Alternatively, if you are using t3h Windows, alt+prtscr will copy the whole screen image, which can then pasted into any image editor from Paint upwards.

If you're using OSX you should find an image capture program in the Utilities folder of your applications in Finder.

If you are using t3h Linux you will already have worked out how to do it, because you are l33t.

Is there a mathematical formula for working out how much space one needs in order to make something which folds out fit inside something else?

Say, f'rinstance I wanted to make a 3D metal egg which opened up and had a 3D fold-out metal chicken inside it, (which I don't actually, but for the purposes of this problem lets suppose I do) how big or small in relation to the egg would the chicken have to be?

I realise this is a ridiculous question and probably impossible to answer. I just don't know how to begin working it all out.

Oh wow. Awesome. There's totally formulae for working out the volumes of Things, but they're different for different Shapes ofThings. An egg is an oblate spheroid, so I'll look into finding out how you get the volume of one of those.

Anyway, I came back with a Really Important Question: Where is St. Trinian's? I mean, is it in a named county? Coz Livejournal have a Schools thing now, I don't know why, it's a bit messed up really when you think about it, but if there is a Schools listing on Lj then I have to tell everyone I went to St. Trinian's IT MATTERS.

Wait. Oh noes i am teh stupid! An egg is NOT an oblate spheroid after all. An oblate spheroid is like a ball that's been stood on, whereas an egg is more like a shpere that's been stretched. So it's closer to a prolate spheroid.

There is a formula for sorting out the volume of an egg-shape but it's a bit mental. You're probably best off using the volume of a prolate spheroid. Here's the relevant Wikipedia page.

Toksik: I got an OEM Logitech LX701 (? The 7-series one, anyway) off eBay for about fifty bucks Aussie. It's a damn fine keyboard, and cheaper than the MS ones, IIRC.

Yup, I got an ex-display MS keyboard and mouse and it has nice touches but the curvy keyboard is awful for typinf and has a range of about 1m. No use at all for controlling DVDs from the couch. Be warned that wireless keyboards are often awful for gaming.

A printing problem:

Why is it that when I try to print preview a Word document with a colour background the background doesn't show up, and does this mean that the colour background won't print? I'm running really really low on printer ink and can't afford to check.

I'm fairly sure the following is true, but can't remember which poem it is or what source I got it from. If anyone has any information, that'd be grand, as it's a really good example and completely useless to me without a source.

There's a Theocritus poem where the text is corrupt or where there is a lacuna: Housman suggested the emendation drus (oak tree), and this emendation has generally been accepted. Later, a papyrus was found with a different noun in the place where Housman had suggested drus - but by then people were so attached to the oak tree that several scholars insisted that the papyrus must be wrong, because the noun it used didn't fit the poem nearly as well as Housman's.
