Just had my first ride on a Hippogriff... and now I'm level 10 I can have a pet! (Have to do a few quests first, according to the hunter trainer, but it's all good!)
And the sense of achievement when I sold the first batch of leather I'd skinned myself was almost embarrassing.

In a few days I think I'll start a new character to try out the PvP stuff- Vashj here I come!

I just picked this up myself. It really is an amazing and beautiful game. The high price is definitely worth it considering the huge amount of time you will likely spend playing it. I suspect it will cost me less than 25 cents an hour.

I love how so many of the quests are race-centric and class-centric. It not only helps you really explore the world and your character's place in it, but it gives each alt you play something special to look forward to. It's a nice change from City of Heroes, where everyone basically goes on all the exact same missions.

I'm currently playing a Tauren Druid on Kael-Thas and a Troll Hunter on Lothar.

I'm definitely up for the idea of joining other 'lithers. We could decide on a server and eventually start our guild.

Ah. Once again Barbelith's subtle anglocentrism rears its pasty head.

...damnit, I'm on the wrong Server.

I have a pet now!

A Nightsabre. It kills stuff for me. I give it fish. It rocks.

Bastard alliance with your bastard cool pets.

Though... once I get home from Grandma's, I'll be able to get on & train my kitty to *prowl* and, I think, *dash*. These abilities, Stoat, let our pets stealth and run fast.

I love how I keep getting distracted- I'll complete a quest, then before I get a chance to go back and prove it I'll run into some other people who have fun stuff to join in with. I'm probably sitting on about half a level's worth of XP right now, and just haven't had the time to go back and cash them in!

But you neeeeed higher levels! It's taking so long now to move up a level I just moved up to 34 about 30 minutes ago but it wasn't easy. I just found Desolace which is really tough and has big fuck off giants running around.

Has anyone checked out the Warcraft related items on ebay, it's quite scary. For example someone is selling a level 60 top of the range character for 400 quid...

I'm still enjoying it though but sometimes I think I'm on the wrong server, it's good but I wonder if there are better ones out there I think I should have looked around a bit before starting, I only went on this one because I might of mine was on it but she's hardly ever online now.

I still think a fresh start for all Barbeloids on a PVP server would be a good idea - maybe Horde seeing as I haven't been them yet...

Yes. I'm up for that.

Otherwise, I'm content for my Hunter to level up slowly... I've been reading on their boards about how bored Level 60s are... I want to have fun, not just amass a bunch of numbers and then find myself with a toy that gives me no pleasure any more. I'm hoping that at my current rate there'll be more cool shit to do by the time I reach the levels where apparently there currently isn't.

Among the new updates...

All Disorient effects have been renamed Incapacitate effects. This includes Gouge, Sap, etc.
All Confusion effects have been renamed Disorient effects. This includes Blind, Scatter Shot, etc.

I'm confused. Sorry, incapacitated.

I got sort of stuck in a rut with my Druid, the server I was on wasn't really that friendly and finding help for group quests was a bit of a nightmare but I've re-rolled (as they say) with a Horde Troll Hunter on another server and it's ace, lots of people chatting, lots of people teaming up and that to me is the best part of the game.

I wish I could decide on a pet though, someone suggested a raptor then cat and I've stuck with my cat for a little while now but I keep wanting to change to something else although apparently it doesn't make much difference anymore which is something the Hunters are really pissed about (all pets now have the same speed) - although I think I'm going to go for this dude here and stick too him - What pet have you picked Stoatie? What weapon skills did you decide on? I think I'm going to stick on Axe and Two-handed axes for now....

PET :

The Rake?

My troll hunter's got The Rake as a pet and I love him dearly. Great attack speed, can learn Claw and Bite, and then at level 30 gets Dash (Fast pursuit) and Prowl (Stealth like rogue).

He's the bestest.

Thought I'd pop my head in for a half-hour or so last night, just to go hunting and get a few XPs...

'twas mad! "Astranaar is under attack" they said! It was like the bridge in Apocalypse now- there were fireballs, spell effects going off all over- everyone running around in a mad panic, contradictory orders heading back and forth- 40 or so Horde (most of them at least ten levels above me- 'twas all a bit scary) against about the same amount of Alliance.

