I heard (unconfirmed) that the fourth flight was brought down by F16s, but that there are still several planes unaccountred for, two of which were "lost" en route to LA. My friend Mia works in the tallest building there: she's been forced into work on pain of being fired. She is NOT impressed.

1358 - Jet airliner crashes into the World Trade Centre in New York.

1416 - A second airliner crashes into the second tower, causing a devastating explosion. Television stations show the dramatic pictures.

1420 - Reports emerge that the FBI is investigating reports of a plane being hijacked before World Trade Centre crashes.

1429 - First reports of casualties indicate that at least six people were killed, with at least 1,000 injured.

1430 - US President George Bush says: "We have had a national tragedy. Two aeroplanes have crashed into the World Trade Centre in an apparent terrorist attack on our country."

1432 - CNN reports that one of the planes was an American Airlines Boeing 767 that took off from Boston.

1443 - Abu Dhabi television reports it had received a call from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claiming responsibility for crashing two planes into the WTC.

1443 - Reports emerge that a plane crashed near the Pentagon, Washington - the heart of the American military machine.

1445 - The White House is evacuated amid further terrorist threats.

1450 - All airports across the US shut down.

1507 - The south tower of the World Trade Centre tower collapses.

1512 - UK Prime Minister Tony Blair describes the attacks in the United States as "the most terrible shocking event".

1525 - Car bomb explodes outside the State Department in Washington.

1527 - The north tower of the World Trade Centre collapses.

1530 - Reports emerge of a plane crash near Somerset County Airport, Pittsburgh.

Good news: The MTA (Trains) is working in Brooklyn Queens & the Bronx. Just heard on the TV. 8th Avenue Line may be working towards Brooklyn (A,C,E)but no word on the other Subway lines.

The G train runs from Queens to Brooklyn, Todd. Last Stop is Smith-9th, which is close to Park Slope. So if your girlfriend can walk over the bridge or get to queens somehow, she can take that train home.

the last instigators of a "pearl harbor" coined the term and got two A-bombs dropped on them for their trouble. "Code delta' presumably indicates that the U.S. military is in full swing, and eyeing Afghanistan. maybe drooling, i don't know. but i fear america's patriotic zeal almost as much as random terroist disasters... i'll still take the former over the latter, any day of the week, though.

I'm probably risking a major flaming here, but what do you think the response would have been from the majority of US or UK citizens if, say, their armed forces had destroyed a building of major importance in Iraq during the gulf war?

a lot of the smoke has cleared...still an incredible ammount, but I can see the bottom of Manhattan again...from the loft where I live, we have an unobstructed view of lower Manhattan, and can/could see the WTC clearly, it took up a large chunk of our view...it's so odd to look out and see nothing there, just clouds of smoke...smoke everywhere...it's slowly filterng across the east river, I'm fairly sure my headache right now is a result of this...

I can't say enough how this is terrifying, and witnessing this all happen is going to be etched in my mind forever...I could fucking see human beings falling from the building...you can see small fire balls floating in the sky... everyone is panicked... the whole world has suddenly changed.

christ, you just KNOW the middle east is going to be a radioactive pit by the end of the week....

If I was Iraqi, I would be celebrating, too. Think of it, youre having hospitals being bombed for years by US, civilians dying everyday and the whole world just ignores you...

wasnt it the day before yesterday that 8 people died in Iraqi due to US air raids?
