I think Kelly Osbourne is going to be the next Goblin.

>>>, personally, think it's about time for the movie studios to start doing the Marvel thing and having crossovers and Cameos.

What would be the point of that.

It'd be cool. Well, maybe.

I genuinely would like the Sinister Six next time. There's already three set-up; Goblin, Ock and Lizard - I know the latter's a bit specious but still.

Mendel Stromm, Robot Master, could come back from the dead, too.

It would be cool to have Peter be wowed seeing the Fantastic Four on TV or have him swing past Four Freedoms Plaza but I think Marvel sold all the movie rights to different studios so its unlikely to happen.

from Comics 2 Film:

>> Ain't It Cool News has a rumor about Venom showing up to vex Tobey Maguire in the next web-spinning sequel. "Was watching a rather backwater, Uk-produced media entertainment show called 'Infotainment' when to my surprise an interview with Raimi turned up a very VERY interesting set of possibilities. The interviewer (sorry i forget the name...he's very B-list over here) declared his undying love for Spidey and all things related and asked if Raimi would possibly give him some hints on who the adversaries are to be next time around. Raimi responded with a comment that, although far from finalised, he had just finished the first treatment and would be able to tell him roughly what happens and who would be likely to lock webs with Peter; just so long as he didn't tell anyone else. Then (in an obviously unscripted move...due to the incredulous look on the interviewer's face) proceeded to spend several seconds whispering into his ear...genuine whispering (not the old "rhubarb, rhubarb" theatrical routine). After which the interviewer looked directly at camera and said, and I quote; 'Well, how happy am i. There it is; in Black and White.' The delivery of this line was unmistakable, he might as well have winked at the audience. Raimi kinda twitched when he said it too, looking skywards slightly...in a kinda exasperated fashion. Make of it what you will."

there's not really any question about venom being in the next one though is there? his origin was signposted hugely in the film we've all just seen, and he's the most visually striking and antithetical of all spidey's villains, not to mention the most popular.

the stuff about raimi having a personal beef with the character implies a judgement of raimi's skills as a filmmaker that i'm not prepared to accept: i.e. that he's the kind of bell who'd let his own thirty-year old memories of a comic book interfere with making a good film.

and the stuff about venom's copyright being owned by someone else - what on earth are these shadowy marvel-thieves going to do with this precious iconic property of theirs? NOT put it in the biggest summer movie of the year? think of an oppurtunity to use him that doesn't involve spider-man? come on.

Venom's the top-level villain in the first movie's videogame tie-in, if I remember right.

If the Black Cat and Venom are in it, then Black and White could be like a visual theme.

"there's not really any question about venom being in the next one though is there? his origin was signposted hugely in the film we've all just seen,"

... it was? How/when was it signposted?

If you're referring to the moon/John Jameson angle, that's related to Werewolf by Night. It does sound like they'll be linking it to Venom by the TV leak above, but surely that's not a signpost.

yes i mean john jameson. have a wild dream where you think that werewolf by night's going to be the baddy in spidey 3, i don't mind.

venom's origin is a thing of deeply entwined marvel universalness. to cut this out when venom was introduced to the nineties cartoon the blackblob costume appears as an alien parasite upon john jameson's returning from a trip to outer space. this to my mind is a good, economical retelling, and events in spidey 2 definitely make it a plausible model for the next film, if not a blindingly, inescapably obvious one. john jameson is not an integral part of trad spidey mythology, and would not have been introduced as a significant character if there were not plans afoot. and did no-one see the way he jumped down onto the dock to greet mary jane? dude can move.

i mean, you don't think? really? why not?

i think/pray they'll be squeezing in more than one baddy in the next one. the lizard's all set up to go, and the cat, and harry. chuck in venom as well, let's get some costumes moving about the place. if they don't the plot structure can really only be disappointingly repetitive.

Oh, it's a great theory - clumsiness = bad luck power, etc. I like it. But I also know that nowadays us sophisticated hip-geek viewers/readers are so used to looking for clues and foreshadowing that it's very easy for writers to either throw us off deliberately (cf New X-Men and EN. SABAH. NURRRR!) or even accidentally...

Plus I'm very keen on the idea that there are minor characters in SM2 who exist to interact with PP as human beings rather than warming-up to put on the lycra.

Plus Dushku for Black Cat. Ahem.

You guys don't know shit, they're setting up Harry as the Hobgoblivenom.

I know this because that girl was cooking on the HOB and she is secretly his crazy mentor because she is like the image of Harry's mother when she was younger and she actually burns his face on the HOB giving him a real face of a goblin rather than a mask and he is also experienting in space because he owns the satellite ships that sent Jameson in to space and that is where the black ooze comes from which actually makes HARRY venom because he takes it for his SECRET LAB.

ah well see i'd be happy to be wrong if the doosh turned out to be the cat.

i just don't see it - i reckon chabon's influence is in these signposts (if they're signposts in the shape of red herrings then consider me gulled). it doen't make sense to me that they'd make the film flabby enough to fit these essentially meaningless little 'pete chats to a girl/the kid from across the street' bits in. they've gone to the effort to put betty and robbie there (incidentally robbie looks like he knows to me), normal folk capable of showing how he reacts to the non-intimate, non-super people in his life...

(god i'm going to look such a prick if i'm wrong)

I'd like to see that polka dot villian that used his spots to open portals between worlds and punch spiderman in the back of the head, way back in Peter Parker, Spectacular Spiderman 90 something. Either that or I'd like to see a scene where the stereo-typically grumpy and selfish New Yorker's band together in the face of evil and stand up to protect their masked savior, we haven't seen enough of that in these films yet.

I watched it again the other day, and you know, it kinda seems like everyone knows.

The kid across the street can just as easily be a tool for Aunt May's speech, and also I wouldn't rule out that all these little nods might indeed be just that and nothing else.

hear, here. from what i've heard, if you mess with one new yorker it's almost exactly the same as if you had messsed with all eight million of them.

and thinking about it, i'm not surprised that everyone looks like they know, given he's hardly ever got his fucking mask on. this is a trend both bendo and milly are continuing in their books, and it's balls.

looking at maguire and his rep as an act0r you wouldn't figure him to be such a preener that he'd chuck a piss about not having his boatrace on-screen the whole time.

Benny the Ball

I've heard he is a bit of a prick in real life, and likes to get Leonardo Di Caprio drunk and into trouble while he sits there all innocent like. Plus, the stupid gurn as he ran across the roof top to jump, all pumped and serious, gave an interesting insight into what he'd look like throwing a tantrum.

You sure we're not talking about Rocket Raccoon?

Jack

What's so difficult to understand? I am an adult. I didn't enjoy Spuderman2 because of a conjunction of a)being too mature to be entertained by this movie's feeble plot with b)also not willing to give up on my intellectual and aesthetic faculties during the time it takes to watch it, in order to appreciate it in any level. There are other adults who cannot be bothered to do that, as well. I'm talking about this particular group of adults.

Er... sorry, man. This is not the right day for me to try and deal with this sort of argument. People, I didn't mean some of that stuff or the way it came off. Please replace "us adults" with "us adults of the grumpy, killjoy, party-pooper type". Etc.