-it rocked.

Raids rock - I saw my first major one not long ago when around 40-50 alliance appeared at the Barrens. I like the fact that most higher levels will leave you alone if you sit down and watch, mostly due to them not wanting to lose honour.

Also on the Barrens, mounted Alliance all in formation roaring past me like something out of a Western. I really want a mount.

I'm up to level 20 on my hunter now and just discovered the joy of Dual Wield - sword/dagger - looks so cool. I wish I'd gone a hunter from the start, so much more fun than Druids.

You need to leave that Astranaar dump Stoatie! I got so sick of that place, so dark and miserable - take a little trip to the south and check out the bright and sunny Barrens.

Has the new Alliance character type been announced yet for the expansion? Also flying mounts!! FTW! (whatever that means)

I've recently rediscovered WoW as well... I'm on Doomhammer if anyone else is, currently really enjoying being a Tauren Druid. I didn't enjoy playing Rogue at all, though, just didn't suit me. I did enjoy being a hunter, it's a great class for PvE. I'm at the highest I've got (lvl 23), and I'm about to start exploring Ashenvale properly. I'll be doing that tonight, in fact...

I've certainly found tha Horde people are nicer, though, there are a lot less irritating kids, though there are a few people who insist on challengening you when there's enough mobs for both people, rather than grouping.

Happy Lunar Festival, everyone- I'm on my way to Moonglade to watch the fireworks!

I love the way WoW does this- like at Christmas (when I first joined) when it was Winter Veil in the game world, and you'd keep bumping into revellers in silly hats, and there were apparently magical presents under trees.

The moonglade looks lovely at the moment. It does seem a bit odd to be seeing non-druids there, though.

I think that's the thing that so compelling about WoW; it seems there's a part of my brain that's actually *been* there, not just seen it on a screen. I suspect in the last couple of weeks I've crossed the line from interested casual gamer to lost-cause. Oh well, it's nice in Azeroth.

Has anyone heard any more about this raid/quest that starts in moonglade and isn't impossible for lower-level people to join?

I'm surprised that no one really picked up on my comment about cost. Partly I'm curious, because it sounds a lot like Guild Wars for about five times the price (the monthly subs are equivalent to buying Guild Wars about every couple of months)...you must be getting something extra, but I can't imagine what it is.

Anyone able to do a compare and contrast?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
16:29 / 31.01.06
I can't really comment, as it's the only one I've ever played, so comparing and contrasting's not really an option. I certainly think I've been getting value out of my nine quid or whatever it is a month, though.

I've not played Guild Wars, so it's hard to compare directly, but I think the story and constant challenge are worth the money to me. It's also great to be part of such a huge and cohesive world - at the moment everyone is pulling together to collect resources so a new quest area can be opened up (each server is doing this individually). I've not had that feeling of actually working on a common goal with a huge community in any other online games.

WoW has stoppped me buying other games, too, so in that respect it's worth the money. The games industry even blamed their weak figures this christmas on WoW (and console supply delays).

I can believe that... I've bought one game since signing up for WoW, and I'd usually buy at least two on payday alone. Fuck, I haven't even bought The Movies yet, and I've been waiting for that for aeons.

It eats your life in a way that's a little scary. I tell myself I won’t play and then decide to log in to check my auctions and then someone send you a whisper and you’re running off through Ashenvale to check out the Alliance.

Moonglade was fun; I'd been there before with my Druid but never seen it that busy. And 4950xp for chatting to a Nightelf, can't be bad. I did get killed by a level 60 rogue however.

I'm terrible at close quarter combat; thankfully Hunters can keep a good distance (even more now that I added 2 yards last night on my talent tree).

Tell us your stats people, I'm curious to know what pet your using Stoatie? What talents are you using? What weapons??? Tell!

I got Humar the black lion the other night, well not night because I sat for about 3 hours waiting for him but he didn't spawn but when I logged in first thing the next day he was sitting there waiting, ice-trap and tame - all mine! Although I'm still using my elite Thunderlizard from WC...

Our server isn't doing to good on the collect good but apparently the NPC start to help from today or tomorrow so the totals should start to move, not that I'll be ready for any major battles.

