Can no-one answer my question? I'll assume it's just that no-one knows, rather than the infinitely more depressing explanation that I'm the only one reading that book.

Here he is:

Who is he?

Thank You!

I wish Triplets was right.

I'm going to pretend he is.

Why does he look like someone tried to restrain and respectify the Vanisher?

Do you see the time difference between Mario and my posts? That's how close I was to being right. Right!

Look at it this way, now Marvel can never claim they own Mentalist Meerkat. You do. And I haven't seen a good barbelithic Jenny story for a bit now. Hint. and. Hint.

I wish. RL concerns.

Although I just had a silly thought. Thunderbolts Academy. Takes lame villains and trains them to appear competent.

A picture of a black-suited Spidey was linked to over in the S3 movie thread. Question: Why is he blacksuited again? Is it a symbiote? And, most importantly, who thought that was a good idea?

Essential Dazzler
18:46 / 11.05.07
He's Back in Black because Aunt May got shot at the end of Civil war, she isn't dead yet. Now he's angry and going to KILL!!!!!!!!! The Kingpin.

It isn't the symbiote, it's because he is darque now.

Also, no one thinks it is a good idea.

Yeah, but be fair, spider-bloggers haven't liked the last twenty-odd years of stories, yet they still keep buying the things. They should be thankful they're still getting stories and not just photocopies of the Bullpen's collective poo.

When was that, JD? Like the time when he had to go into the tunnels to fight Morbius?

The thing about the black suit is - the reason they always justified his not wearing it even though it is clearly much better was that Venom kidnapped or tried to kill Mary Jane. Something upsetting. I don't want to seem cold, but really she should just be like "Yeah, I'm over it + you look super-fucken-cool."

When Shooter was editing I think they had most of the Spectacular Spider-Man comics set at night, and he'd wear the black costume, and in the other comics he'd wear the iconic red and blue for daytime adventuring.

I read the post-Civil War article in this month's Comics Buyer's Guide, and realized that I have no idea what is happening in the MU these days.

Maybe all y'all can help:

-What happened to Nick Fury? When did he step down as head of SHIELD?

-How did Storm and Black Panther joing the Fantastic Four? What happened to Reed and Sue?

-Does the Hulk know that the Illuminati sent him away? Is he back yet?

-What else should I know to have a handle on the MU without actually having to buy any comics?

Thank you for your time.

-What happened to Nick Fury? When did he step down as head of SHIELD?

SILENT WAR, because he was too sneaky (or something)

-How did Storm and Black Panther joing the Fantastic Four? What happened to Reed and Sue?

CIVIL WAR. Reed & Sue took a leave of absence "to work out their differences" (translation: for Reed to grovel)

-Does the Hulk know that the Illuminati sent him away? Is he back yet?

Yes. And he's got his own crossover to deal with them (WORLD WAR HULK)

-What else should I know to have a handle on the MU without actually having to buy any comics?

Tony Stark is a manipulative bastard, who has managed to force every superhero to choose between joining the Initiative, or getting hunted down by the New New Thunderbolts.

And Iron Fist is actually semi-cool.

Actually I believe it was a result of the new (painted) SECRET WAR.

Is he set to fight SHIELD again? 'Cause he's good at that. Nick vs SHIELD is my standard example of painted-cover comics that aren't horrible. Even if there wasn't enough flying car and op-art backgrounds.

Secondly, when did Hercules get un-mortaled?

And what was the name of now-frontman for Monster Magnet Dave Wyndorff's band in Nocenti's Daredevil?

You may be right. I got my "crossovers nobody bought or particularly cared about" confused.

As for Nick, Brubaker has been using him in CA as Winter Soldier's handler. My guess is he'll probably get involved with SHIELD once Marvel decided to make Tony more like the movie.

How did the Hulk get smart again between the Bruce Jones "TV Show" Hulk and the Greg Pak "Conan The Green" Hulk?

Shiny: Well Over Thirty
13:24 / 18.06.07
Well towards the end of the Bruce Jones Hulk as I recall Banner was turning into the Hulk at will at retaining a lot of his intellect and a measure of control due to special radiation, or something, and only going full dumb Hulk mode personality-wise when he got really mad. The personality of the sorta banner-hulk blend that was often manifesting towards the end of Jones run was similair enough to version of the Hulk Peter David had been using at the end of his run that I suspect he just went with it.

Also significient, but ill-defined chunks of the Hulk continuity between Peter David's two runs were retconned out as delusions induced by Nightmare, so no-one really knows exactly what's in continuity for the Hulk between those two runs.

A Punisher question: I know that prior to being brought back by Ennis and Dillon, Frank Castle had an ill-conceived period as an undead angelic avenger. And I had a vague memory that prior to this, he went bonkers, shot jaywalkers and Nick Fury, and then died.

However apparently there was also a period in which he was happily working with organised crime/the Mafia. My question is, how on earth was this justified, when it goes so against the basic fundamentals of the Punisher we all know and love?

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
14:04 / 18.06.07
Simple answer: that wasn't the Punisher we all know and love. That was Ponytail Punisher. The Punisher with a ponytail.

Ostrander "killed" the Punisher in the electric chair, but it was a set-up to get him off Death Row, orchestrated by a mob family that apparently wanted to go straight, but could only go straight if they killed off all their rivals first. I think.

It was very very very bad.

Punisher fought mutants near the end a lot.

And he had a ponytail.

the first issue of "One More Day" - the series that will supposedly change Spider-Man's history - was released today and in the back of it there was his pages from the Marvel Universe detailing his history. i was surprised they included quite a bit of his history, the clones, his alternate identities, May's and MJ's faked death and Gwen’s twins, but when it came to MJ and Peter's baby i thought they did a bit of revisionist history, in an otherwise truthful retelling. (he's been busy foe on his age.) it says the Norman Osborn poisoned MJ and induced a miscarriage. from my rememberance of reading it, which was a while ago, I remember Norman taking the baby and handing it off to some woman. there was a scene with a phone call place from Norman to the woman on boat implying she had the baby.

does anyone else remember this?

i'm not sure i have the issue or even find it if i did.

As I understand it, the House of M thing led to Scarlet Witch "re-making" the world with the edict "no more mutants," which led to the current status quo of a Marvel Universe where there aren't that many mutants -- 198 or something, right?

Has anyone ever explained how "no more mutants" got turned into "not very many mutants?"

Mario

The basic handwave seems to be that Dr Strange was casting a shield spell just as she said it, and that attenuated the effect somewhat.
