Finally read this. Love the cracked mirror on page 1. Alix's self-image destroyed as she stands there inventing a new one. "Now what?"

Picked up on a couple of cues that suggest the bigger picture..."I had this horrible dream you were dead." and "There must be a reason for all this, right?" Just kindling my hope that we'll see Sky High Helligan next issue.

Also like how Mrs. Harrower has an opposite trait from the Sheeda...the Sheeda spiders are robots when they look real...Alix is real when she looks like a robot.

The child..."Help." It would have to be a child, now wouldn't it? Alix is probably a little turned off by the adult world, and even kept working with children even after the accident. I wonder if her husband's betrayal will affect her ability to trust adults/men? And will that come into play during the SS team dynamic, if there ever is one?

Finally..."bang." She accepted it. She's changed. She's embraced her new sexuality. "Bang" (a synonym for "fuck" or "screw" or "have monkey-like intercourse with")

two theories on why Lance died, based only on #1:

1- "It (Smartskin) only spreads effectively when it bonds with collagen and copies tissue growth" - maybe HE was the one under the knife, injections, whatever [he was clearly into it while she wasn't] and maybe the Smartskin reacted with the... extra collagen in his body, making him heavier.

[the doctors were probably trying to make him breath better with the intravenous medicine, but the ring finger goof is yet to be solved]

2- similar to the Hulk / She-Hulk blood transfusion [in which Bruce Banner' cousin is not as unstoppable as he is], the Smartskin contagion from him to her was of not enough material to kill our heroine.

Why would Lance have extra collagen in his body?

Or maybe the skin is smart.

And liked Alix better.

Re: "Bang."

Isn't there an issue of the Invisibles that ends similarly, with King Mob saying the same?
Also reminds me of the scene in St. Swithin's day, though i'm not sure if these connections are meaningful/relevant...

I think it's just the George Morrison 'bullet in the right place will change the world' meme. The same action was indeed carried out by King Mob and Neurotic Outsider Boy.

Lance dying could of course be something as simple as chance. Or fate. They both had the "accident"- the doctors saved one, but not the other. Happens all the time.

Why would Lance have extra collagen in his body?

to delay ageing, something he was too much worried about.

but maybe we're stretching it too far and his body simply didn't react well with the Smartskin while hers did.

A) There's absolutely nothing to suggest either party has injected extra collagen into themselves, for any reason.

B) Even if either one had, the amounts used to fill out wrinkles (assuming they hadn't used botox instead) would be miniscule compared to the total amount of collagen that exists naturally in skin, muscles, tendons and bone.

For a brief moment, SilverBullet Comics allowed us to check DC's solicitations for February. Anyhoo, the relevant part is...

SEVEN SOLDIERS: BULLETEER #3
Working as a bodyguard at a super-hero convention, Alix Harrower — the Bulleteer — finds herself enmeshed in the bizarre relationship between Li'l Hollywood, a faded super-impressionist, and her sidekick. As one tragedy unfolds, a second threatens when Alix finds herself in the sights of the mysterious, undead super-archer — Spyder — assassin for hire!

Why does lance die and alix live? Meta-genes and all that. Haven't you ever read a superhero comic b4?

I think, in terms of the DCU, that's explanation that makes the most sense in that there is an established precedent (getting hung up on collagen is pretty bizarre, if you ask me). What does slightly bother me (very, very slightly) is that this could be seen as another example of Morrison's slapdash approach to storytelling (were it another writer I wouldn't even bring it up).

I just wonder (and let's face it, after 'Wifegate' we know that he reads this forum,) if Grant Mitchell doesn't deliberately put these inconsistencies into his work simply for the pleasure of watching us guys worry about them.

After all, it's not the first time, is it?

Well anyway, I'd just like to make it clear that I understand you, George, and that I'm not like the others.

That's a cute way of putting it.

It's a great cover. She's Queen Penis, Biggest of the Dicks, Phalluses Are A Girl's Best Friend.

I enjoy the idea that by becoming one she's now immune to them.

Marilyn Monroe Inverted, dahling.

It is a beautiful, weird cover. This Bulleteer would fit right in with the Legion of Legions.

I love the line "Do you have any idea what it's like to have to explain to people that you're not a robot?"

Also the bit about the groups of people who are superhero wannabes and get bitten by radioactive insects, drink mysterious potions etc. to try to get powers. Fun!

In the miniseries finale, the Bulleteer finally faces her husband’s mysterious online lover in an unforgettable battle to the death! Sally Sonic is an embittered British super-teen from the 1940s with the mind of a miserable 75-year-old woman trapped in an immortal 16-year-old body. (Zatanna issue 1!) Can Bulleteer survive her first slugfest, or could this be the tragic end of her career as a super-hero before it even begins?

On sale March 15

OK, so now we know she was not Lil Hollywood.

Despite that she is supposed to be somewhat dead, the whole "Superhero convention" thing in the solicitations for issue 3 almost convinces me that Gimix the Gimmicks Girl is Lil Hollywood.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
02:17 / 14.12.05
Well, superhero convention is that you don't stay dead, so...I think we have a contender.

Makes me feel sad for those in the #0 crew that actually stayed dead...isn't Vigilante back later on in one of these minis?

Aertho
02:29 / 14.12.05
Two weeks til we see Vigilante again. On sale December 21. ...Yeah right.

Alix seems to be pulling everything together. She'll meet Vigilante from Zero and Agent Helligan from SK in 2. She'll meet Lil Hollywood from TMG in 3, and Sally Sonic from Zatanna in 4. Who might she meet from Klarion, MM, or Frankenstein?

Li'l Hollywood might not be Gimmix the Gimicky Gal? Now I'm filled with doubt and tormented! Actually, for those paying better attention than me, who of the kids have been accounted for in the modern day?
And is it me, or is that "Even machines love her" bit from Guardian leading people towards the poor kid(s) and their tragedy being the Seven Baldies and the Dark Sheeda Queen impetus? Machines love their queen, too, they do. And I could do with a bit of shoving the Time Tailor into a box for a bit of violence on his person.

I think that The Bulleteer is by far and away the most hottest of the 7 soldiers so far, apart from possibly Zatanna (who, lovely lady though she is, I could never marry... It's just... well I just don't think I could,) and Frankenstein.

How does everyone else feel?

I'm seeing all seven (and associated sidekicks, foils, and supporting character) writhing naked on soft sheets. Yes. Morrison's really sort of calculatedly hit a wide array of kinks and fetishy goodness with these, hasn't he? Fishnets and magick, goth puritan prettyboy, F2M warrior angst, big dude in a shiny uniform, er, another big dude in shiny uniform but this time he's got stitched together and ready to fuck everybody up, porn-gloss superheroine with sexily invulnerable skin... am I the only one thinking of the whole Seven Soldiers thing in terms of those supersex bits from 'Flex Mentallo', then? Good for marketing. Good for commentary. Good for Good.
But, then, that's kinda been one of Morrison's more recognizable tics, yes? Sexing up the joint, with every book he's on?

Klarion's a twink. No time for that. Ystin's hot either way. Zee most def, Alix nope. I think Shilo might be fun once nekkid, but Jake'd be boring and regretful. Not big on necrophilia. That's still illegal, right?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Shilo'd be into bondage games, but he'd want to be the dom.

Interesting that Sally Sonic was Lance's internet date - his reaction to her immortality and hers are starkly contrasted. He wasn't thinking the consequences through.
