Well, if you would just trust your kind friends to help you swap it out for a new one... would it kill you to get out once in awhile?

Blimey!

Well, something good my have come out of this if The Sun is going to move towards being more friendly to ethnic groups, although as I pointed out to someone when talking about this last week The Sun doesn't have much of a problem with people of a different skin colour as long as they're British, it's foreigners that they hate. But as they don't usually mention people from non-white ethnic groups unless they are talking about terrorists, terrorist-suspects or people they decide to accuse of being terrorist-sympathisers something like this article is welcome.

As long as it lasts as long as their obsession with paedophiles obviously.

That's a story I never expected to see; and I never expected to genuinely think, as the paper's slogan sometimes had it, "well done my Sun". I'm really surprised but maybe a valuable public debate and reconsideration of British attitudes and identity actually has emerged from this series.

Alternatively, they were just tickled pink at the opportunity to put a whole lot of hate speech on the front cover...

Mm. In the same way Heat magazine publicly 'applauds' celebs who 'say "stuff the diet"' by putting unflattering photos of them on its front cover.

No, let's think positively, The Sun has given it's first three pages to an anti-racism story. Doesn't make up for years of Muslim=Terrorist propaganda but it's a baby step in the right direction.

It also sounds as though now she's out of the House Shilpa is being a bit more forthcoming about what she thinks about Jade and the others behaviour to her...

I got a taxi to a job interview from the station in Leamington Spa, and the Sikh taxi driver told me that Shilpa got £350,000 to appear in Big Brother. I could tolerate a lot for £350,000. I think it would make me very magnanimous.

He also said to me, "my daughters are educated like you and they don't think much of this was Jade's fault because she hasn't been educated and she is poor. Our community thinks what Jo and Danielle said was much worse." I agree with him. I also wish that, as he rightly pointed out, someone had brought up the very British habit of eating Macdonalds with your fingers.

He also told me Shilpa's folks have invited Jade over to Mumbai. Oh how I wish I could secretly watch that little visit. I don't know where he got this information from, but he was certainly the font of all knowledge on Big Brother. I didn't even bring it up, he did!

I would agree with him that, generally speaking, Jo and Danielle's digs at Shilpa (which tended to happen behind her back) were worse - in terms of 'classically' racist sentiments - than what Jade said. However, I think Jade and, to an extent, her mother and partner, were instrumental in creating and maintaining the atmosphere in which aggressive 'othering' of Shilpa became acceptable. Without Jade, Jo and Danielle may well have harboured poisonous thoughts about Shilpa and perhaps even expressed (some of) these to each other, but I'm not sure they'd have been as bold in their racism or taken such evident glee in her scapegoating.

It's only now that she'll be privy to the full extent of it.

Reading Mrs V's OK! magazine today, I see that Jade has offered 'to approach the Indian people face-to-face and apologise for all the pain and hurt that I've caused them'.

Now, let's see, there are what, a billion people in India? So if Jade approaches each indidvidual one of them, face-to-face...I can see that keeping her busy (and hopefully off the telly) for a long, long time...

Sounds like a plan to me.

Time to get on the blower to the Hertfordshire P.D.?

Apparently the "dodgy clips" referenced are stuff that wasn't shown... not even on the live feed (remember, there are cameras everywhere in the house, not just the ones you get to see even on the paid-for stream, and the housemates aren't always in the same room).

My thoughts exactly, WP.

If any TV execs are listening, I promise to subscribe to whatever channel shows it. And I'll force others to do so, at gunpoint, if necessary.

Jo O'Meara reveals how being a racist was so mentally taxing.

"I wanted to kill myself. I'd had enough of that show and what it had done to me. I just couldn't carry on living. Channel 4 weren't there for me. They left me to die while they counted their pound notes and raved about ratings."

I can see how difficult this is for her. Having been an s-club pop-tart she's not used to thinking for herself and is lost without being told what to do.

"All I wanted to do was relaunch my career and save my home. Instead I was turned into the most hated person in Britain. And for what? Nothing! I actually did hardly anything on that show, but it made me look like some monster."

Meanwhile, how are things going for Jade in India? Whoops!

Big Brother rapped over race row.

The watchdog found that Channel 4 made "serious editorial misjudgements" in its handling of the incidents involving Indian actress Shilpa Shetty.

Just caught the end of "You Can't Fire Me, I'm Famous!" on BBC1, starring Jade in the hotseat. Best quotes that show that she hasn't really learned anything

"Well, I'm not a racist and I didn't mean it racially"

quickly followed by

"I'm sitting here now thinking of plenty of worse things that could have been said"

You don't even have to put it in a bad context.
