Well, as a conshistent addict in the thick of it for a long long time, I have to shay that Brewfest is BY FAR the most engaging, most rewarding, most intereshting of the Holiday Events generated by Blizzard for the World of Warcraft.

Brewfest utilizes the best ashpects of the Darkmoon Faire, and rampsh it up a hundred notches. The Brewfest Grounds at each city are a smaller microcosm of the larger event in Dun Morogh, with an area audio loop that's full of voices and laughter and jokes backed by a traditional "German" ditty.

The activities are fairly unique as well, as they require a great deal of conshistent interaction with a module. Mounts accelerate and deccelerate for example. You need to talk to NPCs in order to receive a beer mug.

Best of all, Blizzard learned a great deal from the successes of the daily quest programs. The result are games and quests in Brewfest that win tickets, that can be used to purchase all shorts of cosmetic items - exactly the right way to perpetuate a shense of inclusion in the festival.

I can only hope further holidays will be as involved and interesting.

As I was saying to someone yesterday, they've GOT to add a bunch of new Winter Veil stuff this year, or it'll be a real letdown.

Yeah, Brewfest feels kind of like how I always imagined Darkmoon Fayre was SUPPOSED to feel. It feels like a festival, where you're having fun and doing stuff that's not the same old stuff you do all year round. You know, what's the word I'm looking for? Ah yes. It feels FESTIVE.

And the chat channels, usually fucking irritating, are hilarious now.

That said, bits of it appear to have been disabled now- I know a couple of the quests were buggy, but the Dark Irons don't seem to be showing up anymore and some of the other quests are missing (I can only tell with the repeatable ones, obviously).

But it's still a lot of fun, and yesterday it RULED.

It apparently goes on until the 16th, and Blizzard have promised they'll fix the broken quests.

In the meantime there's still ram-racing, imaginary animal hunting and BEER.

I am quite enjoying Brewfest. The design has been well thought-out: the daily q brings you back each day, then you can hang around waiting for the Dark Irons (so it's a shame they have been zapped) and it seems the rewards (though largely useless) probably won't be impossible to get. It's nice that I'm also of a level where soloing into BRD to find the guy in the bar wasn't too hard.
I'm looking forward to getting those beer goggles... I think I can guess what they do. Don't spoil it.

Brewfest is so awesome. I had way too much giggles over the drunken Pink Elekk hunt.

I don't care too much about the ram mount, but I desperately wanted the full Brewfest outfit (hat, chest, boots), then decided I needed to have the side-splitting inducing goggles. So much fun.

Everyone heard about the next patch? Engineers get a flying machine mount to craft. And just when I was growing restless with that profession...a new goal to reach! It's so unreal and badass.

Oh, my arc/fire mage is 59 now. Could have been 70 by now but I've been going slow to let a friend catch up. Plus I need to earn 250 more gold at this point to get an epic mount at 60. Gold earning is such a pain sometimes.

I canceled my WOW account about 5 months ago. I think personally if I'd have played it casual just at weekends it would have stayed fun for a long time. I was however in one of those guilds where you raid 5 nights a week and everything else you do is about getting ready for those 5 days. Kinda zaps the fun after two years.

One thing i really did like was the holidays though, some of the items and quests Blizzard put in were down right fun. Ironforge mass snowball fights were a blast.

I'm actually totally back into my WoW addiction again. It's been a few hours every day this week, which it hasn't been for ages.

I'm pointedly staying away from raiding for precisely those reasons. While I would love to see some of those end game experiences (Illidan fight, Archimonde fight, etc.), it's just too serious and time consuming. I play a couple hours a night and a lot on weekends, but it's low pressure and on my own terms.

At the most, I'll do Kara or something, but I can't see doing the 25 mans or anything.

Well, I've hit the sweet spot where I no longer panic(!) that need certain gear to be able to play effectively. Blizzard may have shitty itemization, but I play three very off-spectacular characters.

Urthona, Balance druid, is visibly decked out in the teir two lookalike set, moose ears and all. He looks amazing and all the druids come up to me. Where did you get a spelldamage ROBE? they ask. From my loving and patient guild I says.

Aertho, Protection paladin, is 4/5 Righteous, and VERY close to being uncrushable. He makes mincemeat of the scariest of dungeons. I get a lot of requests to tank Karazhan, but I choose not to. One raiding schedule is enough.

