iirc correctly you need to turn up with your insurance and M.O.T documents (if applicable) and the reminder letter that the DVLA send you.

Friends,

I've been doing some preliminary work with the 28 Arabic Lunar Mansions and I need to compose the sigils of the Angels associated with each one. I plan on doing this with the Magic Square of Luna. I could work out all the Arabic for the names of the angels [ and thus the gematria] and being armed with that could proceed to draw the said sigils, but I thought I might avoid this if someone knows where I might find the Arabic of the angels in question.

Anybody know off hand where I can find this information?

Thanks!

Two questions:

1) By shaving a lot, will my skin ever get tougher?
Right now I get bad razor burn that lasts far too long. I use disposible sensitive-skin razors and sensitive-skin gel and lots and lots of hot water. To alleviate the burning sensation, I have this cooling medicating balm, but it doesn't work that great....

2) Can you find the square root of pi?
I say you can because nobody actually works with the real number of pi, which is infinite. Also, any weird number's square root is also infinite. My reasoning: if you can find the square root of 777.777periodic7 (or some weird number that'll give you tons of after-decimal integers) then you can find the square root of pi.
My co-worker tells me I can't because as soon as I round off pi, it is not pi. So for him, it's a semantic thing. I leave it to you, O great philosophers of the Interweb.

RE shaving- I hate it too. Though I've never had any problems with razor burn, I've found that shaving immediately after showering is muchmuchmuch more comfortable than the alternative. The hair's softened by the water, or somesuch. Granted, at this stage of my life I only have to shave once every 3 or so days, so people with large thickets of manly chin-hair may have more salient advice.

I also have trouble shaving, since I have very thick hair combined with sensitive skin. The recommendation of shaving after a long, hot shower is very good, and works for me. I also find that if I use conditioner on my face and leave it until I get out of the shower, it really soften things up and also helps the razor move against the skin easily.

SK- what a question for tuesday morning! I'm afraid I don't know where to find this information right away, but you might find that asking some sort of academic type gets you somewhere.

Grow a beard, it's the only way. A mighty chin-stroking, food-catching, face-hiding monster of a beard.

Shaving - Matt, do you shave with or against the grain? If the latter then you are more likely to agitate your skin. Also do you use an exfoliator, such as a face scrub before you shave? It helps clean off a lot of the dead skin and generally smooth the face. I also use a lot of cold water to wash my face once I've shaved - helps close the pores.

I also have to say that I found disposable razors and gel type stuff froma can to be pretty harsh on my skin although I didn't get skin rash so much as lots of little bloodpricks. As well as all of the above plus plenty of hot water beforehand I've also enjoyed shaving a lot more since I invested in a Gilette Mach 3 (yes, wanky advert but great razor) and switched to a more natural shaving cream that you can put on with a brush - a brush helps raise the bristles and makes them easier to remove. Alternatively this stuff from Lush is also really nice and makes your skin feel great.

Mach 3s are indeed fantastic. Expensive, but worth it.

I got immunised against hepatitis and cholera last Friday for some travels later on in the year.

Why the hell does my arm still hurt, as if it's been bruised? The injection itself was painless, but I feel like I've been punched in the arm. What's going on there?

Q

I'm after images of strawberry mousse tubs from the 1970s/80s. You know the sort - individual servings in round plastic tubs with card lids. There was one in particular that used a combination of pink, red and (maybe) orange that was simultaneously horrible and lovely to look at.

Anyone know of any good, general 'packaging nostalgia' sites? I have done a *bit* of google work...

You have GERMS in your SKIN. There's one of them -- cholera? Tetanus? -- that's famous for for making a big swelling at the point of injection.

You might be better off asking that in the corresponding thread to this one in The Temple.

I mean, you can use wikipedia for names, but since Arabic and English use different alphabets, there might be rules at play with which I'm unfamiliar.

Thanks Grant,

I have tried wikipedia - only the seven Islamic archangels are there presently - and [horrors] no entry on the lunar mansions . . . so yeah, I'll try the Temple.

