Hello everyone
I've been lurking here for awhile, I just finally got an invitation to Barbelith yesterday night.

I'm 22. I graduated from graphic design at Dawson College in Montreal. I did a lot of poster design, packaging, corporate identity, publication design... mostly print based.

Then I moved to Toronto to pursue furthur study in New Media at Ryerson, where I get to apply my design skills towards digital mediums (web, video, interactive installations using max/msp, etc). I work part time as a web developer for a record label and I do a bit of freelance design work (posters, album art, etc)for bands.

here's my portfolio

Should I add mine here? May as well I guess...

got the invitation yesterday, haven't had the leisure to set up until now. Even so I'll have to run off and go to bed soon.

Introduction, then? OK. I'm currently 21, studying physics in Exeter, and the housemate of Tom (whatever his name here currently is) who is doing the same and sent in the application/reference for me. You may want to look at my LiveJournal, I even post in it occasionally. I have a tendency to lurk... we'll see if Barbelith can break that habit.

The name is due to the fact that, er, I lack the imagination to come up with a pseudonym, or perhaps lack the flexibility to accept one and identify with it. Hence, so far, I've been going by my real name most places on the 'net.

Hey all

I found myself yesterday with an invitaion email sitting in my inbox so I guess an introduction is probably better than hanging around not saying alot. So then, tacked on the end of a very long thread, a little about me:

I'm 20, live in Bedford and work as a Programmer. My spare time is spent mainly on important tasks such as lounging, stuffing my face and spending profusely long periods of time on the internet. If you really want, you can read my blog here not thats it has been updated, like, ever.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you on the forums.

Yeah, why are you bumping all these Introduction threads, Quantum? Can't we just let one rise to top to become the default venue?
This gives completely the wrong impression.

I hate introducing myself, but here goes: I'm 30, I teach English and Media Studies to secondary students, I'm from Australia (Melbourne to be specific) and I'm a major film geek. Barbelith looks pretty good to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of the community.

The introductions in this thread are near-uniformly intriguing and thrilling - I hope the posters are still around Barbelith for me to talk at.

But first, my own introduction. I earn my crust by removing gold farmers from an online game. Before that I spent four years studying Sanskrit, which if nothing else will mean a few Temple posts about the bits of tantric buddhism that I want to steal.

Obsessions of the moment are synthpop, coal fires in China, the history of Arkhangelsk, and 19th century fantasies of the mechanical mind. If you're unlucky, I may end up ranting about some of them before I move on to the next shiny thing.

Finally, being a cynical policy wonk by inclination and background, I'll be studiously avoiding the Switchboard. Enough of carefully argued, right but repulsive practical politics; now it's time to join the travelling circus and dance in through the back door. Head Shop, here I come...

Hey, I had a (semi)brilliant idea just this second! Well, I’ll let everyone else judge the so-called brilliance level of this idea. Anyway! With the influx of new members in recent months, I figure a lot of the newer posters don’t know everyone who’s been here forever. Does anyone think that maybe we should start a companion thread to this one where older posters let the newer posters know who they are?

nice idea.

better still, why not have each of the regulars pick a *different* barbelithian, and tell us something about them. What somebody's friends write about them tends to be more interesting (and generally more complimentary) than what they write about themselves.

Good idea. Can I request Nina to describe me?

That's a great idea. Anyone can describe me, except Flux, towards whom I bear no ill will, but towards whom I seem to have directed an uncharacteristic amount of vitriol recently. (I hate it when I do that).

I'm not going to lie. I'd like to know more about Haus. Ze is sometimes a riddle wrapped up in an enigma wrapped up in a -this is a bad cliche. I'll stop.

So, Haus about you tell about yourself?

I believe there is a "Haus of questions" interview style thread somewhere close.

Its scent is on the wind.

Wotcha. I'm a disgruntled computer games journalist, looking to recapture the excitement of words. Except I'm easily given to laziness and over-indulgence.
Help me become a better, happier man of games.

Nice to meet you all!

Hello! I just finally registered to the boards after getting approved about 6 weeks ago.... I use Gmail all the time, and forgot to check the IP email with which I was required to register. Ack!

Anyway, I'm a sort of hybrid, as described in the Barbelith FAQ: I'm a Thelemite JeWiccan Freemason trying to get my writing career restarted. I wrote the booklet which accompanied the 2nd Edition of the H.P. Lovecraft Tarot, and now have a proposal in with Weiser Books (with a little help from a friend...).

I recently moved from New York to St. Louis, and have way too much time on my hands while I try to build new Circles (figuratively, and metaphysically).

"Barbelith" initially attracted me because I'm an "Invisibles" freak, but then - looking at the boards - I knew this was a place I had to try & participate in.

Greetings to the wide barbelith world. Not sure if any of you loosers will remember me it been aaaages since I was out to play and that was only briefly. It's great to see so many familiar names. Ooo I'm getting all tingley with anticipation of sarcasm and contention; life has been far too cudley latley.

Just had three baby boys, I shit you not, and thought 'where can I go, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came, and they understand that feeding the chaos monkey can have really unexpected results!!!' This place may save me from eating my young. And if not i may be able to use my membership as mitigation (those dirty anrcho-satanists made me do it...)

I've just finished my heart rending plea to be readmitted and then thought 'I'll just try my old pass word, they might not have binned the lazy posters' and tadaa, as if by magic...

So then, who wants a fight? Sorry, is that still aloud?

P.s. Not sure what I've posted where. Hope the dark lord doesn't zap me for mis placing my blah, I'm just so happy to be here (only semi-sarcastic there, Like REALLY cudley!)

Sup, all. Just registered, thought I'd bust my Barbelith cherry the obvious way, etc etc etc.

I'm 23, American, and wear size 12.5 or 13 shoes, depending on the brand. I live in, and love, the american South, not because it is perfect, but because it is such a terrible mess. I work in a laboratory studying coral cores and stalagmites to reconstruct past climates, but don't really care much about it. I am an amateur photographer (not very good), poet (a little better), and physicist (also not very good). My irises are blue on the outside, and yellow aound the pupil. I eventually intend to get a PhD in biomedical engineering, and also maybe a dog. Or cat. Or both. I haven't decided.

you wanna get a dog or cat in biomedical engineering - heck, why not get a cog or a dat, a mix of both; i'm sure up-beat biomed engineering would accomplish that!!

welcome aboard! have you posted in creation on the daily poetry thread yet? c'mon, don' be shy...

OMG WTF BBQ ROFLCOPTER Barbelith!!1!eleventyone! Hi!

I'm an aspiring geophysicist just finishing my first year of grad school; I like earthquakes and mud and feminism and pie. I'll turn 25 next week. The other night, to prove that I still had my youthful vigor (and to impress a girl) I fought off a raccoon with a pink lawn flamingo. Or maybe not "fought off" so much as "gestured at", but the critter did have a threatening-looking stick in its mouth. Which says something about my life, but I'm not sure what.

I have a blog, and also a roommate, who convinced me to join up.
