... the burlier charms of Mr Tulip

Mmmm...

I'm not sure Ser(v)alan is a big chubby-chaser, and I wonder whether he disregards the tending-to-endomorph wunderkind, Paul and Ruth on grounds of less-than-skinniness...

It did seem perverse that he was penalising them for showing any kind of comradeship or team loyalty. Isn't that a quality he'll ever want the final winner/employee to show? Being dog-eat-dog competitive and fighting your own individual corner isn't a great approach in business, I wouldn't have thought.

Syed's team handed in their order books late because Syed's ego disrupted traffic flow across London.

I do hope he's going dahnnnn...

A whinger, a liar and a planner, says Margaret. Hehe.

"You're certainly a performer" says Salan, and Syed doesn't get it.

Still, without that last deal (even cut by 25%) they would really have lost with total sales only at about 1500 or so. So it did really pay off to get in late (or would have if the other team had sold slightly less).

Sir Alan apparently DOES like liars...

Better than whingers and planners anyway. The only thing Syed has going for him that I can see is the cute butt and I doubt that floats Big Beardy Al's private yacht.

Ansell floating like Baloo in the swimming pool at the spa. Lahvly! Sharon says he'll win. I wonder.

I dream an impossible dream...

"I grew up in East London"

"That's why you're fired"

How many times can I listen to Syed tell someone he's from East London before my mind dies? Why didn't Sugar do me a favour and just fire him for trotting out the same fucking speech every episode?

Tryphena Absent
22:03 / 12.04.06
Of course SirAlaaannn is prone to trotting the same frickin bullshit speech out every episode so he probably wants to adopt the pervy arsehole and hug him close every day as Syed yet again fails to sell anything until he finds another naive businessman to wrap in his web of lies.

Not in the Face
07:30 / 13.04.06
I think Syed is the counterpart to the self-made entrepreneur of Italien ancestry of last year, whose name I can't remember. SirAlan seemed to like him until it came to the question of 'if you're so good at making money for yourself why come and work for me?' I reckon he'll last another 2-3 weeks then be out, unless his competitors conspire to smother him in the middle of the night.

I also think Paul is losing it - the fantastic range of facial expressions he used last night show a man who doesn't care if he wins or not, or even looks good, he just wants it to be over

No comments on last week's Badgertastic episode? I was in a b&b in Cornwall with no net access - what's your excuse? Ahem.

Much as I would like to see Syed fired (out of a cannon, once a day, into a brick wall), I think it had to be Tuan last time, if only for that awful moment...

PUNTER: "What's the traffic noise like?"
TUAN: (gesturing towards the window with sulky apathy and contempt) "You can hear it."

Badger to win!

Hattie's Kitchen

I want to bump boobies with the Badger, she's awesome.

I reckon Michelle may be joining her in the final - Syed to get fired this week, and then it's the interview stage next week. I think Paul will go first, followed by Ansell, leaving Ruth and Michelle in the final. NO WAY will Syed survive the interview stage, as it will show him up to be the lying cheating scoundrel he is. So I reckon he's for the chop this week.

Aaaah. Nice one, Siralan. Yay for the Badger! Ruth was absolutely radiating anger at Syed in the boardroom. And that shot when they were outside the boardroom waiting for the final verdict, well... if looks could kill.

Now to see what Mr Grasshopper Brain has to say for himself

OOOH, YAY! The "interview" episode next week! My favorite!

So, down to the final four. Who to win, then? Ruth looks pretty good, but I just don't think SirAlan likes her enough. I mean he almost kept Sayid for heaven's sake!

Thoughts?

20:28 / 26.04.06
I'm not sure Servalan likes women much. It's certainly not going to be Michelle and, based on this week's episode, I suspect the other two are going to have the edge over Ruth too. Having said which, I'm not sure Servalan likes fat people either...

Mourne Kransky
20:28 / 26.04.06
Ruth did herself no favours in the board room this week but her loss of cool might have been just that she feared competition with Syed, for whom Sirvalan clearly had a soft spot.

I'm liking Paul less as we see more of him. Michelle is annoying and not a nice piece of work. Leaves Ruth and Ansell to fight it out. She's clearly a strong contender. Ansell has had a good deal with the editing though. as did Tim last year. That might betoken something.

I liked Paul's He De Hi dancing this week. And his furry manboobs.

