In fact, it was worse than it sounds. We totally got our asses handed to us. In fact, they were handing out OUR ASSES like Hare Krishnas hand out dinner.

And I really can't wait for the next one.

Raids rule!

I'm totally addicted to this game - I was up last weekend to 5am on Friday and Saturday playing it - playing it for fun! The thought of grinding for levels.. bores me just thinking about it.

I'm up to level 34 now with my hunter same level as I was with my Druid before stopping. Not going to happen this time, hunters are so much more fun.

I eventually managed to get the spider I wanted, it took awhile due to looks of lower level Alliance wanting to kill her for the drops...

Naraxis

And last night I borrowed 13 gold! And now I have this sword which doesn't have the best stats for Hunters but looks ace.

The Butcher

I even tried out Ventrilo (talking over mic) but didn't actually chat, it was a little strange. Also strange finding out that most level 60's aren't mature players - I'd gotten it into my head that high levels were old anti-socials like me but no at all.

I'd like to ramble on about all the great things I've been part of or seen but I'm already enough of a fanboy...

So hopefully I'll get to level 37 over the weeekend and get broken tooth (1 second attack speed FTW)

I'm all sad at the moment- apparently the Gates are opening tomorrow night at midnight on Khadgar, and I'll be at work. Which is a shame.

What's the gates?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
12:27 / 25.02.06
The Gates of Abn-Qiraj (not sure if I spelt that right)- it's a big in-game event which all the servers have been building up to recently- once enough of various types of "war effort" resources (bandages and stuff) had been collected and delivered to various quartermasters, the Gates could open- there's a new dungeon behind there, and stuff like that, but apparently the actual opening ceremony's quite spectacular.

Actually, it looks like it was supposed to be last night on the Khadgar server- according to their fora about 5000 people piled in to watch, and the server crashed. So not sure if they opened or not!

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Ah! Apparently there's a separate US Khadgar server- the European one is nowhere near opening the Gates yet. So I still have time to see it!

Imagine a cross between Lord Of The Rings and Black Hawk Down.
Would it look something like this?

Pretty much... the temptation to start shouting "Leeroy!!!" when it all began to go tits-up was quite overwhelming.

So did the Barbaloid get together yet in a group?

Also, what does the box look like when you buy it? I had planned on buying this a month or so ago, but there seemed to be a few different boxes, and city of heroes just had one and was twenty bucks.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I think there's just the one version of the game, whichever box you get- with free updates.

I just saved up enough to get a guild tabard. I am one DAMN sexy elf.

Did you guys miss me? I bet you did. Anyway, speaking of the Ahn'Quiraj gates opening, have any of you seen the mount that whoever rings the gong to open the gates gets? It's rather nifty.

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=52539
(There's a couple different shots of the mount on that page, the second one down is a better close-up shot.)

I too missed the gate opening, but from what I understand there wasn't much to get excited about. Apparently, the most vicious attack in the A.Q. arsenal was a vicious lag attack combined with a server crash status effect...

So will this be a unique mount in the entire game? Just one per server? Do they do things like that? As far as I know there are no unique items in City of Heroes for example.

As far as I know, whoever had constructed the staff used to ring the gong (a feat definitely requiring the assistance of your entire guild) and done so within 10 hours of the initial ring would get a mount.

So if I have to guess I'd say maybe three, four mounts per server at best.

Since I started playing WOW back in December, I've pretty much stopped reading comic books completely.

And it's not just that WOW has consumed all of the free time that I would normally spare for comic books. It's more like WOW has eliminated my desire for them.

I find that I still read fiction and listen to music just as much as always. There's probably been some drop-of in my desire for films and televsion as well, but it's my interest in comics that has been most clearly devastated by my WOW obsession.

Has anyone experienced similar drop-offs of non-wow interests?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Yes. I spend most of my free time playing video games, and once WoW came into the picture, that dropped off A LOT. I haven't bought a game in a few months (excepting the new Freedom Force, which I refuse to install due to StarForce), and I used to buy 5 or 6 a month. The only thing that's dragged me away is Half-Life 2 (which, to be fair, I did buy recently, but it was the Xbox version because the PC version crashes more than is reasonable)... which I'm nearing the end of. And I can hear WoW calling me back...

My account got closed for three days last month, due to my not having paid off my credit card bill in time... and boy, were those scary days.

I haven't been to Azeroth in a few days... but knowing I can is good. Knowing I can't sucks ass. And that can't be right. Horribly, horribly addictive game. But hey, it keeps us off the streets...

And yes, I'm getting WELL behind on comics.

I'm thinking we should look out for the possibility of in game transfers to new servers so we could play more collectively.

Frickin Patch, no more Aimed Shot animation!

Yeah I'm still hooked, I play most nights.

