Chad, something tells me that's probably what it will amount to.

This maybe:

If the Guardian hadn't fallen from All-Beard's pirate train when he did, No-Beard's train wouldn't have had to stop. If the train hadn't stopped, the Horigal would have killed Klarion. If Klarion had been killed, the magic die wouldn't have been brought up from the depths. Without the TWO magic dice Misty Kilgore wouldn't be able to...etc etc."

From the Pulse.

Beat me to it, Juan. How dope does that sound.

"Sorry, Gloriana. Snake Eyes."

One die is wierd, but cool in a ooh! magic object way. Dice imply a pattern, one that suggests gambling, or gameplaying. Perhaps there's a Gameboard of Peredur around here somewhere?

Of note though: they're not a set. Misty's Roman numerals, Klarion's gots dots.

Wish there was more to go on.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Maybe the numerals versus dots don't matter, they just appear depending on the user? Limbo Town's less 'cultured' and maybe simple representational works better for K than Misty, who's from Summer's End. Or something equally classist sounding.

So you're suggesting that the die in my hand would appear in Helvetica Neue 35 Light, and in Flyboy's they'd be in Comic Sans?

Yeah. All I get is %#@ing wingdings.

What naughty word do the letters floating around Zatanna spell? Boobies? Rectum? Nutsack?

"Perhaps there's a Gameboard of Peredur around here somewhere?"

Brilliant. It fits as one of the missing treasures.

I think Gwydion is the books.

Aertho
12:44 / 06.09.05
(I was gonna say)

Really? Gotta a reason why, or izzit just a hunch?

(But then I thought)

Maybe the books is Gwydion. The precedent is "four" = elements after all, and used in unison is life. The first time we see Gwydion is when Zee uses her magic to light/link the books. Perhaps this will be the full circle element.

It's detailed in (mostly) my anno's for #2 on the WIKI, if you want to plough through.

Primarily because #2 is titled 'A book in the beginning', which is a tree, which is what G first appeared as in #1.

Psst! Mario!

... the pieces move by themselves ...

What if the books ARE the gameboard?

Rook 1 : Ystin
Rook 2 : Jake
Knight 1 : Zee
Knight 2 : Klarion
Bishop 1 : Shiloh
Bishop 2 : Alix
King : Frank
Queen : Princess Misty

I'm sort of thinking Mity's "dad" is the missing but once chained CROTOA.

Alright issue four in a month. We are about to get cyclical, and I assume an encounter with the Terrible Time Tailor is coming.

Was he the gentleman in Cass Craft's shop, who left his hat? Cassandra mentions he had a weird crackly ozone smell, and all this static electricity. Getting near Neb-Uh-Loh makes the girls' hair frizzy, like static electricity.

Why would TTT need Zatara's books?

Gwydion serves a new supreme architect whose name is hidden. SUMOSS, maybe?

Mario
16:47 / 10.09.05
Hard to say. There are three major candidates for our staticky friend in the top hat:

1. TTT
2. Ali-Ka-Zoom
3. Zatara himself.

Interestingly, both Ali (in Zatana #3) and Zatara (in issue #1) wear the same KIND of top hat, with a wide red ribbon...the same hat that was left in Cassandra's shop. However, this is not the hat Ali was wearing in the Guardian #4 flashback.

My guess is Ali left the hat...but it used to be Zatara's.

Morrison's 7 Soldiers interviews continue on The Pulse with Zatanna, and includes an explanation of where the reality TV angle disappeared to that was oringinally planned for the first couple issues, a DCU-ID of the woman leading the support group in #1 (Etta Candy), and the most likely candidate thus far for the real identity of the Terrible TIme Tailor and thus one of the Seven Unknown Men - old Spectre villain Zor!

Info and picture of Zor from moviepoopshoot

"The mystic battles provided some of the more intriguing imagery, such as this moment from MORE FUN #55, in which the Spectre encounters Zor, another spirit like Corrigan confined to Earth, except devoted to the pursuit of evil."

I'm having no luck at all finding more info on Zor, though I'm now pretty much positive he's the evil Time Tailor, and from the interview looks as though he directly falls in line with Morrison's trend of cosmically powered deadbeat dads as villains. He even looks like Zatara, and may even be wearing Ali-Ka-Zoom's hat in that fight with the Spectre. Just to be a dick.