Hattie's Kitchen
21:34 / 26.04.06
I think this is Ruth's for the taking for sure. Out of the remaining 4, she's the one with the most impressive commercial experience and even though she lacks creativity, she's proved she can organise, plan, consult and get her hands dirty, and obviously she can sell like a demon. Ulitmately, that will override any perceptions about what Siralan thinks about women in business. She's also proved she's not afraid to fight her corner and highlight her strengths, which, at the risk of generalising about women in business, is kind of rare.

Michelle, from what I've seen in the tasks, has been happy to ride on Ruth's coat-tails to get this far, and I'm not exactly sure what her strengths are. That she's lasted this far has been down to luck more than ability, in my opinion.

Despite the impressive feat of having never been taken into the boardroom, Paul is far too much of a wide-boy to be taken seriously - he's not in the same bullshitting league as Syed but his sales patter is very limited and patronising, and he's also demonstrated a total lack of respect for women in charge.

Ansell has been happy to remain in the background, and although he's good at selling, his one stint as PM showed that he can't manage other people effectively. Like Tuan, he's happy to take a backseat role and I think Siralan has seen this.

Therefore, I reckon it will be a Ruth-Michelle final, with Ruth as the winner.

And not just because she makes me moist in a special secret girl's place.

Therefore, I reckon it will be a Ruth-Michelle final

No way. I think Ruth may well be one of the final two, but Michelle's gonna be the first of the gang to diiie.

Hattie's Kitchen
22:04 / 26.04.06
Totally way.

Paul has never been in the boardroom. He's never had to take any flak for his performance on the tasks, has never had any feedback...once the interview stage comes around, and bearing in mind the interviewers are charged with the sole task of picking holes in CVs and abilities, I can imagine him getting very testy and flustered with any kind of criticism, and I think he will dig himself into a hole because of it.

Mourne Kransky
22:30 / 26.04.06
Summed Paul's psychological profile up pretty well there, I think, Hat. Of the last four, I don't care who wins as long as it's not eyes-of-a-serial-killer, voice-of-an-arrogant-vending-machine Michelle. I don't think it will be Paul and I don't think Big Al has any rapport with the Badger.

Ganesh
22:48 / 26.04.06
I don't think Michelle's particularly shone in anything so far, whereas the other three have established themselves as flesh-pressing super-salespeople. And okay, Servalan wants more-than-just-a-seller but I'm not sure Michelle's come to the fore in any other area either. Her stint as team leader (the Top Shop fashion task) was less than impressive, and there's a sense that she's survived this far via other people's coat-tails and/or not being as demonstrably useless/irritating as some of her peers.

I don't think she's impressed Servalan enormously to date, and I don't think she's going to pull anything out of the hat for the interview. I reckon it's gonna be Ruth and Ansell in the final; outside chance of Ruth and Paul.

I see what you mean Hattie. I liked the interview snippet from next week...

Paul: 'I alwys do well in interviews. People like me.'

Interviewer: 'Well, I don't like you.'

Looking forward to that! I think he'll crumble.

Saying that though, I don't think Michelle will do much better. Or Ansell who seems to be a non entity at the moment and hasn't really done much of interest at all the last few weeks. Is it just me or has he never taken off his sunglasses once?

I'd say Paul and Ruth in the end and i would like to say Ruth as the winner but i think it's going to be Paul. Just because Salan really doesn't seem to like Ruth.

Or maybe not. I think the problem is that they all seem to be all so crap. I didn't watch last years show but were all the contestants as bad as these? The guy who won last year seemed a sound person in the follow up show. The only person this year who looked like they could actually manage something was the lawyer who got kicked out weeks ago.

Anyway,

BADGER! BADGER! BADGER!

Paul is far too much of a wide-boy to be taken seriously - he's not in the same bullshitting league as Syed but his sales patter is very limited and patronising

I think I'd describe his sales patter more as straddling the charming/cheesy line: in the aforementioned Top Shop thing, for example, I thought he was actually quite impressive in his interactions with female customers (whereas Syed came across as a sleazy sex pest). I agree that he doesn't respond well to criticism or to the feeling that things aren't going his way - he crashed and burned on the flat-renting task - and this is likely to be his undoing. Ansell, by comparison, radiates the sleek calm of a hippo on Prozac. I suspect he's the nearest as yet to a good all-rounder.

She could manage to wear scarves like Daphne out of Scooby Doo. That seemed to be her principal area of expertise.

I thought last year's were probably worse in terms of irritatingness - although they seemed to have more energy somehow. This year's crop seem a bit more stolid/plodding by comparison.

I think i missed Ansells role as Leader.

Didn't he lead on the car-selling task? One reason it's unmemorable is that he was comprehensively outshone by The Badger.
