Scroll scroll down, I have not seen this denouement.

I believe that all things tie in the end.

Just finished it:

The first forty minutes with this half-assed build-up with the Crucible and the Reality Bomb (really, RTD? that was the best name you could come up with?) was all right. I liked seeing the Doctor's face when he realized he pretty much makes killers out of his Companion when he leaves them alone. Of course, Martha's face when she first sees Rose is pretty awesome. It's kind of like when you meet that ex of your former flame and you want to hate her, but she's just so damn cool.

Certain fates worked for me. I wanted to be happy for Rose but agree it was pretty creepy instead. So, no thanks.

Sarah Jane's ending was perfect. She will always love the Doctor but she has a life of her own now.

The bit with Mickey, Martha, and Jack? If that's the new team Torchwood, then I am so there. It's about time Torchwood got some useful people.

I liked the Donna ending. I really did. I thought it was sad. (Of course, it helped that Cribbins stole the show.) I understand why people are hating on it---it's a bit of a cheat---but I dunno. It felt right to me. I mean, really, didn't you feel a bit sad for Ten when he was trying to say goodbye to her and she was wittering away on the phone? It's as he said: she will be remembered throughout history and throughout the universe as a savior and that's better than nothing.

And the towing the Earth bit? BRILLIANT. That's how a Tardis works, bitches. Woot!

What's wrong with calling it 'The Reality Bomb'? It's not like there'd be anyone left to laugh at the Daleks for being crap with the name-calling after it went off is there?

I suppose, but really!

The Reality Bomb is exactly what it should be called.

Just occurred to me: we never really saw Rose interact with Mickey, did we? How awkward that final break-up must've been.

The reality bomb was great, and perfectly named, and towing the Earth was the highlight of the episode, as sublime and perfect as any moment in the series to date. Of course, I also loved the 'JesuDoctor' of last year's finale, so I'm susceptible to that sort of Davies magic.

As Transfer has pointed out elsewhere, if you're going to use the Earth as your ultimate weapon then it has to be towed by the main characters and end up in its original position without so much as a scratch. Those are the rules as set forth by Gainax and it's good to see them being adhered to here.

I quite liked that we Mickey saw him saying goodbye to Jackie instead. He's come a long way since getting kidnapped by the Autons has ol'Mickey and Jackie's probably been more supportive than Rose ever was. I loved how he just nonchalently nods to the Doctor on his way out.

God damn me, with Martha and Mickey I'd actually be less sneery about Torchwood 3.

It'll still be Torchwood, so the operative word for everyone there is "less".

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
08:36 / 08.07.08
Oh no, I was quite surprised that Mickey said goodbye only to Jacks, but it also proves that Mickey finally figured out that no matter what he said, no matter what he did, he would never be as important to Rose again.

My Mom Thinks I'm Cool
12:15 / 08.07.08
I kind of hated Jesus Doctor, but I really liked Team Tardis. Something about it was kind of cute rather than pompous. And I have always wondered why the Tardis flies like a schoolbus on a bumpy road.

I get somewhat annoyed by the attempts here and there to paint the Doctor as a bad guy. There was a lot of that with Martha's mom for a while too. He's dangerous! Everyone he hangs out with gets hurt!

come on people, he's saved the world and for that matter the universe about a skillion times. without him - as we see in the Donna Turns Right universe - all those bad things still happen, only they don't turn out mostly all right in the end.

when they were showing the montage of all the people who've died in NuWho I was like "really? these people (mostly) valiantly sacrificed their lives to save planets full of other people, and that makes the Doctor a bad man? he's like the Daleks because he makes people into...heroes? fuck off." The Doctor empowers people so they say "hey, maybe we can build an anti-Dalek gun instead of hiding in the corner under a table going 'meep! aliens! the next time." that's not a bad thing.

But how often does he save the world, vs. point out to nearby lesser beings that the world is about to get reamed, and then they throw themselves on the grenade, physically or morally?

Also, it occurs to me that 10.2 is a sort of handbanana. The more I think about it, the less happy I am with the finale. Hopefully next season will be better.

I balance the small things that are sometimes wrong with Who against the big things that it not only gets right, but is perhaps the only programme to even try to do. No other sci-fi programme that I've watched has been able to make fun of things that are laughable whilst also taking things incredibly seriously which deserve to be.

I get somewhat annoyed by the attempts here and there to paint the Doctor as a bad guy.

