Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Hence his oddly reasonable and logical response to Quintum's talk of a replacement Superman Family. Clark Kent is meek, but Superman comes off as mild-mannered in the best of senses.

Well, yes, but that's the point.
I asked 'cause I'didn't remember if it happened just once, or, as it seems to be, a lot.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
18:40 / 14.12.05
Yeah, he got powers with disturbing regularity. The Elastic Lad powers were the ones that got him into the Legion.

Infinite Crisis #2 Sells Over 200K - All Star Superman #1 Doesn't

[stayed at 170,802 - not counting reorders, I guess]

This Sunday
15:13 / 19.12.05
Yeah, but InfiniCrisis is a 'gotta have it to understand the new fundament and fragmentation of the DCU' whereas ASSupes is just good. More than, maybe, but even so, quality is never a sign of sales to come.
Unlike the new Crisis, though, the Superbook will make masses of cash as a TPB. For years. Maybe.

Crisis #2 Sells Over 200K - All Star Superman #1 Doesn't
I love how in that site it says "All Star Superman #1 Doesn't" as a subtitle, like it was saying "in your face, GM fans!"

The fact that ASS make close to the numbers without resorting to collect-the-set autistyness shud be a plus point, surely?

Holy shit. Superman's hands are so veiny.

that's Comics Journalism for ya, as written by people who put a Sports spin to it.

or something like that.

Well, people were burned by All-Star Batman, so they probably got scared for Superman.

Weeell, it's not really a surprise to me. I'm pretty sure ASBARTBW #2 sold better too. I think Batman's some way more popular than Superman and has been since...

The 70's? (Except when the latter died) The 60's?

Certainly in all the time I've taken note of comic sales, lord save me. Millar said this'd happen, for that reason, and notwithstanding any jealousy you might care to impute I thought at the time it was a perfectly reasonable prediction. Still sold 30k more than the first NXM, which is pretty reasonable.

On another tack, the Double Articulation weblog has a really interesting, if slightly overcooked, take on myths, Ray Bradbury and - of course - ASS.

The cover for 3 is out? I thought only the cover for 2 was out (SuperLois)...

SuperLois = 3

Superwank with Lois + raygun = 2

Yeah, I keep noticing that in FQ's Superman depictions...I guess they are just bursting with MUSCLES.

oh, but wait, won't books be delayed 1 day in the US because of the MLK national holiday??

That means everybody else gets delayed too no?

:-(

No, books are still out Wednesday.

Mr Tricks
17:07 / 17.01.06
Books are only delayed when UPS takes the day off for holiday. This is the same as my work-place, as $$$ is made via shipping "we" work if UPS works... Thus, if I have to work on a monday while others have the day off (like I did yesterday) then at least I can count on comics on Wednesday. If I have a Monday off due to holidays then I'll be getting my comics on Thursday... It's always 2 days into the work week for me.

Not that any of you asked; but I thought I'd share...

I believe US comics may be delayed for MLK day. However, I am not sure.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Guess we'll just have to see what's what with Schrodinger's Comic Books, on Wednesday. I might just skip it and go on Thursday anyway.

DC 1,000,000 CROSSOVER IN THE FORTRESS, BABY!!

Yes, an all too fleeting glimpse at Kal Kent, Superman of the 853rd Century. Honestly, there's so much insane, old school shit in this issue I don't even know where to start. And there's a panel of Superman in profile towards the end of the book that is just, I'd have to say, one of the finest single panels like ever. You'll know it when you see it.

This is definitely the definitive Pop Superman Comic Book. That's the only accurate description. More when it is further diseminated.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Only a couple pages in, but I love that Lois is concerned this is all one more humiliating joke, like those Silver Age ones he used to play on her to distract her from the truth.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Plus Bluebeard's Wife! I need to break out the Margart Atwood.

Can't wait!! Thanks for the info. on #2.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
20:27 / 18.01.06
SPOILERS:

The title is "Superman's Forbidden Room," but I would have gone with either "Big Blue's Forbidden Room" (to pull in the Bluebeard vibe) or "The Madness of Queen Lois." Years of Silver Age psychological abuse by the Man of Steel upon Lois has finally unhinged her, driven her mad, and now she fears she's locked away in an Artic Fortress with a madman! It's a bit like The Shining, when you think about it.

As far as the Bluebeard vibe is concerned, here's the wikipedia entry. It should be noted that both Angela Carter and Margaret Atwood have done retakes on the Bluebead story (The Bloody Chamber and Bluebeard's Egg - both were the titular story for their respective short story collections), but I believe Morrison's take on it intrigues me because really it's just Superman preparing Lois's birthday present.

"...it may look like a modern art gallery, but it's actually the armoury."

Nice reference to the World's Finest team-ups, and a counterpoint to the hardboiled Clark/Bruce relationship currently on show in Ass-Bats. The Lois-having-a-shower page -- two panels of it -- were maybe gratuitous, but I was too distracted by how pretty Quitely's water is. And I kind of hope it was meant as a bitchy jab at Miller & Lee, especially given the context (her working on an article, or a journal, of her madness). Lois having doubts versus "I have a date with Bruce Wayne" being wanked over an infinite number of times.

I notice Superman apparently saved the Columbia shuttle in his universe.