Erthas, Arms warrior, is 52 and a pain in my ass. He's an enchanter, which alone is worth the investment to at least level for disenchanting purposes. I also plan on making him an inscriber with the next expansion, but I simply can't get behind the rage mechanic.

I've purchased Epic flight training for both Aertho and Urthona, and yes, it was worth it. Travel is such a big part of the game that getting trained up is the only thing that I stress is a must. That's not to say that I don't think Blizzard shouldn't reevaluate how mounts and training are afforded. It's our rides that keeps China in business.

Beerfest was excellent, and now Hallow's Eve is in full swing. With last years "tick or treat" event, they've added the Horseman Attacks! events in starter villages, and the ability to summon the Headless Horseman in the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard. Were it not for the broom mounts, epic rings, and the SWEET SWEET plate helm that occasionally laughs with the Horseman's voice, I'd say it was a poor followup to Brewfest. Regardless, the complexities of these holidays shows Blizzard is learning, and growing.

If any of you are mid-high 50's you could possibly ask to join a Horseman group and win a ring for use when you hit 70. If Erthas was a bit bigger, he wouldn't be such a liability. The event is easy, it's just a matter of stamina, and pre-BC gear is lacking.

I've so much to say about 2.3 around the corner. I've a 30 shaman I've parked in Brackenwall to see the opening of Mudsprocket... But do any of you have questions, concerns for your level, your class, the patch, etc?

Our guild raids for a couple hours a few nights a week. From time to time some of us put in more than that; but it's happening less and less. And we're working on Lurker and Mag. So it doesn't have to be all work and no play.

I had a protection paladin after BC came out, she was great, much better than the healing and blessing role of the old days. Being chosen to tank 5 and 10 mans over the guilds MT always made me chuckle.
My other main was a priest who I played, as usually happens, when we didn't have enough in the guild.
I was levelling a rogue too, but the levelling after doing two chars to 70 is basically the same and just a grind so I stopped.

We were up to Kel'Thuzad pre BC and post BC by the time I left they were just starting 25 mans. I used to love that rush from getting a boss down for the first time, especially if our team work gelled and we started and finished in one night.
It was a shame to leave a guild you were a founder of, but I just couldn't do it anymore. On the bright side it’s one thing I’ve done on my hypothetical list 'be a hardcore gamer', I left with good memories.

I will most probably buy the next expansion because I’m a whore for new content lol!

I'm finding myself a little conflicted in wow at the moment. I'm in a guild with real life mates, for the most part, which is great. The thing is that the guild has fairly only recently started raiding and is pretty slow in its progress. (Extremely slow, if I'm honest.) I'm not entirely sure why that is, although Kara has caused an enormous amount of grief within the guild - the guild leader blames people for not being committed, and the members blame the leader for not recruiting (really, for not being keen on other people recruiting) and being a poor leader, essentially. I led a Kara run the other week, which was both happier and more sucessful than usual...so I'm starting to get a bit suspicious of the guild leader pulling rank and citing his experience to justify a morale sapping style of leadership.

I guess this isn't helped by the fact that the guild leader is not actually one of the real life mates. Anyhoo, while it is fun to play with friends, it would also be fun to progress faster in the game, and see more endgame content. While I would feel guilty about leaving the guild and possibly causing the guild to splinter, I'm not sure I feel much better about waiting and hoping for someone else to do that in my place. What would you do?

Leadership is basically what breaks guilds, usually for the better.

My original first week of playing guild joined with 4 others for more people and the chance to raid etc back when WoW started. For half a year it was ok, but then the management, of which two were my friends from way back, started to fracture over the way the guild was run. One guy was vying for position and full control of the guild which was currently run by a committee of six.

I made a scarily true prediction that he would push out my two friends, his biggest opposers, and bring in more of his own people who would bow to his leadership.

So my two friends left the guild, I followed 60 seconds later, I knew who I’d rather spend my time with. For three days we bounced around Ironforge guild less and happy until some of our old guild mates asked if we were starting our own. We talked and decided to do it, us three friends as leaders, knowing that as friends any differences we had would be resolved like adults without political jostling.
We had 20 of our old guild mates join us and then absorbed a small guild of people who had moved with their guild to a new less crowded server, only to find it was a ghost town and come back, that got us up to raiding numbers.