Like Tom said there's talk of a small fee server migration coming up soon and it might be worth thinking about, although I really like the server I'm on and my guild so would have to think long and hard about leaving.

I think I did create a character on the server Tom mentioned but my hunter just keeps calling me back.

Anyone seen the weather yet? I haven't - apart from the bugs and none of my addons working the only difference I've noticed is the slightly scary sky when you're in ghost form.

Nearly at 45 and then I can get my mega mega bow!

I'm also quite attached to my guild (I've got the tabard now, and damn fine it is too!) but would like to play with Barbeloids- maybe a new character beckons.

There's a brand spanking new sever on the way apprently which will fill up quickly by the sounds of things, maybe a good idea to wait for that and get a nice little Lith Guild started... or we could just wait for the whole new version whenever that's out because everyone wants to be a Blood Elf!

Wisps?

Wisps?

I don't have WoW, but I'm working on it guys. Hopefully I'll be here soon... but I'm debating whether toi get a shit PC just for gaming, or purchase a Mac laptop with a decent processor speed. On what platforms do you all play? And has anyone else had as much trouble just trying to get on?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
21:20 / 31.03.06
I had no problem getting on- sometimes (usually weekend afternoons) you have to wait a few minutes to get into the realm, but I keep weird hours and usually it's no problem at all.

Indeed. Bring on the Blood Elves.

Oh, and I play on the PC. My tech-fu is so limited that I'm probably the only person in the world who thinks Windows XP isn't quite patronising enough. But it's the closest there is right now.

Gaaah. Hadn't played for a couple of weeks, and thought I was free!

But I logged on last night, and with brief pauses for sleep and walking the dog, I've pretty much been in Azeroth ever since.

In fact I think I'll head back there now.

So haven't been around in a while reading the old Barb, but it was nice to see this thread and know I'm not alone in my WOW madness!

Also really nice to see you finally got in to it too Stotie after my repeated attempts at coercing you to play the game in your "it's either that or city of hero's" moments.

I've been playing since the EU release, helped along by a friend of mine that, on many occasions, shouted "you have to play this game" down the phone at me. She works for Atari and played both US and EU beta's and I blame her for my lost life!

Anyway, like you guys have been saying, guilds are fun, raids are funnier esp. when you actually kill something. The game does however take on a different type of fun when you are a creator of a guild. Four others and I created a guild, spent about a week getting 50 people together and then headed out to raid those 40 man instances.
The first few weeks were fun, followed by a month or so of whining guild members and loot arguments, at which point the Guild Master and associated Officers suddenly released "wait 'master' 'officer' > 'member', this isn't a democracy" after that it's been pretty smooth!

--

Now I realise its been almost a month since anyone's posted so lets see what your all up to;

Any levels advanced? Any kills/cool goings on? Any disasters?

How do you find the weather?
"oh how pretty" or "god oh god stop melting my cpu"?

Is there any list of what servers you guys are on?

I love the weather. Darkshore seems so much more Darkshore in the rain, somehow.

Haven't played in a few days- work & puppy got in the way, but I'll be reeled back in in the next couple of days- possibly tonight, come to think of it.

I'm on Khadgar, but I'm thinking of starting a Horde alt on another server.

Come to Executus!

I'm pretty much owning now, I've got some excellent gear and Broken Tooth was finally found and tamed and he's leveling nicely. Last night I dinged 55 but it takes me awhile to level so I reckon it'll be another month before I hit 60.

I managed to level engineering to 300 the other day too, it was pricey but should be able to make some cash back from it if I can some nice patterns plus extra DKP's for creating repair bots when I get into the end game instances..

The webs all over the new Alliance race at the moment with 2 demon types being the main contenders, they look quite nice actually although some people still aren't convinced that I'll be one of the races that people are mentioning.

I think I'll create a priest when the new version comes out, seems like their always needed (on Executus at least)

Yeah basically I'm still hooked. Although playing as a female is getting a little tiring but that's a long story.

Yeah here they are with confirmation from Blizzard -

Draenei

Look quite nice to be honest, nice to have a more chuncky Alliance race.

Yep the new Alliance race is out, people tell me it completely breaks the lore, but hey I'm not that big into the lore side.

Chris Metzen talks about the lore changes here

//

On the weather side; i got sand stormed in AQ the other day, but I'm yet to catch anything other than sunny days outside IF or herb farming in Un'Goro.

//

I'm on Stormscale, Alliance Priest.
Just trying to decide if I should try a Blood Elf or one of these new Draenei when the expansion comes out.

Oh, yeah, baby! That sainted individual has my address, I've confirmed that my PC can run it, and I'm soon to join you lot.

Any advice for a soon-to-be noob on Azeroth?
