Yes, I've been trying (unsuccessfully, unfortunately) to find any episodes for download, and it was a touch annoying having to re-read the whole thread to find the one place where the name of the show was actually mentioned.

I proposed your abstract change last night, Jack, but it appears to have been vetoed.

Which is fine, but I'm annoyed that whoever decided that it shouldn't go through didn't have the simple good manners to PM me to let me know or to explain why.

The title change has gone through okay, Randy. Did you try to change both at once? I'm always doing that.

I've just denied Lula's resize of the 'Digimon are real' picture-post cos you can't read it at appropriate width (500, I presume), which spoils the fun a little.

I think if you request two changes to a post at the same time something* eats one of the requests, is that right?

You can't ask for two mod changes in the same moderation request - it will just go for whichever one has the radio button next to it clicked.

But also sometimes if you put in two successive moderation requests to the same post.... something happens, no?

If you're trying to do the same class of action, you'll be told that the action is already waiting in a queue... is there another quirk I'm not familiar with?

If one was a summary change and one was a content change you mayn't get that problem because it's not the same moderation request, linear like. Yeah? So like, different drop down selection.

I've put in a request to change the summary of Dragon's thread about teh immigaunts, as it's unclear why it didn't go through before.

I didn't. Two different requests to two different elements of the thread.

As Nina says, unlike trying to change a thread title when somebody else has already proposed a change to the title and the earlier request is still waiting in the queue, chnaging a title then an abstract in two individual actions doesn't generate any error message.

Can we do something esle about the Digimon pic then? It's annoying to have just one thread with a big picture in it. It's just not neat, it's not neat and things should be!

The Falcon
20:50 / 06.08.06
I dunno, think you can have 510-520 width? But you can't preview it, unfortunately. I agree wholly with the desire for neatness, but the only thing I can think of to do is try slightly wider versions and see if they're legible. Or we could make it a link, I s'pose.

Not quite sure why I got a mod request earlier which had listed as Forum "Conversation", but the reference link led to a post in Temple. It was a fairly old post, so I'm guessing it had maybe been moved at some point, but then surely the Reference bit would also have been updated?

Is that the Tom one? The poster named Brian who wanted his name removed? I got that too and I think it had been shifted a while ago.

The ref links sometimes get confused when a thread is moved, Stoatie. I've previously had mod actions in my queue for threads in Convo - at some point, they've passed through one of the areas where I am a mod.

Hello guys ~ there is a thread in Film and TV about "offbeat films" that started as a list (of not-especially offbeat films), was valiantly challenged, prodded and encouraged (not by me) and has become a weird personal ramble that I'm not sure is salvageable. Just pointing it out as I don't know what should be done ~ should it be allowed to sink (if it's hopeless) or survive (if it can) or be deleted (as beyond repair), &c.

Spatula Clarke
18:43 / 10.08.06
Sink. Unless, that is, somebody does manage to turn it around - not that I can see this happening (does anybody understand what it's supposed to be about?) - in which case it'd obviously become worth a shit, or people keep on adding lists to it, in which case I'd be up for locking it.

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the "What extremes does one have to go to get banned on Barbelith?" thread, but just a heads up: if 33 keeps babbling incoherent nonsense in the MTV thread, or anywhere else in the Music forum, rather than engaging with the subject at hand and the content of other people's posts, then I'm going to start deleting his posts.

Deleting the offending posts would be all right I think - the man's routine wasn't all that funny to begin with, and now, like a stand-up comedian who'd perhaps be better off sticking with the day job, it'd arguably be for his own good if he was canned off stage. He's been repeating himself for a while now, it seems, and I don't know if he's going to develop, artistically.

Our Lady Has Left the Building
05:38 / 11.08.06
Well, I'd ask that you don't, because if he keeps this up then in a few weeks time I'm going to ask if we can ban him, on the grounds that he's totally unwilling/incapable of engaging with anyone in any meaningful way. This goes beyond the spats people have had on the board in the past, in to a position where he's not willing to modify his opinions and behaviour at all and I'm interested to see, once we've got a clear pattern of behaviour, whether people on here would be willing to support asking Tom to kick him off.

