Let's breath some life back into this thread.

The weekend is right around the corner.

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow.

Of course, I know that some posters here are going to two, just to outdo me, but I had to go out and get my suit cleaned specially for this. It should be pretty good.

The only trouble is, the wedding list was ridiculous. Forty quid for a cheese knife?

It just gets earlier and earlier, don't it?
And hey, have we set a record yet? Is this the longest page in Barbistory? I think not, but we've got a whole weekend to kill, so who knows?

I've been busily sorting stuff for my upcoming garage sale today. I think I've got about 8 boxes of just religious material. I think the only one I really thought was cool was the History of the Antichrist. Sounds like someone's been writing books about me behind my back.

I had a guy donate a huge library to me not long ago. He was moving, in his 70's, so as long as I didn't mind going and boxing it all up, I could have it for free. Turns out he's a retired minister, and his library reflects it. Some of the more scholarly stuff looks kind of interesting, but a lot of it is geared towards a minister who does family counselling and that kind of thing. If I can't sell it, I may end up donating it to a nearby church, if they'll have it.

Of course, in the same lot I got "1001 Polish Jokes" and "The Sensuous Man", proving that ministers are not boring goits as I was led to believe.

I've read some Christian counselling guides, they can be amusing if it wasn't for the fact that they're dealing with real people.

"What do I do if someone comes to me saying they're considering suicide?"

"Show them the passage in John X:Y that tells them that suicide is a sin against God..."

Where you going for your Summer Holidays, Captain? I'm not going anywhere and I need something to look forward to, so I might as well look forward to yours...

Actually, my lovely wife and I are having a little vow-renewing ceremony and then we're off down into the states for a week. We'd always meant to get remarried every 5 years, 'cause the first time was such an excellent party, but we missed it last year, what with moving and setting up my store, so we're doing it this year. We'll be heading down to Baltimore, there to visit the lovely bitchiekittie and an old flame of my wife's who's living there now. I'm hoping we'll get over to DC as well, as Reason has not seen the Smithsonian or any of the rather impressive monuments they have there.

I cannot wait. By the gods, I need a vacation.

Have fun.

Sounds like fun, having another wedding-ette every few years. Do you get more presents? Give bitchiekittie a big hug from me and give that cougar of hers a stern talking to.

I have not been invited to any weddings this weekend but will nevertheless be purchasing a present for my cousin's. He crashed his bike a month ago and is still in a cast from the waist down. I was thinking we could get him some gift-wrapped diamorphine.

See, and I was all for more presents too!

What we're doing is more just a party, but we're having a little ceremony as well. My best friend's going to officiate, it'll be potluck in a lovely little back garden of a friend. Very low-key, but we've been together 8 years now, married 6, and over that time some of the things we promised to each other need a little revising, so that's probably what we'll do. The relationship's evolved, so the promises it's founded on ought to as well.

But, alas, no more presents. Guess I'll have to wait for the ten year anniversary.

I am here at the group home again on the weekend and envying all the plans for getting away people have. I have to WAIT for my vacation time.

Thankfully, the group home is quiet today, with two of the 9 on visit, a staff taking 2 more out to do clothing shopping and the other five content to watch TV so that I can do the paperwork and such. I didn't work last night (which amazed me) but I DID have to take a ton of calls from residents who wanted to argue rules with me when the staff on duty would tell them no. I'd tell them no as well, but they are used to complaining loudly long enough to get their way. I'm in today until around 4 or 5 depending on how the day goes, the tomorrow I'm here alone from 7 am to 3 pm. Hopefully I'll wake up in time to get a New York Times for Sunday...it's the only way I really feel civilized.

Also watched "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "The Last Days Of Disco". Yep, I am SO behind on movies that I can go to the 2 for 99 cents backstock area and get movies that I haven't seen yet happily.

For reading here I brought Edge #2, the big CrossGen book. Cheap way to get bland comics, so I'll support it.

I know most of the students are done with classes, but anyone else at work today?

Okay, so it's not technically the weekend anymore, but I just didn't feel like I put enough work into this thread this weekend. But then, it was certainly slower than normal on the 'lith this weekend.

Hang on, who am I talking to? There's no one there, I may as well stop kidding myself. It would probably be best if I just went to bed.

Good night Barbelith.

Don't bother, I already got here.
My weekend doesn't really start for another 3 hours, but there's a lot of you well into it by now, I'm sure.

