Other things I've noticed in that Newsarama piece

First glimpse of Supernova, who reminds me a bit of Quasar (fitting, really). Not enough to guess his ID though.

And Black Adam is wearing a black verion of Captain Marvel's cape, which is new for him.

Word on the street is that SuperNova is SuperBoy Prime. Ugh.

Personally, I think Supernova is secretly me.

Curiouser and curiouser.

In the new Supergirl & The Legion Of Superheroes, the mysteries surrounding Supergirl's entry into the future are still nowhere near being solved (but hot damn is it hilarious to watch).

Enter the Dominators:

DOMINATOR: Existence is a loop. Time is a circle. And hate is eternal. Remember the fiffffdeee-tu.

(Say the last word out loud. So dark the con of man and blah, blah, blah.)

I kind of don't want the phrase "52" to become an event the DCU characters refer to as such (like Marvel characters talking about 'remember what happened in The House of M') but I haven't read this week's new books yet so I gotta see how it is. Maybe the 52 has a double meaning; 'weeks' to us real-world readers and something else to DCU characters...? (but hopefully not lame like Marvel's "The 198")

it CAN be a masked Superboy, but would DC bother taking the risk, after the recent lawsuit developments favouring Siegel's family?

I like angry Clark in the backround of the Booster Nascar pic.

And is that Lex Blue and Lex Red? Does one of them have power over magnetic fields?

In the Justice League Unlimited animated series they have an episode where supergirl goes to the future with Green Lantern and someone else, and decides to stay there because she has the hots for Brainiac. I didn't realize she was in the future in the comic book OYL as well.

From Newsarama and Wizard:

Lex Luthor's Justice League. Team members include
Reaver, Lumina, Trajectory, Herakles, Omnivore, and Ultimate Man.

There is also a page with pics from Morrisons Chinese Super team. The team includes Celestial Archer, Perfect Physician, Immortal Man, Red Guardsman, and Mother Of Champions

Wow. I thought this was going to be much less eventful and much shittier looking.

SPYOILERS.

So Booster thought the trinity would be there to usher in a new golden age of awesomeness? Fucking sweet.

SWEET.

(And you know Grant rocked the title for this ish)

Y'know, I didn't like it too much. It made me very apprehensive that, to get any enjoyment out of 52, you have to be ready to wallow in the specific differences in the new continuity. I'm fine with that sort of thing being something in the background, or even part of the fun. But for me at least, it doesn't really work as a main attraction.

(this has been my problem with a lot of Infinite Crisis and the related materials; it's all just too joltingly self-aware with the "hey, we're adjusting the continuity! Can you see us? Watch as we shift the continuity around!)

The Question page would've been a big, big thrill, though, if I hadn't already seen the preview.

You know, I was reading a review 8C #7 over at AICN (no idea why), when it occurred to me that it would have been much more interesting if Supes, Bats, and Wonders actually went away for an entire year...as in, we the readers, didn't actually see them again until 2007. They could have made a giant event of their return, and in the meantime, used the year to introduce tons of these new concepts.

I guess they would be afraid that it would cut into their share to not have the big 3 putting out monthly books for a year, but it would have given the readers a better sense of what 52 actually meant to the DC universe, if we got to experience along with them. the big 3 coming back would have been huge and exciting that way, I think.

If Montoya and Question = the Batman corner, and Booster and Steel represent for Superman, then Black Adam and Elongated Man are for Wonder Woman?

I ask after reading the Ambassador Hotel scene wherein Ralph gets a call from Elysium.

Is that how we're to read that?

I don't know, I think thats a bit of a stretch.

I hope that's not the case, honestly. In Ralph's case especially, I can't see at all how he could fill any kind of Wonder Womanian role.

I'm really looking forward to The Question working with Renee, especially if he'll be using similarly half-assed and boneheaded techniques. I quite enjoyed the fact that he shanghaied the Batsignal just to get her attention. While not as completely subtle as something like Seven Soldiers, I think it's painting a nice picture of what it's like to try and fill the shoes of bigger heroes.

Actually, now that I think about it, you're on the right track, Cass. I was just looking at it the wrong way. I'm looking forward to seeing a Themyscria without Amazonian perfection but rather messy human zealotry. Two cut-em-ups trying to do the work of the World's Greatest detective. Etcetera.

This is going to be a lot of fun.

Elongated Man isn't going to be wearing a bathing suit to any fights, I'm guessing.

I just think that his struggles will mirror Wonder Woman's, as Adam's motivations will mirror Princess Diana's. Former : latter pattern holds for Booster : Steel, and Renee : Question.

Diana's seen a LOT of tragedy, and she'd chosen to reflect that brutality in how she confronted adversaries. "You're a warrior!" blah blah blah. Infinite Crisis should have been about her realizing she must be a "superheroine" instead. Which it kinda was, but failed at when Bruce pulled the gun.

HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE

Batman pulled a gun? Was there a DAMN good reason for it, and was he destroyed by it (like in Batman Beyond)?

Was 8C good for anything, or did it just happen so the editors could "fuck shit up"?

Anyway, Haven't picked up my 52 week 1 yet, will like get week 1 and 2 together, but from what I am reading here it sounds fairly cool.

He was sorely tempted to cap Alex Luthor, especially after perm-boy zapped Nightwing, but WW talked him down.

I still don't get why Bats would even bother with a gun if he wanted to kill someone. Dude's got about twenty potentially lethal weapons in his utility belt and an encyclopedic knowledge of "I poke you, you die" ninja moves.

I guess Johns just really likes the image, though, since he had it happen in that Teen Titans dystopian future arc as well.

I just read 52 and liked it waaay more than INFINITE CRISIS or anything DC has been putting out recently. It felt epic, Silver Age-y with heroes standing around on street corners in their costumes, and best of all it felt smart (I love Booster Gold's Nascar uniform).

The weakest element was the Dibny angle, but that may be because it's been previewed quite a bit. I don't care a toss for continuity or legacies or anything but this was a lot of fun and a good read. It reminded me of Crisis on Infinite Earth in a good way - a genuine sense of danger and loss, a nice immersion in the DC universe, and space for individuals to be heroic.

I wasn't looking forward to this at all, but it was great. And it looks like there's a new Marvel family on the way. Yay!

The scene where Booster gathers all the heroes for Supes/Bats/WW's big announcement was fun. Is that Director Bones standing next to Klarion teh Witchboy? What the hell would those two guys have to talk about?

In the fragments on the first page a couple of them feature a pale looking character dressed in a featureless skin tight black garment appearing to pray before a statue of someone wearing an upside down superman logo. Does anyone have any idea who either of these might be or what it might represent? All of the other fragments are fairly simple pictures of characters, but this one seems weird and myterious.

Preview images of later covers show that some sort of Church of the Reverse Superman crops up or something. My guess is it's a plotpoint-to-be.

Shiny: Well Over Thirty

Hmmm, yeah i've found some cover images for August with it on now. If it is the case that it hasn't been seen before and is a foreshadowing, as it would seem to be, one would assume that the plotline is going to be of overwhelming importance later on in the series, given it would seem to be the only thing on that first page that isn't a flashback.
