speaking of Doom Patrol, i stumbled on this classic bit the other day:
"The saddest thing that has overcome the comicbook
industry is the utter lack of respect for the work of
others that has become something of a badge of
pride for certain "professionals". I have always had
one rule almost above all others: whatever is
happening in other titles is what I will use if I need to
reference those other titles, even if I don't like
what's happening. Others feel not so obligated,
apparently. I have lost count of the number of times
stories I have done -- even works currently in
progress -- have been torpedoed by other writers
being "cute". And, of course, in this InterNet Age
there are far too many pinheads who are quick to
seize upon any such "proof" that DC or Marvel are not
"supporting" my work.
feh
...
Face it -- for the most part, when you say "comicbook
professional" what you mean is "unprofessional
yahoo who is more concerned with making a name
for himself and masturbating all his emotionally
retarded fans than paying any attention to the history
of the titles, the characters, or the work done by other
creators."
And we wonder why comics are in trouble?"
what triggered Byrne's rant? the fact that a magazine cover in Identity Crisis made reference to pre-reboot Doom Patrol characters, blatantly disregarding the fact that they no longer existed in the new DP continuity as established by his current run on Doom Patrol.
so, yes, he's ranting about the fact that other writers have the temerity to ignore the hard work he's been doing ignoring the work of others.
whoo. that's a classic, even for him. |
