Paul Dini - whose wife MISTY's pic was apparently used as refference to Zatanna's updated look - will soon write a comic soon featuring Z, according to Rich Johnston.

Cool - and Dini has already written a Vertigo Zatanna one-shot, drawn by Rick Mays...it came out about 3 years ago.

seriously, though: that post was made like 6 months ago... while i'm sure i'd read it way back then, i couldn't remember if the info had been mentioned, and it's a bit hard to re-read an entire thread before posting... i had actually searched for 'emily', but barbelith-search doesn't look at posts. plus, the info was not in the 7S wiki, as perhaps it should be...

I've been reading through the whole Seven Soldiers project, and this mini was by far my favorite. It's unlike anything GM's done before, in the way it seamlessly blends some of his craziest meta magickal exploration stuff with a very grounded emotional arc for our heroine. I loved her relationship with Misty, it's like Gilmore Girls meets Buffy. The final issue in particular was a perfect fusion of Morrison meta-craziness and the very emotional place of We3. Zatanna's reunion with her father and the revelation about the books is the sort of thing that could come off as cheesy, but worked perfectly and had me a little bit misty eyed.

I talked a lot more about the issue, and the other Seven Soldiers stuff over on my blog. I would love an ongoing Zatanna series by Morrison and Sook, I just want to spend more time with this character and her world.

And, of course I touched her hand.

And sort of off topic for here, but I want to avoid spoilers for the uncollected issues. What's the deal with Seven Soldiers 1, originally the fourth trade was supposed to come out in July, but the last issue hasn't even been released, right? Any idea when it's coming out, and also, how long it will be?

Speaking of the Dinis, I saw Paul's Batman 633 in the shop today, with Zatanna on the cover. As someone who loved the miniseries a ridiculous amount, is that book worth picking up? I could definitely do with seeing more of Z's story, but I'm not particularly interested in some small piece of a huge arc. Any thoughts?

Dini's run is a string of mostly unconnected one-shots, a fair few not actually written by him.

Apart from the Zatanna story, which is the first of a two parter.

It was, like the rest of the run, enjoyable but nothing special.

If you just buy these two issues you wont lose out on much with regards to the bigger picture, but if you don't you may miss a small amount of Zatanna back story, that may or may not have been canon before the mini series. I'm not sure.