The obvious response here for example is: 'No, I've never read any of those books but that's because they're shit. Have you tried the Making Out series, or perhaps Fearless?'

I'm interested to see, once we've got a clear pattern of behaviour, whether people on here would be willing to support asking Tom to kick him off.

I'm wondering if that's the way the system was meant to work.

I'm much more prone to simply prune the non-useful posts than to let them accumulate into something toxic -- and something seems really iffy to me about the act of "building a case" to request a ban. I think the iffyness comes out of a feeling that bans are really only there to cover for times when moderation won't work... although that's not exactly it (and not exactly how bannin's been used in the past). But mostly it's just that I don't like messes on the board, and don't like the idea of intentionally leaving messes for any reason.

I'm beginning to suspect the editorial delete is being underused, even though it's one thing that's built into the software & distributed system. Is it because too many delete requests are being vetoed? Or a feeling that delete requests would be vetoed?

and then youd all live happily ever after ?

Well I actually only came here for one purpose any way that is certainly no joke in fact i'd wager its about as funny as glower girls recent remarks.

But given the overwhelming tendency I've seen to find catergories and logic to justify everything I'm not sure theres much point , I was under the impression you see that this place was bit more balanced but I fear I am wrong and bit disappointed too.

Have no fear I will not waste any more time conversing or prolonging your mental mastuarbautions as to what imaginary scheme or plan you think i'm especially prepared for your pleasures

My objective now is get back to why i came here the first place and leave it at that.

amen

Find a denim shirt, if I recall correctly.

33. I don't think it's impossible for you to have a happy time here. However, there are things that wiill militate against that - not because of closemindedness or people not appreciating your subversive genius, just because people need to get on with each other.

1) If you are not interested in talking about something, don't start a thread about it.
2) Films that are more complex than you like are not doing it on purpose just to spite you. Likewise, people who have tastes other than yours are not just being difficult.
3) Sometimes it's not that everyone else is taking it too seriously, or that everyone else has no sense of humour; it is specifically that you are not funny.
4) Personal insults do not distract people from noticing that you are failing to address an issue. If anything, they highlight it.
5) Sometimes, if people don't understand what you're saying, it's because you're being incomprehensible. Start again.
6) A lot of people here are going to have a better idea of how to interact on message boards, and indeed generally, than you do, just as a lot of people are going to know more than you about a number of topics. Learn from them.

Now, I could explain to you why your threads so far have largely gone tits-up, but I'm not sure you're interested or have any desire to make compromises to get along better, so I won't waste my time unless requested.

Jack Fear Oi! What's wrong with Edward Gorey

Absolutely nothing my dear, it's more treating 33 as he'd treated others in the music and fashion threads.

Grant I'm wondering if that's the way the system was meant to work.

Which is what I think would be interesting to see. We've had homophobia and racism so far, along with the use of 'masturbating' as a term of abuse against those he doesn't like, then coupled with a complete unwillingness to engage with people, he is not only unwilling to change his position on a topic (which there are a fair number of similar people on the board) but is also completely unwilling to do something which might make him change his opinion even when it comes down to, as in the music thread, the other kids in the class offering to do the hardwork for him.

I would be interested to see whether that level of detachment is seen as a problem in itself. Of course, if he shut up now then I probably wouldn't bother doing the thread.

33 But given the overwhelming tendency I've seen to find catergories and logic to justify everything

"Damn them! My one weakness... They're using logical arguments to defeat me!"

I was under the impression you see that this place was bit more balanced but I fear I am wrong and bit disappointed too.

Well, if you are of the opinion that a balanced position would consider the ills of the world to be due to the gays and the blacks then I'm fairly glad you feel disappointed.

Well, what I'm wondering is why those things are still hanging out there instead of being edited or redacted out of existence.

I'm not saying it's not a problem, I'm just wondering about other ways to approach it.