I think I have that story somewhere. It was reprinted recently by DC in one of their Archives samplers or maybe in an 80page giant... in something like that.

tooling around the web for research on Greg Rucka, i found this on his site, an issue of Adventures of Superman coming out this month (sept. 21), featuring Zatanna...who is doing magic and being confronted by Superman. Curious!

Anybody else disappointed by the art in Zatanna 3? From page 9 (where they reach the mobsterĀ“s house) it all looks rushed and cheap. What happened there?

I don't see that at all. The Nebulah reveal and Misty backstory in particular were beautifully done.

I'm not seeing Zatanna #4 on the Diamond shipping list this week. Is it (gasp!) delayed?

I swear the checklist in the 7S books says October 5.

LDones
02:54 / 04.10.05
Next week. October 12th. Old date was the 5th, but it was pushed back last month.

The Falcon
07:21 / 04.10.05
Augh.

On a serious note, you'd think DC could maybe alter that checklist when they know it to be incorrect, given that it does appear in 95% of 7S books. Might serve a purpose then, hein?

latest date on the DC page is now "On Sale November 2, 2005"... great... have to wait even more... but hey, Bulleteer #1 comes out that day, 2 Seven Soldiers on one day.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
19:23 / 08.10.05
Unless they bounce that one a week or two later - they did that once before, didn't they? I think Klarion got moved back to accomodate another title being late.

Yikes - According to DC's site Zatanna #4 has been delayed until November 23rd.

Last-minute scripting changes? Art woes? After the cliffhanger ending of #3 I'm a bit mystified by the now 2-month delay.

Quimper

Zatanna's delay better not have anything to do with editors changing it bc it conflicts with Infinite Crisis. I'd be infinitely pissed off.

wha....?

shit, hope it's also not related to Sook's X-FACTOR gig at Marvel, though. it'd be the 2nd artist out of 7S and into the House of Ideals.

For any who were wondering, yes, this came out today.

A weird read, I'll have proper thoughts later. Felt rushed somehow, tipped its hand a bit much, maybe. Wish it hadn't been such a stretch between the last issue and this one, though the note-for-note echo of the Spectre's classic giant-size fight with Zor was pretty swell.

Aertho
20:05 / 23.11.05
So waitaminit. Zor = Terrible Time Tailor? Zor was a renegade Tailor?

Mario
20:38 / 23.11.05
He was a renegade Unknown Man. And possibly the TTT...I'll have to check Guardian 4 again.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

The very end was a bit rushed, out of it, disjointed - but everything leading up to those last two pages was mint. The Shocking Secret of the Libri(i) Zatarae was a bit obvious, if you think about it, but I liked it well enough.

Sook's art was delight, pure and concentrated.

I didn't see the secret coming and thought it was quite lovely. For all his zany ideaitude, there's no one better at good old fashioned heartfelt emotional storytelling writing comics today. I can't think of another writer who puts so much stock in the power of positivity and love. Sounds shmaltzy, I know, but hot damn the man writes some joyful-ass comics.

The end didn't feel rushed to me at all, maybe because I was just keeping up with all the wackiness. The art might have lacked a little detail towards the end, but the storytelling was so impeccably constructed, I didn't really mind it. Really wonderful end to the first wave, although I'm sure the last three serieses will end up tying into the first four, as all these final issues probably take place about twenty seconds before SS #1. After the merely adequate MM and Bullet premeires, I had honestly forgotten how marvelous this series really is.

Benjamin: The end didn't feel rushed to me at all, maybe because I was just keeping up with all the wackiness.

I think it was just the lapsed time with Misty gone and then returning in the last panel; I think this will work better when we get into the new minis, as I'm sure the Tibet thing gets fleshed out. As it stands, she disappears and then returns to shout. I liked Zee's invocation at the end; real magic or mere synchronicity? I like the implication that it doesn't matter (vis-a-vis Jack Frost at the end of Invisibles). Zee's encounter with the Unknown Men was rocking, and I like that Zor is their renegade eighth - Eight is the Doom Number, the Sheeda's favourite number, and fated to rebel against "good."

And I'm pretty sure, based on what Misty says at one point, that theories regarding the origin of the Sheeda might be close to the mark.
