIS SHIT.

Hahaha!

That read like a Shaftoe post!

At least they got Sc(k)ottie Young to do his darndest to make them look cool again. I actually bought that last (LAST?) mini series because it looked so damn good. If super thin cartoon line art is your kind of thing. It'll be pretty odd if it really is New Warriors behind all this and Marvel's just grittyized what was clearly made up for a six issue larf.

Okay, uh, sorry...I realize that it doesn't ACTUALLY matter if the "New Warriors" "die." I guess I always knew deep down that some day, after they'd killed off everyone else's favorite second-string characters who can't sustain a book they'd come for mine as well. I just didn't think it'd be so soon...I mean god, isn't Silver Sable still kicking around? They haven't blown up the Inhumans in a while, have they?

And what does it say as the expression of an ethos that a bunch of wacky kids who get together to make the world a better place and eat pizza at the Crash Pad get explodo'd for their troubles? Way to go, Marvel, I sure don't believe in the power of youthful idealism anymore YOU HAVE WON THAT BATTLE.

They just killed Alpha Flight in like 2 panels. New Avengers wasn't it?

John Octave
16:52 / 21.02.06
Yeah, but Millar's been promising there's a new Alpha Flight series around the corner, so, y'know, it'll either be a new team, or this off-panel death gets turned around real quick when it turns out the team that died were actually, like, LMDs or somesuch.

As for the possible killing of the New Warriors, Quesada's been rambling on Newsarama for some time now about how he wants to kill Speedball, so this may be the fruition of that. He seems to have some kind of anti-Speedball vendetta that I thought was just joking banter, but possibly not. All I know is thanks to Quesada's comments, somewhere right now Steve Ditko is crying into his copy of Atlas Shrugged. And unpublished Mr. A pages.

There's already a built-in out for bringing back the "original" Alpha Flight members, thanks to the last series, which makes killing them off even MORE pointless.

There are just too few superheroes named after drug-cocktails.

What is this "built-in out" of which you speak, Mario?

Maybe Speedball is the one who kills a bunch of people when his powers get the better of him.

Of course, none of it would be his fault in a years time, once someone notices his white sideburns.

At the end of the last series, a time travel paradox caused temporal duplicates of Guardian, Vindicator, Snowbird, Shaman, Northstar, Aurora and Puck. The "current" versions of Guardian, Vindicator, Snowbird, Shaman, and Puck (along with Earthmover) were last seen on a mission in outer space... it's entirely possible that the batch we saw in New Avengers are the dupes.

Man New Warriors fuck things up good.

Here's my hope. It'll be a cool series where our favorite superheroes get to interact with each other, won't mess up anyone's favorite titles too bad or for too long, and it's being written and drawn by capable people.

And I think Captain America's gonna be really cool in this. Here's hoping.

Amazing Spider-Man 529 is the starter I guess. Or the 1st "Road to Civil War" book. Spidey and Mary Jane are living with Tony Stark, and Spidey's calling him boss throughout the issue, but I just rolled with the punches and can worry about the back story later I guess.

So Tony makes Spidey a way too hi tech suit, it's bulletproof, allows him to glide (looked like flying to me), monitor emergency frequencies, monitor people's heartbeats, all kinds of stuff, like a mini Iron Man suit.

The last few pages ouch on the Civil War stuff. Spidey asks about why Tony gav him the suit and Tony tells him that he feels they have a lot in common. He wants Spidey to be his protege. He also makes Spidey swear to him that he'll have his back in the near future because something big is about to go down. He also needs Spidey to keep this info to himself and not to tell the rest of the team. Spidey asks, "Even Steve? (Captain America)". And Tony tells him yes, even Steve. Spidey agrees and Tony gives him some papers so he can get up to date on what he's talking about, and it's a letter addressed to Tony to testify before a closed Senate metahumans invistigaton committee on a subject of national security.

(by the way they don't really show those extra arm thingies on the costume inside the actual book)

Wow! Does he now have the spider-like ability to talk in parentheses? Or is that the suit?

new spidey suit in theory: dumb dumb dumb idea

new spidey suit in action: holy shit!

...though I can't see Spidey sticking (no pun intended) with Tony throughout all this civil war business....

All topflight Marvel sooperheroes should have Iron Person suits.

new Spidey-artist Ron Garney actually managed to make that Iron Spider costume look kind of cool (to my eyes, for the first time) in the new Amazing Spidey issue.

Peter will side with Tony Stark at first, then get a bad taste in his mouth because Tony sides with the gov't., then switch sides. It's a foregone conclusion.

Is it me or is it not in Spider-Man's personality to agree with Tony in the first place?

Jack Denfeld

Yeah, Petey seems awful "yes sir" here. I haven;t been following his title though, so maybe he owes Tony a solid for something.

Actually, that's kind of lazy Spidey art isn't it? Looks like he drew Spidey in the normal skintight suit and then just colored half metal. You can still see the muscles and ligaments and stuff on the metal side.

FinderWolf

well, he owes Tony a solid for putting him, MJ and Aunt May up at Avengers Tower, and for building him this new costume.

JMS has justifies Peter's 'yes' to Stark with the perspective that Peter is really lacking in father/mentor figures, and that Peter has come to see Tony as a sort of older brother/father figure that Peter is sorely lacking in his life. So that's JMS' take on why Peter would go with Stark...for a while, at least. This story point sounds somewhat reasonable to me, although we'll have to see how the story progresses.

Could someone sum up what the whole schism is here? Why is Captain America opposite Iron Man?

Jack Denfeld
02:47 / 01.03.06
Because Iron Man is a government stooge, and Cap is a defender of Justice! Read above posts for Tony keeping secrets from the rest of the team, especially Steve.

Tony is also a member of the Marvel Illuminati.

*snoring, snoring, snort*

What? What? Where am I? Oh, is this crossover still happening? It wasn't a dream? You mean Spider-Man's costume is going to change for good, that we're seeing long-lasting, permanent changes to a character? From Marvel? Oh good. 'Cause Marvel's so good at permanent changes. They'll stick to their guns, or should that be "stick to their organic web-shooters"?