Fast forward to the near past and the guild we left was effectively (since Curse left) the best on the server (speed at taking things down wise). Did we care, not really, we were about 5th but we had good guild spirit and that counted for more than anything else.

I guess my point is that, if you’re not having fun change something, it's a game it should be fun. A group of friends can build a guild better than randoms, you have respect and trust, that’s great foundations.

Don't leave, Lurid- one of your guildies (who I also know in real life) has just found me on Facebook and talked me into joining, which I shall do as soon as Patch 2.3 comes out so I can level a character quickly.

You do indeed* but you could always buy one from the UK and play it in the states.

As for being able to play you shouldn't have any real issues relating to lag, my connection isn't the best and I haven't had a problem yet. The only problem I have is that it's very quiet during the week, a few people here and there and without the social aspect the game is very very boring.

* There's actually a way to change some of the files to point it to the UK servers but this is quite tricky and against the terms of service I believe.

I'm still there and the guild is looking much healthier. Basically, after literally months of arguing and recrimination, we finally have Kara on farm. Weve downed King maulgar and the first boss in ZA. There remains a split in the guild between people who take raiding kinda seriously and have appropriate kit, and people who just want to have a laugh. And while we have got to the point of asking people to improve their gear, or at least gear and spec appropriately, the result of trying to keep everyone happy is that our progress is still far, far too slow. But you should definitely join, stoats.

Anyone still playing? Enjoying new patch content?

I'm contemplating leaving my longtime guild and moving to a T5 guild...My guild is starting to be too slow and boring for me. But I like a few of the people a lot and it's a rough decision...

I'm still there. And my guild has turned into a T5 guild, which is nice. I still complain that we don't progress quickly enough, but our progress seems to be slow and steady and rely on the fact that we have a solid reliable core of people. Its fun, although I think that lots of people feel that wow has had its day and are looking to the next big thing.

Well, I was drafted as DPS into a Kara farm guild, and just as they crossed the threshhold into T5 territory, they turned into rude minmaxing assholes. After so long in the game, I realize I prefer to play with friends than "see new content". Yeah I get bored sometimes, but I also know how to turn the machine off.

I wish I could get Urthona into a SSC/TK team, but it's so much work and so taxing on patience to find new friends in an established clique. Being a CC-less Moonkin doesn't help.

I'm not thrilled with the SSO or the Sunwell Island stuff, it's just too crowded and my machine(Mac laptop) simply can't take it. My paladin is a badged out tankadin, and I recently leveled a Horde shaman to see how the other half lives.

I'm losing the bug, and I wish it was easier to just give up on, but I've made friends in Azeroth.

Still addicted. Quite badly. Have spent almost two weeks doing nothing but Sunwell dailies. Damn, I'm looking forward to getting exalted so I can stop doing them. Just for the record, what servers are everyone on again? I joined Nordrassil yonks ago because I thought there might be a few lithers around, but I only ever occasionally see Randy. I think the new patch has given the game a shot in the arm, as aside from bloody raids, I was running out of stuff to do.

Ok Barbeloids. Don't fail me now.

I need a new machine. My laptop ain't kicking out the power I need to maintain.

I'd like this to be able to meet the RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATION for this.

All I see are a bunch of letters and numbers, when I have very simple questions. Does the Mac Mini have the processer speed and harddrive space to handle my game of choice? Does is come with a Cable Modem outlet?

Could someone translate?
* OS: Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer required

* Processor:
o 933 MHz G4,G5 or Intel processor, 1.8 GHz G5/Intel processor recommended

* Memory:
o 512 MB RAM
o 1 GB DDR RAM is recommended

* Video:
o NVIDIA or ATI graphics processor with 32 MB VRAM
o 64 MB VRAM recommended

Keith, like a scientist
23:55 / 10.04.08
That should be fine. Processor is up to snuff. OS will be higher if you buy a new Mac Mini. Video card will be acceptable.

I highly recommend maxing the RAM out to 2gb, though. It comes with 1gb, which might be fine, but maxing it to 2gb would be ideal.

It has an ethernet port which is what your cable modem will plug into.

I play on a Macbook Pro which is a few years old now. It's fine, so this should be fairly similar.

If you want actual power that is still affordable, I would personally look at a nice iMac. Big beautiful screens and a buttload of power for very little cost.

