Things I don't like are: moths (there is a big one right now), having to work in the night (hmm, that is happening right now too) and people who talk about mortgages and pensions all the time

You actually are me, aren't you?

maybe I have come to usurp you from your own life *evil cackle*

Probably not though -- although if you find me going through your bins looking for receipts and card numbers, you'll realise this was all an elaborate double bluff and I'd set some kind of moth honey-trap for you.

Actually, a moth honey-trap might be just the thing to deal with my own pet beast moth...

Yuk, this place has spotlights and we keep getting huge moths and it's like they're blocking out the sun. Nasty stuff.

I tempted mine with marmalade (am divest of honey). Didn't work.
There's a special torch you can get for reading on planes that fits in your ear (true). Imagine if you wearing that. Now that would be moth hell.

Et tu Nina?
Oh god *totally despairs*.

Nina... although it appears we agree on the moth issue, I do feel I should point out that it's, like, the middle of the night, so the thing that's blocking out the sun is probably the earth.

*shoulders with Shoulder Bug*

The rest of you, you’re all crazy. Moths are miles prettier than, say, butterflies and they come out at night, and that’s nice when you’re sitting outside of a summer evening. That whole lampshade thing that they do does kinda count against them, I agree. But they’re soooo pretty! They have those cute feathery antennae things, whatever they're called.

I now want to start a thread called
"The Moth Issue-Clearly luvly or butterfly vampires".
And thanks Bedhead, the rest of you incontestably bonkers.

Are Being Stolen By Bandits
09:47 / 08.09.05
Hello, Barbelith.

I've been lurking around the site for about a year and a half, and eventually decided that, rather than an informed and impartial observer, it was making me feel a little like a seedy old man hiding in the bushes outside a particularly strict Catholic girls' school. Or something.

Anyway, I'm here now. I've made a few posts (nothing too interesting as of yet - that may, or may not be subject to change as my time here goes on), and figured it was probably time to introduce myself.

I'm a 24-year old graduate in English Lit., originally from the North-East of England, and now living in Oslo, Norway with my rather lovely Norwegistani girlfriend. So, naturally, I'm unemployed, and have been reduced to earning what little money I can by doing domestic chores for my girlfriend's mother on a bi-weekly basis. So, like all the very best English graduates, I've secured a prestigious job as a cleaner. Truly, an education is a wonderful thing. Ideally, I'll be working for a couple of years then returning to adademia to study for a PhD, with an eye to settling down with a nice comfortable lecturing position at some backwater University, but that rather depends on clearing at least some of my debts first. So it may take some time.

After several days spent trying to think of an interesting/appropriate Barbelith username, I gave up and simply selected a line at random from the song I happened to be listening to at the time (Bob Dylan's 'Farewell Angelina', as it happens). It says nothing more profound about me than that I'm something of a Dylan fan (well, quite a lot of a Dylan fan, actually, so it's probably as appropriate as anything else. I wrote my dissertation on him, after all). I keep a sporadically-updated and not-particularly-interesting blog (here), for those who are peculiarly desparate to know more.

So...any questions? What do I have to do to get a drink around here?

Moths helped me get off the smack, so I won't hear a bad word said against them.

salutations all!

as is customary, a little about myself (from the dustjacket of my latest tome):

"Adamski von Bam-Bam was born in Berlin in 1940 and comes from an ancient aristocratic family. He went to school in Germany, and studied psychology and philosophy at university. He also studied astrology and was made a fellow of the RAS in 1969. Later, he went to Australia and served in the Australian Armed Forces. He is married to an ex-opera singer and is now consultant for the Institute of Sonic Levitation, Philadelphia, and is in charge of their Central European office. At present, he lives in a Gothic castle in Germany with his many cats."

i come bearing gifts in the form of an electronic finger directing your attention to these digital diversions that some of you may not have stumbled across and i just did today:

first: escape the crimson room

then: the viridian room

you must click things with the mouse. sometimes more than once...

Just received my invite so here goes…

Hello, I’m Ed and I’m 25 from Sunny Tunbridge Wells in Kent. (Please, no disgusted jokes.) I’m an Editor for a children’s publishing company and, consequently, am a bit of a big kid.

angus

Hi I'm angus, officially newest member - so much for anonymous lurking - and to be honest, I'm not sure how I got here. Somehow somewhere I read that Tom Coates was taking applicants for new members and I guess I was in the mood to apply for something, so I must have, and then an email was lost for awhile, but then found and... here I am. oy.

I'm a freelance commercial and magazine writer and former land surveyor now living in Paonia, Colorado - aka hippie paradise. I often need a place to bounce ideas and get leads on factoids; I hope Barbelith will be that place. I also have an interest in much of the subject matter I saw in a quick survey of the site and hope to make useful contributions.

I'll answer questions, if there are any.

cheers,
angus

I knew a dog called Angus once. Lurcher. Big soppy fucker. But he never learnt to type, so I guess you aren't him.

Everyone had a dog named Angus, or a cow, or ate at a restaurant....

I didn't have the dog. I knew him, but not carnally. And if you're not him, guess I never will...

Welcome anyway, even if you aren't really canine enough for my tastes.

Trijhaos
22:30 / 27.09.05
Hi, my name is Trijhaos and I'm an addi.....aw crap! This isn't the Nymphos Anonymous meeting, is it?

Anyway, I used to post until I realized I spent way too much time on the computer, so I ventured outside, attempted to find something else to do with my time, abandoned school, joined the army (got discharged), and now I'm right back where I started. I figured that I'd use this thread to pop in and say hi since I highly doubt anybody remembers me.

Now here's another neophyte to this board. I'm dead megatron, a 29-year translator-reporter-writer-molecular biologist from São Paulo, Brazil. As you can tell by my user name that I'm into 1980s' cartoons, but I also have interest in chaos magick, comic books of all types, fringe science and science fiction, and philosophy. Just loosing my post virginity. See you all around...

Hey everyone - I'm brand new here, obviously, so don't start hazing me yet. Based on the, uh, short time I've spent on the boards so far, it's great to be here!

"Blue Dream Butcher" is an obscure Salad Fingers reference, in case you were interested.