Putting all sorts of auctions up on eBay today. Online money is definitely the way to go. Guess we'll see how it goes.

What're your plans for the weekend? Got my Mum's 50th birthday surprise party tomorrow night, and a bunch on my friends are doing mushrooms tonight so I'm going to go keep them company. Not really one for hallucinogens myself, but it's fun to watch people who are on them.

Anyone about?

My weekend started 3 weeks ago and is still going strong.

Plans for the "real" weekend? I don't know. I may check out some of the martial arts schools or hit the flea market. God, I'm so boring.

Actually, flea markets used to be my Sunday outing, to balance out the garage sales on Saturdays. But I'm not sure they'll be open yet. However, with all the nice weather we're having, maybe I'll be off to them this weekend.

There's only one flea market around here. It's not as good as it used to be because it moved locations. Back at the old location, I'd never leave the place empty-handed. Nowadays, I'm lucky to pick anything up.

There's two or three really large ones in the vicinity, but I find that I'm very very selective about what I buy there these days. Usually I can find a comic or two, or a cool toy for Sage, but not much else. You can always predict what kind of stuff you'll find at flea markets, I find, whereas garage sales have the strangest things.

Last year I got a clock that has no numbers on it. The background reads "Who Cares". And I got a box with a glass top. Inside is a picture of Patrick Stewart as Capt. Picard, and in small type on the glass it says "In Case of Emergency Break Glass". So funny, and currently both are up in my store.

Neat.

I just go to the flea market and on occassion garage sales in the hopes that some poor soul is selling some old transformers real cheap. Damn my need to recapture my lost youth.

Dude! I got an almost perfect Sunstreaker last week. And a metal Voltron made of lions. Saw a Laserbeak one day, though the head was broken off. I'm always looking for them.

Voltron....that takes me back. I remember I had the full sized voltron that combined and it was big enough to fit the figures in. The only figure I didn't have was the big fat guy, can't remember his name, hunk maybe?

There's no listing for garage sales in the paper today. So no trip to other people's homes for me. The flea market is pretty hopeless when it comes to toys.

It's a really good thing I don't have a credit card. I'd max it out on e-bay on transformers and other stuff I really don't need; like a nintendo power glove.

I'm at work, doing a training for two of the staff and keeping the group home calm...lasy night was just a nightmare here. A fight broke out between two kids, another kid threw a tire at a staff's car, and just egenral defiance until I showed up.

I guess when I showed up out of the blue, the residents all scattered and tried to look like they were behaving. I came in, stomped about like Godzilla and helped the staff of duty work through that the reason the kids were so horrid was because they didn't think she could keep order in the house. And after she started setting limits, the guys calmed down.

Today is VERY quiet and I'm here at work, doing reports and playing Dragon Warrior.

Tonight is weight-lifting. Anyone else lift?

Hi Rose ...

I'm at work also. One of my rare morning shifts. I guard an HIV resource center in downtown Vancouver. We're usually not open today but they have this little cavet in our security contract that if there are more then twelve people in the building then there also has to be a guard. Which means I get to hang around here in 'lith land and hone my photoshop skills while barely a dozen volunteers hudle together in the conference room of an empty office building learning about the ins and outs of the wonderful world of HIV.

Weight lifting, huh? I could certainly use some - I'm one ropy mo fo.

I'm here too.
Work's kinda slow, but I didn't get much sleep last night, so that's okay by me.

Had a kid in here who wanted to buy Battle Pope (a comic). I, unfortunately, could not sell it to him, as it's full of violence, nudity and swearing, which could really get me in trouble with an angry parent. I told him if he could get permission, I'd sell it to him. He came back in a few minutes later and asked if he could phone his dad to get permission. To which I agreed. When he called, he asked if I wanted to talk to the father, which I did, just to explain my position. And it was sooooo one of his friends on the phone. Amused me so much I actually sold him the comic. Hey, if the afore-mentioned angry parent ever comes in, I have a defense, and honestly, the kid's probably seen and heard far worse than he'll see in Battle Pope. Plus, BP is funny and everyone should read it.

The flea market was once again a bust. Sure, I saw some stuff, like an electric guitar, but I didn't have the money. I did get a buttefly knife, and two lockback knives for $12 so at least I didn't leave empty handed.

I remember wanting to buy an issue of Shi when I was 13 or so. The guy at the comic book shop wouldn't sell it to me because it supposedly had nudity or something in it. Now as far as I'm aware only the first issue had any nudity. Oh well.