I've always seen it as more of an attempt to show that the Doctor isn't perfect, he has flaws. Which makes his world-saving more impressive.

when they were showing the montage of all the people who've died in NuWho I was like "really? these people (mostly) valiantly sacrificed their lives to save planets full of other people, and that makes the Doctor a bad man?

Not necessarily, but remember that montage happens whilst Davros (who's most definitely a bad man) is basically doing everything he can to push the Doctor's buttons by stirring up the his war-guilt. Davros knows exactly where to hit the Doctor, right in the Companions.

In a twisted sense he's right though. It's why Tegan left the TARDIS in the Classic show. The Doctor's wacky adventures often end up with a whole lot of people dying in very nasty ways, and their deaths may not be the Doctor's fault but, at the end of it, there's a whole lot of people who've died with the Doctor right next to them saying "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.".

Obviously the Doctor is a good guy, and that's why Davros's words hit home. Because the Doctor is terrified by the possibility that it might be true he might be this callous calculating creature that sends lesser mortals off to die whilst he goes ever on.

Whereas JasonStathamDoctor11'd simply punch Davros in the cyber-eye and call him a prick. We'll be seeing that in 2010.

The penultimate episode was vastly superior.

And ffs, Donna should have had a happily ever after. Lazy scriptwriting.

On the whole, I say that this season was awesome. For me, there were very few low points (something about the Sontaran two-parter wasn't ace as it could've been and the Doctor's Daughter felt like a cheat), but what really sold me for me, inexplicably, was Tate. She was really good. I enjoyed her as a Companion so very much, it's a shame she's gone.

Ah, well. I look forward to the Moffat season to come.

FYI: aside from the Christmas special, when do you think they'll be showing the four specials through 2009? They never said.

Heh.

Not to detract from Doctor Who (which is indeed wonderful) but you might find your appetites sated by watching more cartoons. I love Who for the reason you've mentioned and I'm ecstatically happy for it to be one of many shows that work beautifully in that respect. There are other shows sporting that great mix of nutty, emotionally involving, can't believe what I'm seeing pulp sci-fi with great characters and edge-of-your-seat reveals.

Oh yes indeed. Anybody who is a bit sore about how things wrapped up here, about how it (perhaps awkwardly) cleared the slate should download and watch the Dr. Who Confidential "River Runs Deep" that goes with the second of Moffat's two parters.

They should watch it and take a long, cool draught of Squeeeeee.

El Directo speaks with an unforked tongue.

I've not been the greatest convert, because I'm terrible at keeping stuck to long stretches of anything, but I can quite honestly say that's the truth for anything I've been turned on to by the Barbelith Anime Crew (you all know who you are). Some of the best TV I've ever watched.

By, like, a fucking mile.

I wish I were more of a fan of anime (I do have ones that I absolutely love, BTW), but alas, I am not. Instead, with Who over for a while to come, I return to prowling for other TV shows that I missed out on and might interested in (this week, season two of Rome).

I haven't seen any of this season's Confidentials so I shall seek them out.

Julie Gardner has been calling them the summer specials in recent interviews. People with "sources" on the Doctor Who Forum seem sure that there's on special early in the year, and three specials broadcast during Christmas. Whatever it is, they don't start filming them 'til January.

So, one in early spring perhaps, with the rest more towards Christmas? Hmm.

Eureka fits in that scheme, too. Great actors, lots of Science Fiction and a well balanced mix of comedy and drama. Season three to start end of this month!

Pretty pls?

Wasn't the broadcasting plan going to be for bank holidays? I could be incurably FAIL on this and they could have changed their minds, but I thought I heard it somewhere...

Just thinking, you have to hope that after the close of the last episode the Doctor phones Mickey, Sarah-Jane, Captain Jack, Martha, Rose and Doctor 10.2, his daughter and whatever is left of UNIT and explains that he's had to wipe Donna's mind and please to not try to communicate with her or it'll make her head explodey.

Uhoh, you forgot Gwen. And if you forgot her, the Doctor might too. And Jack might also not think of it, and then Gwen will do a Torchwood.

But with this show, nothing is final anyway, so I fully expect to see Donna in season four again. After three specials, the Doctor (i.e. the scriptwriters) will have had enough time to think of a way to restore Donna´s memories without her keeling over.

That's just it, after a season like the last one, do they need a reason? They can just have him spout a bunch of gibberish as he shoves her finger into a socket or a bit of light sparks in her ring and then we're back to Flowers for Algernon.
