MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
11:40 / 24.05.07
Got interviewed last night by a film crew about Dead Eyes Open for a documentary on zombies. I'm going to be in there with George Romero, Tom Savini, Max Brooks, and loads of other cool people. And the film crew loved me! Apparently I'm one of the last interviews but gave them a lot of good material that filled some thematic and sociological holes they wanted to address, so I might be getting a lot of face time in the doc.

Zombiemania! is the name of the movie; it'll be on Space, Sci-Fi, the Independent Film Channel and a lot of other places.

Plus I got a comic-writing gig offered to me last night! Wheeeeee!

That is excellent news, Matt. Well done.

Tip for meeting George Romero if you have never yet done so: even sitting down, he is the world's tallest man. Try not to be intimidated.

Er -- sorry, wasn't clear. I'm going to be in the documentary with Romero, Savini, Brooks etc. They were interviewed months ago in their palatial homes in the United States.

Sorry, got overexcited there. Admittedly there was a bassnote of "I've met Romero, go me" in my post. Apologies for horning on in your happiness.

Anyway, I didn't even talk to him, my girl. friend did.

...I'm leaving now.

I love that movie.

Actually, I'm also full of happies about striking up an amicable acquaintanceship with the director of the Dead Eyes Open movie, and I'm sending him a copy of the Dead Eyes Open comic. He's got a totally contagious enthusiasm about filmmaking that even bursts through in e-mails written in his second language.

Plus it's a gorgeous day and I have Gothart on my Minidisc player and I just finished a 6000-word translation about lavender at work. Life is good.

I just saw a recent still of Christopher Eccleston as the Rider in The Dark is Rising and now I have no idea where my ovaries went, yet I am overjoyed.

And I've got a publisher for the New Big Comic Project.

If my day gets any better I'm going to get struck by lightning or something. Holy cats!

It's not zombies or anything, but still.

You can't be SURE it's not zombies. That's the thing with zombies.

Lordy, no. Wide distribution to specialty shops when it gets to the stands, but we're talking mid-2008 before it gets printed. It's a long, long road between finding a publisher and hitting the shelves.

MattShepherd that looks awesome!

The only thing that brought me up short was in looking at the characters there didn't seem to be any female ones? I know, I know, but I'm a comicbook girl reader and want to see what my future sistahs in mayhem will be like!

Maybe there is one and I didn't see her?

Awesome photos, Grant.

XK, one of the major elements of Kraken! is that it's a satire of the big '70s supercrime organizations in comics, which were pretty much boys' clubs. The total lack of women is going to be delved into as one of the satirical elements and part of the "old school vs. new school" divisions that any creaking global domination organization led by a screaming cyborg Nazi has to deal with in the happening '00s.

(the woman in the colour spread is an agent of COVERT, by the way, and they're a bit more with it).

Oh, no -- he loves wrasslin' on the grass. In mid-wrassle, he's less apt to smile, but there's some serious laughing about to erupt within seconds of that second photo.

Grant your photos are indeed happy making, but as this is a forum filled with geeks I feel entirely secure in saying that the last three episodes of Lost have completely made my week.

I've had such a shitty time lately, but for two hours there I was on that fucking Island having a very good time.

Kind of a shallow one, but I just went to see the new Pirates movie (which kinda rocked) with a friend who I've known for years but have never actually hung out with much (which also rocked). And I'm getting my Neubauten tattoo tomorrow!

The amusing thing is that because the City of London publicity department is so shit, no-one knows/cares that it was done to advertise London villages, everyone just thinks "why can't we always have grass in Trafalgar Square?"

I saw the great Ken Campbell at Newport station as I was on my way home from work! Looking perplexed and trying to catch the Swansea train.

He was always an inspiration of mine. It's great when someone like that appears in your presence unexpectedly, even if just for a moment.
