I always thought it was pronounced mux-yuz-putter-lick. I seem to remember reading that somewhere as a kid.

I've always pronounced it mixy-plix. Did he ever feature in the cartoons? He made it into Lois and Clark once didn't he?

from the wikipedia entry;

Mister Mxyzptlk (roughly pronounced Miks-yez-pit-lik, also nicknamed Mxy) is a fictional supervillain who appears in DC Comics' Superman comic books. He was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and first appeared in Superman (Vol. 1) #30 (September 1944).

Hehe thank you. The lack of sleep talking.

Benny, he made it to Lois and Clark? How did they do that? And for that matter, did he ever appear in Smallville (the TV series, I mean)? Seems like one of the harder villains to translate to live action.

Mxy has appeared in most versions of Superman, yeah. He was on Superfriends, he was voiced by Gilbert Gottfried on the Dini/Timm animated series. Apparently he was on the live action Superboy series looking like he fell right out of the comics, crazy orange outfit and purple bowler and everything.

Yes, also he appeared on Lois & Clark, where he was played by, I shit you not, Howie Mandel.

He also appeared on Smallville as some Russian foreign exchange student with telekinetic or bad luck powers or somesuch. Yes. It was terrible.

Yes, also he appeared on Lois & Clark, where he was played by, I shit you not, Howie Mandel.

I always thought he was supposed to be Vandal Savage (that particular Lois and Clark baddie, not Howie Mandel). Ah well, another childhood memory of whacky immortal cannibals ruined.

#6 is out tomorrow (Thurs.!), I hear. Brian K. Vaughn listed it on his Top 5 Comics on the week. Can't wait....

This is bad of me and I normally wouldn't but....

The comp issues arrived today and I've just finished it. It's a thing of perfect beauty. The best issue yet and you're all going to love it.

When you say 'April 2007 for the book release,' you mean for the paperback/whatever collection of 6 or so issues, right?

'Cause #6 is definitely out tomorrow. I'm especially curious to see it since Morrison will be channeling the grief over the death of his own father as Supes deals with the death of Pa Kent. I expect it to be a very personal, emotional issue, and it's rare we see Supes dealing with something like grief. Ma and Pa Kent are still both alive in the regular DCU (though the recent 'let's do everything like the first 2 Donner Supes films' trend in the DCU - Fortress of Solitude as it was done in the movies, General Zod as he was in the movies, etc. - plus Brad Meltzer's tease in his JLA #0 - means Supes will be losing Pa in the mainstream DCU soon, too).

Before reading #6, build all the bile, hate and self loathing you can muster, then let this issue's soothing subject melt them all away. A lovely way to kick off 2007!

A warning though. When those feelings melt, they'll melt through your eyes in salty droplets.

Prepare accordingly.

To be ultra-clear, comics are out on Thursday, not Wed., in the US because of the 1-day bump from the New Year's day holiday.

Brian K. Vaughn listed it on his Top 5 Comics on the week.

I wonder if this is necessarily a recommendation? I mean where is it, number 4? And what else is out this week?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Anybody know off the top of their head what Ultra-Boy's alias was the first time he showed up in Twentieth Century Smallville? I'd swear it shows up this issue but I'm probably wrong.

Lana Lang & Pete Ross = Kick. Ass.

Ne're mind, it was "Gary Crane." But, you know, some referencing of classic Legion arrivals, eh wot?

"That's why i brought my Hyperpoon. This time we'll spear it and chain it with 5-D snares until our teammates get here with a Tesseract Cage."

okay. now THIS is the kind of dialogue we should be reading in a superman comic on a "monthly" basis. not once in a blue reboot.

Mr Tricks

I'm just wondering . . . HYDRA or CERBERUS, or both.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
21:04 / 04.01.07
The latest Busiek issue of, ah, Superman, no adjectives, is out today as well and fired off a ton of random Luthor weaponry, including a Bizarro Swamp. Thought that was a step in the right direction.

But All-Star! My biggest complaint was that I had a bit of troule grasping where this fell in terms of the rest of the series, plot-wise, but I think I got it from the second read-through.

More iterations of the S-shielf, my favourite being the gleaming "broken yin/yang."

The golden skinned heid yin of the Super Squad is the Superman from the End of Time.

Mr Tricks

Wasn't he the "Superman Prime" that exited from his retreat in the Sun at the end of DC 1 Million?

hence the "Ha" when Superman asked what decendant he was.

FinderWolf

Exactly, Mr. Tricks. We've seen two of these Supermen in Grant's DC One Million (3 yellow ovals on top of each of other and the Golden Superman with that broken yin-yang you mention; had never really thought of it as yin-yang thing but that's pretty cool).

I really, really love all the DC One Million crossovers so far in this book. I never expected to actually see the Superman Squad fight the Chronovore. I just thought that was a really cool throwaway line, but here it is.

Total agreement about Lana and Pete, also.

me don't want this horrible comic, no.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:41 / 05.01.07
Gah! I want to just go on and on...Lana and Pete. Lana's line in particular, and how it runs up against Lois's relationship with Kal and with Clark. That page seemed like the redemption of the Silver Age Lana Lang. Well, maybe. I'm sad we only got the little bit of Lana that we did, and Pete. I wanted more of them.

Lots of good details...the sexy flash of flesh as Clark pulls his sweater on over his costume in the morning. The gorgeous job Jamie did on the Kal Kent supersuit with its plastic shine. The space bit and how it looks up against Kal's trip to the moon with Lois "Superwoman" Lane.

As far as labours..well...Chronovore = Hydra. Many-angled and impossible.
