I live rurally, and it's nice and all, but not without it's own problems. We've got spring water, which is also nice in a way, but really... not sometimes. I make jokes that the water tastes so good because of the salamander shit. Which, I realize, is not that funny. I was running the water just now, and suddenly the flow cut down to a trickle. I thought the pump was failing or something, but I tried the bathtub and water blasted out. So I took the screen off of the faucet in the kitchen and what did I see plastered across the screen but the lovely mottled skin of some part of a salamander covering 3/4 of it.
I don't think there's a way to get this system really pristine without spending thousands of dollars I don't have. Drilling a well is expensive, and building a whole new cistern might not even solve the problem. And honestly, I don't want to destroy the habitat. But for fuck's sake. |
