At least BBC have the sense to show it uncut in a later time slot as well as the earlier, cut version. The way C4 messed up Angel S1 was ridiculous.

Yeah, but the new slot aint so bad at all.

And the ad campaign,s good and vicious.

Now, if only we could MARRY the two approaches. Geddit? Marry...? Huh?

So, back do to the future of everyone's favorite show: DAWN THE VAMPIRE SLAYER....

Despite rumblings that next season will be Buffy the Vampire Slayer's last,
executive producer Marti Noxon told SCI FI Wire that she thinks an eighth
season of the UPN show is likely, even though its star's contract expires
after season seven. "I think that it's very likely there will be [a season
eight]," Noxon said in an interview. "I'm not sure if Sarah [Michelle
Gellar] will come back or not, but it's really up to UPN and 20th Century
Fox if the franchise continues. It would be very hard to continue the show
without her, but they might try."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer begins its seventh season in the fall-its second
season on UPN, after five years on The WB. Noxon took over as executive
producer in 2001, when creator Joss Whedon focused attention on the upcoming
SF series Firefly, which debuts on Fox in the fall.

I really hope they dont pull an X-files and continue the damn series after the star is gone...Make a new show, fine but dont beat a dead horse.

I don't think any of the current cast could really carry the show if Sarah left. If they brought back Faith, they'd have a chance. Hannigan might be able to, but Dawn, Xander, Anya, and Spike just aren't dynamic enough.

Just end it this season. They could end it like Herclues and Xena ended. Most of the loose ends were tied up in a nice little package and the main characters walked off into the sunset.

(thanks, Fly)

Gellar doesn't carry the show. It's an ensemble piece, IMBlatantlyDomineeringO. That's why season 6 sucked (because all the characters suddenly turned 2D), evne though it had the best opportunity for actual acting from Gellar since she sent Angel to hell (she wasted it, by the way, just in case you were wondering).

And I don't know HOW many times I have to say this... BUFFY DID NOT KILL ANGEL AT THE END OF SEASON TWO. You cannot kill a vampire by stcking it through the chest with a metal sword. Angel's blood was required to seal the vortex into hell, and when it did, he went with it. At no point did he die. It is very very obvious by watching the show. With your eyes.

Of course she didn't kill Angel. I mean, if she had killed him, he would have been a pile of dust instead of a guy with a sword stuck through his chest.

First off, apologies if this is repeating anything already said, but I've skipped most of the thread up to Runs' post about the videos as I'm trying to avoid any S6 plot details that I haven't already spoiled for myself.

Some of this ties in with a point made in a previous Buffy thread. Someone said that, on the strength of her performances throughout Buffy, Gellar doesn't seem to be a particularly impressive actor. I've got to say that I'm not convinced simply because, IMO, Buffy herself is a deeply uninteresting character. You'd think that any character who's died twice, been to heaven and hell, fallen for a vampire, etc., couldn't possibly be boring, but somehow Buffy is. Try and describe the character's personality and, other than coming up with some basic 'do-gooder, hero' stereotype, it's damned near impossible. Without the arse-kicking super powers she'd be nothing.

The show (sigh, IMO again) has always worked best when it plays to the strengths of the supporting cast. They're interesting enough that you give a shit about what happens to them. Which is very likely why I think the majority of S4 stank; with the exception of a couple of Willow-based eps (the Oz/Tara ones) the secondary characters were given absolutely nothing to do, the plots focussing entirely on Ms Summers. I suspect that it's more to do with the script writers not being able to get a handle on the character (the only occasions now where I find myself caring about the main character's predicament tend to be the Whedon-scripted ones), but Buffy without Buffy could very easily work well.

You're right. Buffy is boring. She really hasn't changed all that much from the first season. I suppose you could say she's defined by her job. She goes out and kills stuff. On occassion, she has sex with a vampire.

The supporting cast have grown. I think the biggest change has been Willow's. Willow started out as a shy, bookish, wallflower type and changed into some sort of outgoing, confident, mega-witch.

If they do continue Buffy without Buffy, they need to keep most of the cast. It just wouldn't be the same if they brought in all new characters. I think they need to bring back Johnathan. He'd probably make a fine addition to the Scoobies.

Would they still call the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though? Cause that would be retarded if it were really, Dawn the Vampire Slayer or Faith the Vampire Slayer but with Buffy's name stuck on as the title... and changing the title would make it a different show... ah, they should just end the thing and do a movie!

Well, it won't be Buffy anymore will it? It'll be Dawn's show ('Dawn Demon Hunter' or something equally silly). I don't care - I'm just interested in how Whedon and the gang are going to wrap up the main narrative (and by that I mean the Buffy driven narrative). The characters can do what they like after that. I'll either like it or I won't, but it won't be the same show.

I'm interested to understand exactly what you meant by "2d" Jack? Do you feel the characters were stronger when the contents of their id weren't plastered all over the screen. Did you enjoy the tensions that generated? Do you feel they made the characters more fleshy, more real? I know what you mean (although I really disagree that Gellar's a bad actress), but I think I mainly enjoyed s6 in a " aaah, the pleasures-of-the-trangressive!" kinda way. I really, truly believe the characters had to clear up their bullshit before they became adults and we could get on with the final series. I think their internal garbage was starting to fester and stink a bit. I guess I think of s6 as a good spring clean. Sure, the scoobies were reduced to their "primal", motivational urges, so to speak, but I think that was okay for one season, esp if it means (and I think it does) that we can start the new season with a nice, fresh, well-scrubbed vibe. I got the same kicks out of 6 that I got outta "Doppelgangland" when Oz kills Willow, the vampires have taken over Sunnydale and the master breaks Buffy's neck. I guess you just feel that letting the scooby's basest desires run wild and screaming through the streets was a bad thing..... But I say: "Go Buffy! Fuck Spike! Willow take over the world! Xander, give into your insecurities..." Just for a little while.....

i just want to know how his human body was not destroyed in the hell dimension.
if buffy died, and her soul went to heaven, what happens when a human body with a soul and a demon goes to hell?

I don't think you should lose any sleep over it. Buffy's more like a soap than it is Star Trek.

Well, there are lots of perfectly normal people with bodies and souls in the Hell dimension (and there are Hell and Heaven dimensions - a number of them). I imagine that, since other dimensions are precisely that, different ones have different physical laws. Buffy ended up in one which did not have corporeality.

Better not plan on seeing Whedon take home a much-deserved emmy this year...

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (sciences?) sent out ballots that left off "Once More With Feeling," even though that episode is in the running. Apparently they send out an addendum later, but still, that's got to have some effect on the people making decisions....

Fix! Fi- No, damnit, can't bring myself to care. And the comments from Noxon about wanting to continue the series just give me another reason not to like her...
