Kind of a long story, but here goes... a friend of mine, who is, admittedly a notorious credit risk (she owes me a few thousand quid, but I'm forgetting about that for the time being while all this shit's going on) borrowed a couple of hundred quid of this guy she knows to pay her rent, and arranged to pay him back tenwty quid a week until it was all paid off. (Now, I know she's been making the payments on time, because I've been either going up there with her or, more recently, going up there myself so she doesn't have to) Apparently he started getting a bit sleazy towards her, which freaked her out a bit (hence me going with her to make the payments) and it's got worse and worse until now he's pushing death threats through her door.
Of course, Stokey being Stokey, everyone knows pretty much everyone else, and we've found a guy who's had dealings with the fucker in the past, which turned out much the same (except in that case it was the creep who ended up owing the OTHER guy money, so it's not really about that!). Basically, it seems he likes befriending people, getting into a situation where they're dependent on him in some way or another, and then terrorising them.
I'm fairly sure he's not actually gonna try anything, but not sure enough that I'd want her to take the risk, so yes, she's had people staying over/been staying at other people's houses, not leaving the dog on her own at home, all that sensible stuff, as well as going to the police. They've apparently been round to see him- they said he acted all surprised, and was very apologetic- of course, the next day she gets a REALLY unpleasant note through her door. Previous notes having accused her of being a smackhead, and implied that he'd been following not only her but her boyfriend as well (with lovely touches like "believe me, there are PLENTY of scenarios..."), this one was an actual death threat, aimed at her, her boyfriend AND her dog. The cops're supposed to be going to see him again today, but we'll see...
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that she's (unsurprisingly) terrified. According to this other guy, once the police really got involved when it was happening to HIM, the guy backed off... not wishing to make any snap layman's diagonoses, but the guy seems to be utterly insane. The closer she gets to paying him off, the more agitated he seems to be getting- I'm guessing because he won't have an excuse to contact her any more. I just wish he'd fuck off and die, basically, because he's driving the poor girl completely spare. |
