To commemorate National Day of Slayer, would it be possible to lock the Slayer thread in Radio & Music whose last post is shown at 06:06 06/06/06? Such neat symmetry deserves preservation.

I'm more than happy to post an explanation in Radio & Music explaining why it's frozen thus and so, and to continue the thread itself elsewhere (assuming it survives the apocalyptic day - along with the rest of Barbelith, and indeed, humanity).

Yeah, that was my post. I didn't even do it on purpose if you can believe that. Lock it! Immortalize me!

To business... In my "Learning About Wine" thread abstract in the Convo, I spelled "for" as "fow." Could someone fix that for me please?

Whoops!

Second Oldboy thread needs to be locked and deleted!

I believe Shrug is putting forth a lock.

Yes, thanks matt, I did. Awaiting a transference of posts still.

This seems as good as place as any so:
I've been thinking of going on holidays for a little bit. Will probably make tracks in the next few days. Pay a visit to my cousin country mouse (or something similar). Therefore I won't be around to fulfill my mod position for a little bit. This most likely won't cause any problems, I've just seen other people announce similarly somewhere. Cheers.

Right - Professor Silly has asked for various posts to be modified, starting here, basically to remove all the stuff about Brian Epstein and gay men being better stylists and Mel Brookes and yada yada yada. I agreed one before I realised what was going on (sloppy, I know - I'm getting old), and there are three more in the queue. I'm not sure they should be modified, a) because it would make a nonsense of some of the other posts in the thread, and b) because I think it's better that people learn from reactions to things they write rather than retroactively, in their words, "self-censor" their posts so as not to, again in their words "cause hurt feelings". I'm sure Professor Silly's intentions at this point are good, but I don't know if removing this stuff is the best way forward - what do other people think?

I agreed them, but only because I saw that Professor Silly had made a note in the thread itself that the prior posts were being modified.

i like these things to stay as a part of the barbelith document.
deleting the dumb and/or ignorant stuff makes it all too easy to rewrite in your own head how you used to be, and i dont think that's useful or healthy for either board or member.

I'm sorry i've had some problems with my browser, and i have two double posts in the barbeleith temple thread "Why magic?", and it looks like it could kind of be annoying, they are both on page four, and i've put a request in for moderating

Could someone move my "Gay Sports Superstars" thread from Headshop to Switchboard, please?

Or would it fit better in G&G? You decide!

Can someone fix the Biohacking thread in the Lab? Some dodgy HTML has sort of killed the first post...

I meant the website as I can't get the Telegraph link to work. Although I did find this.

Alas has revived this thread and, again, pointed out the problematic nature of "going transsexual". I realise it's not necessarily straightforward changing a thread title when the thread starter doesn't see a problem with it, but I honestly think it is clumsy and ill-conceived. I'd take issue with a thread which talked about "going homosexual", and I think we can probably do better here also.

Inclined to agree - I've never liked the title for a number of reasons, one of which is that I don't think "going transexual" means anything - it's an obfuscatory phrase that does not actually tell you what the thread is about.

Possibly something like "Discussion of a study on levels of satisfaction after gender realignment surgery, and the process and consequences of gender realignment"?

I think you should just replace going transsexual with gender realignment. It would be closer to the original thread title and quite recognisable and it would actually make sense.

What Nina said.

It's specifically about gender realignment surgery, though, isn't it? At least, that's the bit P&UF wanted to focus on...

I think that should be a summary tweak, not a title re-write.

Works for me. Anyone want to nominate it?

I like leaving off surgery and just substituting "gender realignment" for "going transsexual"--although I wondered also about the term "effectiveness".... I would be happy to nominate it, but am wondering if P&UF has been contacted?

"Concerns regarding the lack of effectiveness of gender realignment surgery" would be a fair title change as far as I'm concerned. It keeps the original poster's meaning, I believe. Zie did say that zie wanted to make a strong impact, and a more gentle "Concerns regarding the effectiveness or lack thereof of gender..." would undermine that impact. But I don't believe the original poster's intent was to use inaccurate and ignorant wording, which is how I view "going transsexual".

Alas, I think I hear that your concern is more directly with the "lack of effectiveness" part. I also have a strong concern with how that part of the title presumes that there is a lack of effectiveness, when the whole point is that we don't know if there is a lack of effectiveness or not, due to inadequate study. But I also think changing that one is more problematic, if the original poster's wishes are to be respected.

It's pretty clear that POTUS/P&UF saw "going transexual" as equivalent to "receiving genital surgery", so if we want to stay true to his conception of the thread we probably ought to go with "GRS" rather than just "GR". On the other hand, I don't think we necessarily have to replicate the exact intended meaning, because the exact intended meaning was itself a bit confused. P&U-F is, I think, biking around Canada at present, so might be a bit hard to get hold of. How about "Study raises concerns about satisfaction levels after gender realignment surgery"?

Hello Lab mods, we don't need three of these radar threads let's ditch the bottom two please.
And while you're there, this needs an abstract. Ta!

Could a film mod please put me out of my misery and take the words "Prepare to get moist with excitement" out of the title of the Transformers film thread?

We have had an email from someone referring us to this. It refers to the image in this post. Can someone removed it as quickly as possible?

Sorry, late to this, been having login probs, but agree with the title change proposed by haus/discussion around the issue.

Also, could a Gathering mod delete the oddly-titled version of the London It Came From The Sea thread please?
