"you have a stupid beard!"

he willnae let it lie - 'zor' rhymes with...

slike he's exalting that good old timin' jazz of kirby, gerber, wrightson, wein, mills, wagner ('you cannot kill...' = best line of diaogue ever, to be used in all places) etc. over the 'brit invasion' canon that he's usually associated with.

"Gloom Cookie" is a goth-type cartoony comic, right? And the main character looks sort of like Misty, I believe...

Gumbitch: he willnae let it lie - 'zor' rhymes with...

Well, I'd argue he's making fun of their argument rather than perpetuating it - Zor might be evil, but Zee's response is "Ptooey!" He's making fun of it as much as he's making fun of the bullshit element.

At first, I was worried that Misty was a bit bland, sidekick-wise, but by #4 she was cracking away and playing off Zee quite well. The second conversation about the end of the world, and her mourning the spider suggested another layer to the Sheeda, even though they're even and MUST BE STOPPED.

I too put my hand to the page, seemed the thing to do to help Zee out - plus, isn't that how you charge Robbie Williams' sigil?

I enjoyed the book quite a bit, I still need to go back and re-read the entire series once it's finished, but yeah, it was very good.

I also felt obliged to put my hand, finger to finger, onto the page--connecting the circuit with Zatanna.

I wonder what percentage of readers felt a similiar obligation...and I wonder if it was intentional (and therefore and act of magick) on the part of the creators.

So, who else touched Zatanna's hand through the page? ...or am I just living up to my namesake....

Mario

I must confess to trying it.

I haven't, but isn't touching her hand the entire point of that page? Crossing layers of the real and the representational, and discarding the context of the story to interact with the higher, or more mundane, reality?

For one moment, she's asking us to help her. But then we realize she's only reached as far as the Seven Unknown Men.

As disjointed as issue three felt, I still like the Zatanna mini the best.

Right in the store, I did. Like Benny said, seemed the decent thing to do to help out, lend a hand, as it were.

Zatanna touched me.

Show us on the doll where Zatanna touched you.

Didn't felt the need to. She was sort of my own daughter (and I think that was quite intentional). Didn't have to touch her in the same way she didn't need to go any further to find the Libri Zatarae. Not making myself clear, I'll need to come back here after a good night sleep.

Just didn't. Who knows what GM might be up to with that. Do you know what sigil you're charging?

I took it as a narrative thing, like when Hermes looked at the reader in Promethea.

Sparrow: Didn't felt the need to. She was sort of my own daughter (and I think that was quite intentional).

It was about trust. She could do it, she could stand on her own two feet.

Like so many above, I put out my hand to help Zatanna and I didn't feel even slightly self-conscious when I did it, either! I think I was slightly disappointed when she didn't pull herself out of the book. I don't think I'd have blinked.

yknow
i don't believe any of you 'touched' the hand.

I touched her hand. Then she pulled me into the book, and we had to run from some bastard in a motorcycle helmet wielding a spanner...

Haven't looked at it since the first reading. Am I remembering it correctly when I say the page was drawn in a sort of first person perspective? It looked like she was reaching into the page rather than out, so all of this touching her hand chat seems ahhh, inverted.

Or am I thinking of a different page?

LDones

Different page. Reaching into the page was after reaching out to the nerd.

bringing her to our dimension. well, it took her as far as meeting the 7 bald men of mistery. making the DCU self-aware and all that.

that sequence took me right back to:

a recurring theme in Morrison's super stories, thank god.

It seemed the most natural thing to do was to place your hand on hers. As a way of supporting her and of freeing her from the comic.

The thing that truly spooked me out was on my second reading, at the part where she becomes aware of the thousands of presences watching from different places and times.
I realised with a shock that somewhere in space-time (in a direction I cannot point, ho ho) there was another me looking at her. And that she would perceive me as two distinct entities, because she exists in a fictional timeline which repeats everytime someone reads it.which

The next post ought to read, " Calm down dear, it's only a comic," okay?

Meant top add:

I didn't really follow the role of the merlin.
So Zor crushed it?
And it is one of the indestructible treasures?
And then Zatanna had it at the end anyway?

It seems to me that it didn't do anything. Zee sorted everything out, didn't she?

It was a distraction.

It features Klarion as a rival too!

I was doing a google image search for JLA and one thing linked to another...

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I think that Misty is based on Emily the Strange. I remember someone else said she reminded them of the Gloomcookie character, but Misty looks almost exactly like Emily, and GM has mentioned her himself in an interview... just wanted to get that out there before i forgot...

Mentioned.
You know, sometimes it's fun to read a thread before posting on it!
