Where were you published? Paper or E? The last big article I read was in the now closed key64... (Which I mentioned in a thread here...) I've been behind my online reading over the holidays and was pretty shocked to see how it's been blowing up here.
-/ot-

I sure as hell haven't contributed much meat to the bones of barbelith, especially recently, but have been enjoying some lighter stuff in Convo, trying to talk a bit of music, and reading Little People.

I've been ignoring Stallion mostly because I'm not one to yell at people for being ignorant and immature. When someone mentioned a couple of months back he may be flyboy I decided to agree with that and pretty much stay away.

I attempt to not post shit and make the place worse even if I don't post gold and live up to the place's standards. I still get a laugh now and then and maybe even learn a thing or two.

It's funny, but I am starting to see Barbelith a little like reality TV: Bad, scripted fluff which is supposed to be real and you watch anyway because you can't help yourself. Which is funny because I don't watch reality tv (Other than home reno hgtv stuff and discovery channel)

I'm dissapointed because I was an off and on lurker before I attempted to join only to find that the place was dying a lingering death. I suppose I have been too lazy to actively seek another community that has such a broad range of interests and (in theory) standards. S'funny: I'm a Rat who tends to hop on to sinking ships...

Think that Coates has gathered enough data from this experiment and is ready to upload his findings to the mothership he's no doubt constructed?

Personally, I would co-sign any missive directed to Tom, asking for the board to be closed or rendered archive only. It might not have much effect - though possibly Haus' voice has some traction with Tom? - but I think it's worth doing. It would at least allow those of us who were involved, emotionally as well as practically, with the board a bit of long overdue closure.

I think there's enough oldtimers still in regular contact to get quite a substantial petition together.

Oh dear. I am not keeping up with the board at all these days, manage to post something vaguely positive once in a few weeks in whichever interesting thread catches my eye, but not even reading most of the threads. Not aware enough to have realized until now that the vomit described above was being smeared across other bits of the board. Ick.

I've been out for a couple of weeks.

Strep throat - don't let it happen to you.

Plus, moving.

I've yet to read anything beyond Policy. I take it things have taken a turn.

Anyone else care to try simply deleting offensive posts?

It's a functionality we still have, after all.

Ah, sorry g. I've just come into this thread to say that I've sent the ban request to Tom, pending agreement from Haus, as I'd given it a couple of days and nobody had argued against the idea of booting.

If that's changed, then I'm sure Haus can jump in and ask Tom not to push the button. I'm still all for it, though, but it should take agreement from both of us to get it done.

Grant - I'm moving this one over to the "Intervention" thread, since we have a couple of parallel discussions going on basically the same ground.

Ban by all means!

Don't apologize!

Above two posts put forwards for deletion by another mod, I'm agreeing. Alex, you were doing so well when you voluntarily disappeared from the board a couple of months ago. If you find it impossible to continue doing that, at least stay in Comics, as you claimed you were going to some time ago.

Oh come on. There are less hard-edged ways to bring up the (applaudable) fact that you've had something published surely?

No, i think that was a shitty comment Alex to be honest.

Almost everything that Alex has posted in the short time I've been a poster here has either annoyed or offended me; however, in this case I think it's worth pointing out that his post was actually a direct quote from this site, advertising a book which apparently includes Mordant Carnival among its authors. Given that it was Mordant who told us that she had had an essay published, I'm not really sure why quoting the blurb from what appears to be the relevant volume is seen as so offensive. That being said, the last sentence of his post does have a rather unpleasant tone to it.

I'm quite aware of the book. It was the post itself along with the snarky comment i thought was shitty.

That's how he do.

With hindsight, I think I read;

"Ooh did you get one of your essays published Mordant? Gosh blush nice of you to ask yes thanks I did" as a more bullish line than it was intended to be.

As in "You didn't think I could do it, did you, you losers? Well now I have!"

So yeah, I could have framed my remarks, to the extent they were necessary (not at all perhaps) a bit better.

And I've got no reason to wish Mordant Carnival anything but the best of luck with the book. Even if 173 pages for thirty one quid does seem a bit steep.

My apologies then, for any offence caused.

And that's it. Any more grovelling and I'll be off to Amazon.

Well, is my face red! I hope nobody else read so much into that little aside. The PS was meant to be more an acknowledgment that the post could be read as a bit of a plug. I can see how someone might get the wrong end of the stick though.
