That wasn't Chris Tarrant's excuse then?

My happiness comes once more from having sent a corrected proof copy of 157 pages of dense report off to the designers for DTPing into (hopefully) final shape, to be followed ideally by only one more read through of the text. The printer's booked for next week!

I am happy, Barbelith!

I designed a logo and did some cartoons for a kids arts 'n' crafts studio that a friend of a friend is opening up. Fairly simple and cute logo, y'know, for kids.

I'm about to get paid, which is nice enough, but they just sent me a copy of the ad they placed in a magazine. It's got my logo on it! Hee! And the mag's graphic designer said that she loves it.

I am now going to go out and buy Edge. A bloody good magazine just got better.

Further, my sister has just received this bit of appreciative creative writing for one of her final essays on her degree

"A mesmerising dance of intellectual superiority"

That's some crazy hyperbolic superpraise!

Congrats, Randy. I used to read that magazine all the time, it's a good one.

I don't know how well schadenfreude is looked upon here, but this just made my motherfucking day today:

OK, that's a bit weird. Perhaps change the mod request? It looked OK to me, but then I'm Catweazle and fear technology.

Congratulations 7s, and good luck to you!

I had forgotten about World Naked Bike Ride Day until driving through downtown Asheville today. I was stopped at a red light, and coming off the green was a bunch of naked or near-naked people on bikes. One guy with a butt floss banana hammock was riding a big chopper bicycle, which I thought was particularly funny. I'm happy I live near a small city freaky enough for something like that.

Something else that makes me happy, the spring peepers that call every afternoon and evening outside my house. There's a little pond, about 40 by 40 feet, below my front yard in an old pasture. There are about six kinds of frogs and two toad species, and they all have their wonderfully distinct calls, but the mass of the spring peepers is overwhelming. If I'm talking on the phone and walk outside, people ask "what is that noise?" It's loud, but it's a beautiful sound, really. If you click the link above, you can listen to the call, but it sounds different in mass than when you hear an individual. I loves me some frogs.

Our neighbours naked bike rode, it gives me a happy too. Also making a lolpope made me absurdly happy, I'm not sure why- maybe because we share a name, and he's the ultimate target for (iconoclasticism? iconoclastry? iconoclasm?) mockery.

it's iconoclasmic, right?

Mon Oncle Ignatius

I'm quietly happy there's someone on Barbelith who goes to Asheville and witnesses naked bike rides; it does seem like a city where a goodly section of the populace wouldn't mind that much and maybe raise an eyebrow slightly, perhaps while smiling gently and nodding.

(Aside: is Vincent's Ear completely gone now?)

I dragged myself to my dojo for a class with my foot still in semi crap condition from new tattoo. I spoke with my sensei before class about my friend's son (turns out the kiddo takes the same form of martial art) having fallen from a tree and being in a coma.

At the end of class my sensei invited me to speak about Felix and then requested my class to send the kiddo good ki!

It was a fantastic moment sitting in seiza with my classmates knowing they were all sending good energy to a stranger in need.

Also I called the Wildlife center to get a report on the wee chipmonk I dropped off. He's still alive! Go healing powerz of tiny cute people in need!

Cheers guys. And also to the couple of people here I forced the draft on when I was getting paranoid about it. More happy-making is that I've been asked if I'd like to write some more, so big yays.

Giving me happy this weekend: Kaela Kimura (that's Kaela Kimura), whose three albums I just bought on the strength of a cover of one of her singles in a music game, who manages to cover all the bases from disco, through 1980s cheesepop, to spunky punkiness, via spangly guitars, and who has simultaneously J-popped my cherry and is J-rocking my world.

Ognarud Suitangi-Ognajd, yes, Vincent's Ear is gone (I can't believe someone made a wikipedia entry on it), it's lease was not renewed even though it was pretty successful and a downtown institution. There are still a number of cool hole-in-the-wall places downtown, and like I said, for such a small city it's refreshingly full of freaks. Sometimes so much so that the freakiness gets tedious, but I'd rather have a bunch of freaks than some Christian conservative whackjobs.

So it goes, I suppose. I haven't been to any of the other local nightspots that I recall; I did like that record shop Green Eggs and Jam (is it on Lexington?) quite a bit - I hope that's still going?

Sadly, I can't see a visit to Asheville being at all likely in the near future, but it always reminds me a little of Stoke Newington (where I live in London) but in the mountains of N. Carolina, obviously.

Thinking about the Blue Ridge Mountains makes me happy.

Fuck! That was you, Randy?!

Well done, that was the best article in the magazine and made me get Space Channel 5 out again. I haven't played 2, but have always half-arsed wanted to and now that's kind of swung me.

COR!

Sitting in a coffee shop with one of my people, I wrote four whole pages by hand. It was wonderful! Very rough, but liberating. When I am an angry monster I forget that this is usually because I have not written much if anything.
