Argh. I screwed up a link in gathering, could you help me out? It's annoying me.

Those links look okay to me. What seems to be the problem, entity?

Oh, it's been fixed, thanks.

On another note... Any updates on the title for the "Concerns about..." thread? It's really important to me, and if someone is disagreeing it, maybe we could discuss why?

Can someone lock the brothel names thread in the Convo so it stays at 69 posts forever?

On "concerns about" - I was holding off from proposing the change, since I had been so active in the discussion of the wording, but a changed form of wording has now been proposed - it's not identical to the last suggestion, but I think it's a definite improvement. I agreed it, so it should be waiting for one more approval.

I just wanted to say my last post here was made before I actually read the thread. In hindsight it doesn't seem so appropriate.

I have a question regarding the post a page or so back by Anna De L which states:

We have had an email from someone referring us to this. It refers to the image in this post. Can someone removed it as quickly as possible?

Out of interest, where/who does the email go to, and then how is it dealt with afterwards? Is a PM just sent randomly to someone?

Actually it came into the applications account.

Also just out of interest, was that a copyright thing? If you don't want to say, feel free not to, obviously.

He emailed the applications gmail account with his request (which incidentally I check once or twice a day). I put the note up in this thread and pm'd a couple of Temple moderators who I thought were most likely to be online at that time.

The image of the tree that was displayed is copyrighted and a combination of copyright and bandwidth issues led to the person who maintains it asking us to remove the image. Obviously people don't always see copyright notices since a lot of images are pulled off google, I told him that this was probably the case and that we would obviously pull the image off as soon as possible. I decided that considering the time of day it would be best done through the moderation system and that Tom probably didn't need to be bothered unless it became a bigger issue and thus let the person who emailed me know that I would ask our moderators to remove it. Once it had been done I let him know that it had been changed into a link to the site, which he was fine with.

Hmmm, Kay's High Society thread. I'm about to go back and look at maybe adding something to either the title or the summary to give people SOME HINT OF WHAT THE THREAD IS ACTUALLY ABOUT, as Kay doesn't seem to be concerned about doing so. While it's certainly a Music forum thread I'd be inclined to leave it in the Conversation for now to see whether it gets different people involved (See: The Feminism 101 thread). Perhaps when it looks like flagging a Conversation moderator can kick it into the Music forum?

Yeah, I'd like to see it parked in the Convo for a bit, just to catch the eye of people who don't lurk the music forum like a filthy old dude with a bag of sweeties.

What's the score with that Moon Online thread in Conversation? Is it a random advert or what?

Not exactly. Johnny wants us to come and play at his house.

The Moon Online is another messageboard; it shares a few members with Barbelith (although I think people only ever have time to post mainly on one and only lurk/post occasionally on the other); the two boards might be described as having a love/hate relationship; the thread is an encouragement for more people from Barbelith to come and post on the Moon Online, framed in a humorous way.

There are two Quasar threads in the Lab here and here. Could a Lab mod make with the explodey on one or other please?

Er...can someone tell me why the Burning Down the Haus thread has been moved to Conversation. Did Haus recommend this move? I don't see any real benefits to moving it.

Yup, Haus proposed it. I agreed it.
Do you think it was benefitting from being in the Policy?

It might have done once. But then the five year-olds started posting to it and anything beneficial that may have come from it was quickly flushed down the shitter.

Sort of. I suppose I just feel that to have it in Conversation means the focus on Haus is increased (as it's the most busy forum, as far as I know). Also, it kind of takes the fun out of the Conversation. But then, I"m probably wrong and Haus requested the move, so...

Seriously, why move it to Conversation? So that more people will read it?

I'm obviously having trouble understanding the move. Can someone explain? (no snark intended)

Look at it the other way round... it wasn't really a Policy thread anymore, was it? In theme, it's more Policyish than Convo-ish, but in tone it stopped being a Policy thread about three pages ago, and seeing as how nobody agreed that we should have a forum for people to fight in, Conversation's kind of the default setting.

I do! I think that's a great idea. Then we could just shuffle threads that turn into warzones into the fight forum...

Of course, there would be no content on the rest of the board.

Cheers Stoat, that is indeed a better way of looking at it.

Hmmm... Is this a clue that the thread originally escaped from the Armoury forum? Honestly, sometimes I read Barbelith and I think we're all caught up in some really clever computer role-playing game for mental development, unsure who are people and who are AI. Like the spawn of ELIZA are being used without us knowing to help us develop mentally. You only get in the Armoury forum when you can be trusted to not go the way of Kurtz Brando and get carried away with the methods at your disposal. e.g go batshit with a flame-thrower.

Sorry, as you were...

I proposed the move to convo, after a brief discussion with another policy mod. My main reason was precedent - I hadn't remembered that the first BDTH thread was in Conversation. The second was that it was representing, among some very interesting conversation, some stuff that we probably wouldn't want as representative of how we work in the Policy. If the Convo mods disagree, they could send it back, but it might be a bit silly if I proposed it again.

Is anyone else now starting to think the Burning Down the Haus thread thread shoud be locked?

It seems more and more like it was a bad idea in the first place and as far as I can tell all a thread like that does is act like flypaper for negative criticism.

So, should the thread be allowed to continue? (I for one, really wish I hadn't bothered to try and post something helpful there).

Haus, have you learnt anything revealing yet about why (as you put it) you "seem to act as a kind of lightning rod for aggravation around here"? Are / were you ever likely to? Would you prefer that the thread stay unlocked?