As for the costs, I think it's worth it - you can spend hours playing, chatting or just exploring and when you get to the higher levels there's still more to do what with the huge bosses and dungeons (some take around 6 hours to complete apparently) but the main thing is the game is constantly changing, you'll never be able to complete it as new quests are added all the time....

I'm hooked again.

The thing I love about it (and btw, I'm level 19, and am still using the Nightsabre I first tamed, because I've grown quite attached to the bugger, and I'm still on daggers, as I'm attempting to develop my strategy so I can avoid hand-to-hand as much as possible by getting cool bow powers, like Venom Strike and stuff- and Hunter's Mark and Scare Beast are quite simply the best powers I've learned) is that you can log in for an hour or so- I've spent the last hour just hunting stuff to stock up on food for the nightsabre- or you can really get lost in the quests (the hour before that I was mostly being eaten by wolves in Felwood) or you can get into groups and help each other do stuff, or you can just join in the banter...

...it's got something to offer to cover most of the moods I'm in when I feel like gaming, unless I'm in a MUST FPS NOW!!! mode. And as you say, it's always changing. Loving the whole Lunar Festival shenanigans- I'm venturing deep into dangerous areas, purely to get some tokens I can then use to buy some festive clothing! And I've spent a shit load of money on fireworks, which actually achieve nothing, but look nice! And I love it!

World of Warcrack doesn't seem like such a cheap joke anymore.

Played my first dungeon/instance with a group today- it was ace. (Still three Corrupted Brainstems short, but I ran out of arrows- I went in there with EIGHT FUCKING HUNDRED, ferfucksakes!!!)

Great. Nice bunch of people- seem to be heavily Scandinavian on Khadgar, but what with everywhere else having better education than the UK, language never seems to be a problem.

There's something totally ace about being in a whole Tolkeinesque epic fantasy situation and then the guy who's been watching your back the whole time has to "go because my mum's back and I've been on the computer all day".

I've also now found the flight path to Stonetalon Peak, which means the quests I kept getting killed ON THE WAY TO are now easily accessible- for money. Which I can earn with my hunting 5k1772!!!

FTW = For The Win

I play a Night Elf Rogue on Kel'Thuzad (pvp servers are teh roxxor). I'm at level 31 now, finally tricked out in a fair ammount of blue gear, and helping run a huge guild.

Unfortunately Kel'Thuzad has been locked so no new accounts can join at the moment, mainly because of insane lag.

Yup I got the FTW thing the other day...

I managed to tame an owl at the weekend which was lots of fun considering the only low level ones are in the Nightelf starting area, was weird being back there again. I'm not sure if I'll keep him though I'm very fickle with my pets and like to have something different but he's only level 14 now and leveling him up isn't all that fun. I've already dumped Humar and I only got him last week.

I think I'm going to go back for a Shadowfang Keep wolf, I just love the howl.

Until I get to level 32 of course and can get my own gorilla and he'll only last until its Broken Tooth time - FTW!

A few clicks until level 27 and then I can get my full 6 extra yard range which makes all the difference.

Addictive though far too addictive and I still can't really work out why.

Hunters are much more fun though, I think I've used my level 34 druid once since starting the hunter and that's only because the realm was down.

Should anyone be interested / and-or want to hang out some time, I have three characters at the moment:

NORDRASSIL:
Pentheus (Lvl 41, Warlock Human)
Andromache (Lvl 3, Priest Human)

RUNETOTEM:
Semele (Lvl 5, Troll Shaman)

Seeing as your character on Runetotem is quite low maybe we could all start alt Horde character on there and meet up at some point?

Seems most people on here are Alliance anyway so it would be cool for everyone to see the game from the other side.

I'll create myself a shiny new Shaman.

Haven't got round to the Horde thing yet... in fact I was starting to think the fun was wearing off- then I logged on this evening for a couple of hours- I've now discovered a whole bunch of new places and quests, have two new people on my friends list, joined a guild and have a raid scheduled for tomorrow.

I've officially been hauled back in.

That raid was a disaster. A fun disaster, but a disaster. Imagine a cross between Lord Of The Rings and Black Hawk Down.

I believe the young people would say we got pwned.
