Happy Birthday Justrix!

And congrats to MC and Ultraculture! Looking forward to getting it in my grubby mitts!

I've sprung for the dead-tree version via Lulu but the beastie is also out under a creative-commons license. You can read it as a PDF if you make a donation of ten American monies or do ten lovely things for other people in the next fortnight.

I dread to imagine what would happen to a person who read the PDF without donating/doing Good Works.

Mordant, congratulations that is ACE news and proves that you are very clever indeed.

Trix, happy birthday, that looks a lovely book.

Boboss, your house is beautiful and congratulations to you. Now I know your address. It is fine for me to know your address because I am not scary and stalkerish, but if I were you I would remove the link in case someone else is less nice that me.

Happy belated birthday Trix! I now know what to get my classics proffesor friend for *her* birthday when it comes around this year! THANKYOU!

Boboss, what a lovely house! And I agree totally with Lula!

Thank you Tabitha! Although, unfortunately, my boyfriend's oldest friend found out we were going to the cafe and joined in and as a result we talked about nothing but motorcycle accidents, Peak Oil and bird flu pandemics all morning, which was a bit depressing! But never mind, eh?!

(I bought him a nice cake and put little candles on it and made him some nice pasta for his tea. Also I bought him sweeties and a pretty espresso set, which he liked. So it *was* a lovely day, really).

Thank you everyone for your lovely birthday wishes!

I received the book today, Portrait of a Priestess, and I am so happy! I just finished reading the Acknowledgments, which were written one year ago, this month. I sure hope this book is as wonderful as I am anticipating.

Good books and cake makes me very happy.

This was my actual b-day cake. You can guess whose little hand that is sneaking a lick of icing - caught in the act. HA! Enjoy a virtual piece with me, while I finish off the last of it with some tea. Cherry cake with vanilla icing.

The AA sent us a magazine because we're members and I was idly looking through it just now and I discovered a whole page of my Dad's pictures! I knew he did a lot of work for the AA, for all their insight guides to countries, but I'd forgotten I might occasionally come across something by him.

It was a really nice surprise and I felt a bit like he still lives on through the work he did.

Also I didn't automatically cry.

Oh, and his pictures were advertising the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition and I've just looked on the site and there are some there, too. Woo and indeed yay.

In other more depressing pastures, why did I not inherit the 'ace photographer' gene?

Happy birthdays, belatedly, to those whose they are and were.

My happy glow last week came from the satisfying surprise I felt when browsing the arts magazine rack of a monster chain book shop and realising that I had photos published in one magazine and a few bits of writing in another. Thankfully they can be bought in independent record and art shops too, but it was nice to see them both within a metre or so of each other.

And in a week or so I'll be in the desert again at last.

What rescues this thought from the Miserable thread? Holding in my hands a whole book on women pirates entitled Bold In Her Breeches, that's what.

Besides the obvious:

I thought my minidisc player had died on me, but it turns out, after a lot of frantic testing with various discs and formats and settings, that it was just my headphones giving up the ghost in a very unusual way! Hoorah!

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
22:35 / 27.03.07
Work was short and surprisingly easy, no major upsets or frustrations after last week's debacle-a-minute.

It's ****ing sunny out, and I've switched from the big bulky black coat to a light & airy green track jacket. Which has a devil duck in the pocket.

I have chocolate eggs. Yes.

I took the bus from work to the market and bought various fruits and things, then came home and made a big, thick smoothy with the "new" blender I was given by the Accomplice's Grandmother. Too much banana, certainly, but filling and nutritious.

I've a date with a dear friend tonight to drink coffee, write poems, and presumably gossip.

Just because it gets shit in the middle doesn't mean you can self-deprecate about the fact that you have the last few episodes, which were the BEST...

Ah well. Enjoy them. I will when I finally get my grubby little paws on the fuckers.

It's only the first half of Season 2, the rest is coming later. And judging by the release schedule up to now, we can expect later to mean any time in the next ten years.

It's perfectly possible for you to purchase a copy for your good self, Stoats. That is, assuming you've got the equipment to play the thing back at the burrow.

Twas pretty cheep: about 23 quid including airmail.

XK, Boboss: Thank you both so very much for saying sweet things. The feeling is mutual.

I am happy due to a income tax refund check in the mail. I did my taxes early this year. Yay me!

Ooooh, it will be tax refund time for me soon, too.

That will be money that will allow me to visit fair Canadia at the end of June.

Which is too long and too faraway.

Not that I know of. I was under the mistaken impression that that was the case until fairly recently, though.

I like to look on the bright side. Another box set means more extras, and if they're anything like as good as that Ben Horne ayahuasca anecdote then I'm going to be EXTRA happy.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I want to punch myself in the face.

This week's happy things:

1. The Bosun has a little friend called Damon. They play together. It is, according to his lovely carer at nursery, brilliant and hilarious. Rock!

2. We don't have to find another £750 in conveyancing fees. Action!

3. It looks like we've found the best wedding venue possible. Skillient!

4. I have a best man on the wedding case. Win!

5. My sister has got oddles of cash to study her MA and her proposed doctorate AND she's moving down here with her aces bf. Prizes all round!

Such excellence.

Bad news for two friends of mine, who are getting chucked out of their cheap flat, but good news for me as they've asked me to join them in a new one. I was just gearing up to look for a different place and this will save a lot of hassle. Goodbye noisy neighbours and flatmate that I can't understand.

I had a long meeting today which meant that I didn't have to do any actual work. I am now drinking a nice wine and preparing to go to a free concert in a beautiful square, not 15 minutes walk from my flat.

I've booked my flights back to England to meet my brand new shiny nephew.

All is pretty good really.

Having a partner who is concerned about me when I'm ill is lovely. While the sickness doesn't bring joy, having someone that wants to feed you ginger ale and give you backrubs until you feel better is pretty ace.