-------

As for Sunwell... yes, I've been doing way too many dailies. Raking in the cash and got exalted last night. The exalted caster dps neck is SO CHOICE.

I love the new patch... very fun stuff. It's what is giving me the itch to get more progress done. I'm so so so close to jumping to a T5 guild from my barely raiding 12/12 Kara 1 group guild (oh and Nalorakk) that has no actual hope of graduating to 25mans.

I've quit playing this game after a few years of total addiction. The main reason why I quit was the terrible Burning Crusade expansion which shows a total lack of vision by Blizzard's game devs as they actually rendered most of the game's content useless. I had a top notch character whose equipment was rendered totally useless, except for her Swift Zulian Tiger which is still one of, if not the coolest, land mount in the game. Also, as it gradually developed into a mass phenomena the game got full of "leet kiddies" for whose teen drama I really don't have time or patience. I realized the game had developed into a chore and wasn't entertaining at all, most of the guilds I belonged too were also full of power gamers that didn't really care about having fun or actually getting to know their members and would be run by small groups of players with their own agendas that took advantage of everyone else. I finally fought the addiction to the game and nowadays I see how retarded I was to waste so many time with it.

So.............................................

Anyone in beta? I've been hoping for awhile to get a key but with the release looking pretty much at November, what's the point of playing beta, I suppose.

However, I'm pretty excited. Checking wowinsider, mmo-champion, worldofraids, and elitist jerks pretty much all day during work.

What's been going in everyone's WoW? My guild made it most of the way through T5, but has stalled out in recent weeks due to the Level ?? Summer Boss. Doesn't help that my server, Dentarg, is in the bottom 15 or so population realms. Seriously contemplating a transfer.

I've been in the lands of Azeroth since leaving the lands of Barbelith. Five 70s including my moonkin main: tankadin and titan gripper on Alliance, chainhealer and afflock on Horde. I wasn't looking forward to the expansion to be honest. There was so much I was done with, but so much to enjoy yet in Outland. I'm one of those guys who plays for social reasons and I'd friends and I were helping people get stronger and see things they missed out on in the mad raid rush.

I logged in on Wednesday to see what was happening amongst the expanse of guilds I'm associated with, and everyone was tooling around getting ready for the midnight releases. My east coast friends appeared after their downloads and reported of the Northrend landscapes. I went with the flow and found myself at WalMart at the stroke of 12, Arizona time. I could've gone to Kara again.

Northrend is beautiful. It's wound so tightly by the art direction and quest design editing staff that one almost feels as if they are intruding on another MMO with their WoW characters. It's as if the artists that overwhelmed the game with the Zul'Aman raid and gear art were given free reign to give birth to an entire new world. It's brilliant and it shows. I won't go on and on about the depth and detail, but I'll mention that the foliage in Dragonblight is ridonkulous and hints of amazing things at 80.

We rode the barge to the Howling Fjords and fought giant vikings in our first 5 minutes. I'd suggest going there first Stoat. So much to see and fall for.

Well, I played my mage to 80 in LK beta and had an absolute ball. The quest mechanics in Northrend making questing so completely fun. Aside from the gorgeous new models and spells and talents and whatnot, the quest stuff just blows my mind. The level up dungeons are really short generally (45-60 mins for most). Never got to raid more than one Naxx boxx at level 80 but did a few heroics and got to experience all the zones (Storm Peaks and Icecrown = ZOMG). The quests have a lot of story and lore to them which should make everyone happy.... ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY go to Dragonblight and do all the Wintergarde Keep (if Alliance) quests for the most epic questline of all time.

Well yes, the hype for Wrathgate if deafening, but if you're not giggly over human, paladin, WC1-3 lore, or precious LOTR potshots, it's kind of cold. Still, if you take your time, it is and can be one of the major highlights of the game's story. I'm far more interested in the implication that the evil of the Lich King is neither Arthas, nor Ner'zhul, or even the fusion of them, but something far more sinister and older than, well, everything.

It's the involvement of the game's story that is win for me.

Just last night we freed a drakkari troll from some bounty hunters, and over the course of 30 quests and a dungeon run, watched as he bargained a deal with the Lich King, grew to power, overthrew an entire civiliation, and then was defeated by us in zombie costumes. It's not just FedEx and reagent runs, the quests are short stories — and worthwhile.