Absolutely. Gilette sent me one on my eighteenth birthday with a note saying, basically, "You're a man now and you need a man's razor!". Actually, at the time I could have poured milk on my face and had my cat lick the hair off, so thin and sparse was my facial hair. But I still appreciate the thought. I still have the razor too. It's blue and no beardness can stand against it.

Mmm....I don't rate Gillette Mach 3's at all. I find them too sharp and prone to slicing my face to bits. I use Wilkinson Sword Protector 3D's (which are much cheaper) with Body Shop sesame oil shave cream. Really good and not made of nasty chemicals that dry out the skin. But to answer Matt's question...don't shave before or after a shower, shave IN THE SHOWER. The steam really helps to stop any nicks from bleeding. Once you've got the hang of it you don't need a mirror!

I have lots of shaving hints but no time to type them all up right now. One of the biggest is to try and avoid those horrible lubricating strips. I find they don't let you feel what the razor is doing so I'm much more likely to slice myself. Try a good old double blade without the fancy stuff.

After suddenly deciding I was bored of having long hair, earlier this evening I boldy decided to take action. The last time I cut my own hair was when I was eight and I can still remember the look on the hairdresser's face when my Mum dragged me into his shop. Suffice to say, after much pleading on my part, I'm about to embark on a long, cold walk to a friend's house for repairs. Sheesh, when am I gonna grow up?

Having not shaved for a few weeks I may wait another 3 for full blown beard effect. I've always wondered what to do with it at that stage though (pruning wise). Normally I just shave and cut it off and start again!

There's a very good hairdresser's on Church Street that I can't recommend highly enough...

It's waaaay too late for that, but cheers, Stoatie.

(Moderators: I think I'm having "a turn" or something today. I was supposed to stick my previous post in another thread and [I don't know how] I managed to screw up and put it in this thread. Realising my error, I proceeded to ask for the post to be deleted but then noticed too late that I hadn't chosen "delete" instead of "modify". Sorry to waste your time; please ignore my request and my stupidity -- I think my brains are in my hair.)

A new question:

I have a problem: pefect 20-20 vision. In fact, the last time I had an eye exam the doctor said I had better than 20-20 vision (if such thing is possible). All good, you might say, but the problem is I look great in glasses.
I mean, really, really great.
When I've tried on other people's glasses it complete me, like there was a missing element in the way I looked that the glasses somehow filled in.
Despite my anti-handicap I really want to get glasses, so my question is: will a lenscrafter give me frames with non-perscription lenses and how much can I expect to pay for glasses that don't actually do anything?
(I only ask here because I'm too embarrased to go into an actual opticions (sp?) and ask for useless glasses to make myself look good)

In movie trailers, you often hear that something is 'The Number One Movie In America.' How exactly is this determined? Is it box office return from the previous weekend or something? I ask this because I can think of no legitimate situation in which Big Momma's House 2 could possibly deserve the title.

Phex, you could always wear shades.

Phex:

I have a pair of non-prescription (in American optometrist's jargon, plano) transition glasses, which I got mostly for looks but also because when I wear sunglasses, I tend to forget I have them on and then stumble around in dimly-lit rooms wondering why I can't see. I think the lenses cost me around $90, the frame a little more. (You can also get a cheap pair of sunglasses that you can easily take the lenses out of, and have an optometrist put your lenses in those frames.)

Didn't MC Hammer wear those glasses/industrial eye protectors purely for the look rather than because of his eyesight?

On the subject of 20/20 vision, you can have better. 20/20 vision is as good as the normal, healthy population. It means you can see at 20 feet what another 'normal' person sees at 20 feet. To be better, you could have 20/10 vision - you can see at twenty feet what a normal person can see at ten feet.

It's one of those funny phrases that's used to mean something that it doesn't, quite. Reminds me of when people use "quantum leap" in marketing... they're being more honest than the think... the smallest jump possible allowed by physics. In fact, anyone got any more? I'm sure I could really bore people in social situations if I had a long and complicated list of them.
